  • I wonder how many pieces one of those modern Dodge Challengers or Chargers and Ford Mustangs would be in if they did a remake of this car chase with the 2012 models. Plastic everywhere and probably cracked aluminum blocks.

  • How is this the best chase scene in movie *seat belt clicks* *V8 ROAR* HOLY SHIT!

  • Is that Vin Diesel's black charger :)

What he would say: "HOME SWEAT HOME!!!!"

  • location location location

  • The Bullitt car chase and The Jimi Hendrix Experience were two of the greatest sounds of 1968!!!! Love it!!!!

  • now if that Charger was orange, had a rebel flag on the roof and big 01's on the doors it would be the best car chase

  • The driver of the Charger looks like Bosley (with glasses) from the 70s tv show "Charlie's Angels".

  • Today it would be a "smartcar " & a "Prius"

  • wtf happened at 3:32??

    does the charger hittedcthe camera

  • They is 17 mo"fos needin an ass kickin

  • ugh muscles cars dont handle bad. its the driver that controls that. and you gotta give the cars credit. in that time those cars werte used for a real porpose. the dodge charger was a 5-6 passenger FAMILY SEDAN okay wtf

  • @johnrummyhart

Sorry, but even the contemporary roadtests back in the 60's DID in fact complain that handling wasn't those cars strength. As a matter of fact the number of lethal car accidents was at an all time peak in 1969, and for this reason the insurance companies raised the premiums. Several reports (which were hushed down by the Detroit makers) showed that more people died in car accidents than soldiers in Vietnam.

They do and did handle bad. That is a well known fact. Eat it.

  • @McLarenMercedes i didnt ask for a silly argument and to be told to eat it. so why dont you be a lil more muture and state your facts in a way that doesnt make you sound like a lil kid looking for a fight

  • oooh shit =D

  • You would think the guy would have had the shotgun loaded from the get go.

  • The reason the mustangs faster it's called power to weight ratio which the charger has always been really heavy... I love chargers but I love mustangs more lol

  • I remember going to see this in the theater. I don't think anyone has topped this chase scene -- they kept it realistic as possible but still heart pounding -- maybe the only thing better is McQueen on his motorcycle in the Great Escape. Had a picture of that on my wall for years.

  • This movie and Dirty Mary Crazy Larry are why I love Chargers (except the Cordoba-based models of the mid and late '70s and the Dodge Omni-based ones of the mid '80s). I personally drive a 2010 Charger SE with the 250-hp V6. Its not a classic Charger but it still has some good moves. And it has the right name. I'm planning to move up to an R/T when the lease on this one expires.

  • @paktype Put a 426 Hemi or a 440 :)

  • The winner and still champion of all chase scenes.

  • I started to love the DodgeCharger when I saw the Fast and Furious series honestly. I wanna go back to 1960's or 70s so I could see all kinds of old cars that only appears in the old movie.

  • charger woulda ate that mustangs ass!

  • Nigga gonna need a new seta tie rod ends :-\

  • Lol at the little green bug.

  • do the cops nit exist in san fransisco

  • The guy with white hair sitting next to the driver of the Charger looks like the late president Gerald Ford.

  • @isuckaman I think he looks more like Nikita Krushchev lol

  • @isuckaman I think he looks like the Colonel from Avatar with the scars on his face.

  • Most realistic?!?! Are you crazy?? In what universe can a Charger lose AT LEAST 6 hubcaps in one chase and still have all four? You want realistic? Try 'Gone In 60 Seconds' (the original 1974 film by amateur film maker H.B. 'Toby' Halicki, not that CGI piece of shit with Nick Cage)

  • @tinbender420 haha yo dogg, also in what universe does a Mustang 390-4 catch a Charger be it 426 or 440? They had tpo deflate the Dodge's tires to 15psi "just to make it fair"

  • Driver San Francisco made me search this up. :D

  • best car chase ever

  • @ginoSS87 later on in the movie clip the older guy u seen in the mirror at :44 he is the guy ridng in the passenger seat

  • at 44 seconds that so fucked up lol

the guys wearin glasses n when u c him in the rear view mirron its another dude

  • @ginoSS87 Thats the passenger.

  • I had a mustang 283, 1966 model with pony interior. I loved that car and it was fast enough for me, but time does not stop for the good times. It keeps on going past them.

  • 17 people are either drugged or they have no idea of what they've been watching.

  • Unlike most car chase scenes this one has a driver's eye view.

  • Tarantino said he created the greatest car chase ever in 'Deathproof'. no he did not!

  • 17 people have either crashed into a petrol station or been hit by a mustang

  • That 440 charger was too much hemi for them to handle

  • @98tjc Are you stupid? Serious question... Tell me what year the "440 Hemi" was an option in ANY Dodge/Plymouth cars. The "440 Hemi" must have been a super duper secret, as the only 440 CID engine options advertised were the "440 Magnum" and the "440 Six-Pack".

  • Steve McQueen was my birthday, does that mean I'm boss too?!

  • I noticed at 1:36 the Mustang appears in their rear view mirror. Then in 3:59 their mirror is missing. Then at 4:56 it reappears again.

  • 17 people like Ricers.

  • Cool.

  • Having worked on Bullitt if anyone is inerested I can tell you some interesting storys

on the car chase scene and how alot of it was done.

  • the two guys in the mopar looked like they where real killers, well done.

  • love it! but being from san francisco, i can't get over the editing!! he turns a corner and is on the complete opposite side of town! asxmdgasfagsadbfdsa

  • Not trolling but Mad Max 2 (the Road Warrior) has THE best car chase, 2nd To Live and Die in LA, 3rd maybe Mad Max.

  • Bad-handling muscle cars with big, torquey engines. Doesn't get much better. And Steve McQueen was double-clutching to boot!

  • dudd, steve McQueen is such a boss!

  • Has to be the best of all time. However, they do see the same green Volkswagen several times....

  • there is no better cars then american muscles! AND THAT IS A FACT!!!!

  • Is it the streets of San Francisco?

  • Steve McQueen was always cool,

got a kick out of the old hit men, looked like their pacemakers were about to expire:)

  • Awesome cars.... How come we don't get these cars in the UK? :(

  • @sajid1979

Because you brits can't handle American thorough bred cars and you drive on the wrong side of the road.. ;)

  • Im the only sane person in my family. my sister has an 82 olds cutlass my bro has a 76 nova. and what do i hvae? the best damn car of our family (at least i think) a 68 mustang

  • wild bill said they pulled 2 wires off the 440 so it would stop out running the stand true fact

  • Back when you looked like a badass in a car that topped out at 120...

  • @TheGeek1028 more like 140

  • @dannyb13579 Pff, you'd be lucky to be going that fast in a 4 speed xD

  • @TheGeek1028 you could in the charger, with a 4 speed

  • @dannyb13579 In a Charger, yeah, probably.

  • Gotta love American muscle!!!!!!!

  • Hell yeah! Good ol' American muscle FTW!

  • oooooooh i like that fastback

  • 4:23 their goes the hubcap!!!

  • hell yah badasss

  • at 3:40 the wheel hop was so bad , i feel sorry for that mustang after this movie lol

  • Today's police may use mustang. It will be much faster than today's cars

  • Best movie car chase EVER

  • Between 4:08 & 4:28 . Even with this old Lo-Fi pictures , lot of people get some dizziness to watch this sequence , that's why it's the best ever car chase !...anyway a great classic ...

  • I forgot to throw in the chase scene from "The Blues Brothers" (Holds World Records for Most cars destroyed in a chase scene).

  • @themorn2112 That is pure cinematic genius

  • I have to give it to either the chase scene from "The Seven Ups" Starring roy Sheider, or, the chase scene from "the French Connection. An honorable mention is the race between the Farrari and the AC Cobra in the Movie "Gumball Ralley".

  • Should have won an academy award for best movie car chase ever! Steve McQueen ROCKS!

  • beautifal 68 ss396 chevelle at 5:22, many lovely gm a-bodies in this scene...anyone ever notice the lower ball joint snap at 9:15?

  • 1:00 I like that Bel air the most :D even though the mustang and charger are amazing, bel air is still my favorite lol.

  • @HirokoMayde fuck off

  • give me the dodge charger any day

  • 8:14 luv that sound y dont American make that type of sound any more

  • The Camera truck had a Hell of an ENgine in it!!

  • What makes this so awesome is not only is it pretty much all real time, real speed, it's a smart scene. Smart decisions in the cat and mouse, and smart driving in the chase.

Car chases in movies today are crap. If they shot Bullitt today the drivers would be talking all kinds of crap back and forth explaining what's going on for dummies in the audience, and there would be a giant crash or explosion every 5 seconds. This scene has NO dialog, just like how it would likely be in reality.

  • the real star in the scase scene is the little green volkswagen beetle. the two super cars had to pass it THREE times on the streets of san francisco !!!

  • @6voltdub quit posting this over and over

  • Great car chase like the movie a lot. Another car chase movie from that time would be The seven ups and Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry. But by far Bullitt is the best one.

  • Wannabe a action hero then drive this.

  • 6:00 ,to everyone that says muscle cars can't tame turns

  • IOn eof the best movie car chases but I strongly prefer the bank robber car chase in the movie " THE HIDDEN" to this one

  • There are a couple of spots where it is clearly sped up - it's still impressive but it's not the best movie car chase ever. Just isn't.

  • SORRY ITS NOT "THE BEST CAR CHASE " >> DIRTY MARY & CRAZY LARRY IS , 1 1/2 HR CHASE , WATCH IT IM SURE YOU WILL AGREE. BULLIT HAS A GREAT CHASE BUT NOT THE "BEST "

  • @MyCamaroguy Even though i havent seen the movies that you mentioned, i have to disagree. Bullitts chase scene is the one that started it all. It's the original "car chase scene" and therefore is the best.

  • The glasses are almost as offensive to me as the hubcaps that got knocked off.

  • This is why I am proud to live in San Fransisco.

  • Bad guys always drive a charger.....

  • @heavytommy71 except the dukes of hazzerd

  • @chezbalz ......sorry,you're right....lol

  • @heavytommy71 well they ran from cops and violated parol a whole bunch, so you weren't completely wrong

  • @chezbalz .....right too....LOL

  • @heavytommy71 That's why the good guys always win...

  • @heavytommy71

    Unless you're the Duke boys.

  • @GamertownUSA ....sorry but the duke are in probation....

  • @heavytommy71

True, but in the spirit of the show (at least in the original series) the Dukes were the good guys and Boss Hogg and his boys were the bad guys.

  • @heavytommy71 yea cause in the movies is the only place a mustang beats a mopar lmao

  • Forget the talk about muscle cars of the 60 and 70's. Kids today don't have a clue who Steve McQueen is.

Steve McQueen is the man !

He could have been driving a Rambler and would have still burried that charger.

  • this cars are greate but sometimes it is speed up but who care greate americans legends

  • Thats the best car chase scene of ALLL time!

  • Mopar all the way

  • is that stang really not posi traction

  • best scene ever love this sequence

  • 17 people not know the great film

  • Now if the Duel truck was in the mix, this would be epic, good chase and a pox on cgi.

  • @KG84C Hell ya! the Peterbilt would keep up with 'em too. All Steve and the Charger dudes would see is the words "Flammable" on the ass end of the rusty trailer.

  • 1 Charger

    6 'stangs

Ford build quality wasn't up to it.

  • hahaha how many times does it wanna show them driving past that green beetle

  • Love Steve Mcqueen but Roy Scheider's Seven-Ups chase is best i've ever seen. Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry another awesome chase. Well, several!!!

  • Ironically the new Dodge Challenger SRT8 motors the same exhaust sound as Bullitt's Mustang.

  • Muscle Beats Import Everytime!

  • @CJaguar265 Yes they do my friend. thumbs up!!

  • @CJaguar265 Until you get to a corner that is.

  • @CJaguar265 hell yea if an import tryed this the pos plastic body kit would have fallen of at the first hill and the sceen would have to be sped up because they wouldnt be able to move that quick lol

  • i guess they really cant remake this thanks to Dodge making the Charger a sedan... smh

  • this makes me wanna play 'driver' for the PS1

  • @themonger42 yes San Francisco

The Mustang was the best muscle car back then

  • Great scene but the funny part is the where the charger supposedly hits the gas station at the end and blew u ...yet if you watch you can see the charger driving by behind the station as it blows up.

  • ......wait, was this done in San Fransisco?

  • 6:27 That dude on the bike was insane!

  • motorcraft vs mopar

  • I remember the first time I ever watched Bullit as a teenager with my dad. The part when the driver of the Charger put on his seatbelt he goes "uh oh" and BAM the greatest chase scene ever on film began.

You watch this and then you compare it to that Nicholas Cage turd "Gone in 60 Seconds" and tell me which is better. One feels so real you think you are about to hit a car the other is so apparently choreographed and fake you don't even care because you already know the outcome.

  • at least they have REAL car sounds

  • You realize of course this is the "short" edit of the chase. The full chase in the theatrical version I believe was 21 minutes long. It included a scene where a car parked beside the road opened its door and the chasing cars ripped it off. It almost hit the camera and camera man. Does anyone know what DVD / BluRay version I can get the whole chase on?

  • Did ya'll see that big DANA hangin underneath that charger? It was standard equipment on them 4-speed cars. Dodge got that one right! , again.

  • THE GUYS IN THE CHARGER DONT SAY A WORD TO EACH OTHER, ITS COOL!

  • Mustang spec below;

Mustang had: Extra cooling package, GT equipment Group, 3:00 axle ratio, non locking, pwer disc brakes

Mods for the Chase car: Suspension mods: all parts Magnfluxed, shock mount reinforced, reinforced crossbeam, Koni shocks, super duty coils, limited travel Stabilizers. Firestone GR70-15 F100 radials, 15x7 American racing torq-Thrust D's

Engine mods: Milled heads, ignition mods, carb mods

They smashed in the oil pan in the chase scene

  • Better to burn out than to fade away.

  • This movies awesome! I own the this fuckin movie. Its sucks being 23 and the only one of your group of friends who likes and appercates classic movies like this. We'll I got 2other friends who dude. Steve McQueen is the man.

  • good chase shitty movie though

  • Yes , I lost track after four hubcaps . ha ha ha

  • any one count how many hubcaps the charger lost? more than four lol

  • charger ownz!!!!

  • put your seat belt on like a real bad ass haha

  • for the story, McQueen was angry with ford because they would not lend the cars so he had all the ford and mustang symbols removed from the car...and in doing so... created the best ever fast back there is!!

  • One word....amazing!

  • @CN300 Really? This was all real time. What you see is what you get. They are actually doing a 110 miles an hour. These scenes were not sped up. This is the real deal. No CGI here. They didn't have it in 1968. Some of the sound was dubbed in because the mics couldn't pick up all the noise. That Charger had a 440 ci engine. I was reading an article that said that Charger was mostly stock. It kept leaving the mustang in the dust. They actually had to put smaller tires to Slow it down!

  • @photog455 That's pretty amazing, especially when you consider that @5:25 they're blasting along the Marina, by Chrissy Field where it's 25 mph now, with traffic lights and/or STOP signs at every block. Even if the Charger was faster, the sounds that McQueen's Mustang were making make the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

  • @photog455 Great comment!! I must have watched this 50 times over the years & still gets my heart racing! Steve McQueen does all his own driving. & you are 100% right the Charger was a beast. I grew up when you could buy a monster right off the lot. Its funny kids think their card are fast...they don't have a clue what fast is..

  • @photog455 Great comment! you are 100% right the charger was a beast...Steve McQueen did all his own driving..There were a lot of monsters right out of the factory then... I lived it..gets the heart pumping just thinking of it!

  • @photog455 6:25 that scene can't be 100% real.. i meant, how the hell would someone concur doing something so reckless!?

  • @photog455 The real star in the chase is the little green volkswagen beetle. The two super cars had to pass it THREE times !!! stunning drive from the bug...........

  • The real star in the chase, is the little green volkswagen beetle. The two super cars had to pass it THREE times in san francisco !!!

  • @photog455 It is sped up. The open highway scenes are real speed, but a few scenes through the town are definetely sped up. All you have to do is look at the trees and bushes and watch how "fast" they quivver in wind. Trees and weeds never move that fast, if its really windy they simply bend more, not twitch back and forth quickly.

  • i drive like this to church on sundays!

  • fuck i remmeber when i saw this movie for the first time, it made me love cars

  • poor tires

  • ...without any words...

  • @TortiRox

This car chase scores a 7/10 for me. The Matrix Reloaded was a 10 in my book!

  • Give the Charger to me, the idiot can't drive!

  • @StarsWithScars That "idiot" was the late stunt car driver / actor / producer Bill Hickman. Bill Hickman had more knowledge of automobiles and more brains before breakfast that you'll ever have in your pathetic life.

    Asshole.

  • @StarsWithScars Lets see you throw a 68 Charger around like that....Thats REAL stunt driving

  • @68bobba Agreed - at over 400 HP, and nearly 4,000lbs, with under-sized tires (according to the article sighted by photog455), Mr. Hickman definitely knew what he was doing.

  • Actually, this one IS fairly decent. Certainly much better than cars flying through warehouse windows, making triple pirouettes in the air, only just so avoiding ramming into anything or anyone and then continueing driving as though nothing happened, which is the standard scenario nowadays really.

  • wimpie, really? I think it was much uglier. The cars were much sexier, though.

  • Its great to get a streetview of that period! America looked alot nicer in those days.

  • Why can't todays movies be like this. Pure simple & beautiful. I love how nobody talks except the engines x))

  • The bug, the firebird and the caddy appeared 3 times!
