All Disney sequels/prequels are shit except for this one because it's a midquel and I never expected the animation and story (i have to give credit to it for being original compared to the first one's adapted story) to be good as the first one.
At least all the cast members are back, the addition of new characters are necessary except for Forte because he is a great villain marvellously voiced by Tim Curry and the songs can manage to be good without Alan Manken (it's a shame, I know).
I like Belle's german voice a lot better than the english one because it is softer and fits her more, but I always enjoy watching films in English. Most films are originally produced in America and through the translation many things seem to get lost.
All I have to say is this: I believe this is Disney first real 'sequel' (prequel inbetween-quel whatever it is and if i'm wrong then please correct me) and I say the effort put into this film was fair compared to the original and a heck of a lot better than any other disney sequel. Bonus points for getting the original cast back too but major subtraction for not calling Alan Menken back.
Overall, it's decent and I can sit through it. Even the villian was semi-decent.
@jsininger So are you saying you don't consider the sequels to Aladdin real sequels?
As far as the animation for Disney's DTV sequels go, I think that they got really good towards the end with sequels/prequels like Stitch has a Glitch and The Lion King 1½. Those two were remarkably close to capturing the look and feel of their original films.
@A113Pixar Well, yes they get points for getting original feel of those sequels you mentioned. You can tell a real effort was made for those two and this sequel.
As for Aladdin's sequels, they are more like fanfiction stories than anything. I mean seriously, Jafar comes back and suddenly Aladdin's father shows up. I'm sorry, it's fanfiction to me.
@jsininger Well I know part of it was that Return of Jafar was made as a pilot episode for the TV series, and King of Thieves was kind of a bookend to all that.
nothing wrong with the storylines of disney sequels, just the animation is never given the same effort (looks more cartoony even is characters look the same)
The animation is really sub-par in this sequel, so how will it look better on Blu-ray? I feel like it's going to make the animation's mediocrity all the more evident.
okay film, but it's not as good as the first one, not by a long shot. the animation is pretty good and the returning voice cast is excellent, but it's between a prequel and sequel.
@AncientHistoryBuff yeah, but when you really think about it (and i just realized)... it is a sequel... they are telling the story of how christmas was saved by belle. the time setting is really after the curse is broken and the movie ends (spoiler alert) when mrs. potts finishes the story, chip gets a present, and belle stands out on the balcony with her prince who gives her a rose for christmas.

@AurorasTears I like the French and the English version. Lost in Translation, when it's really a French story

@nellie2581
Yes you're right, the story's french, although I'm not sure if the "original" production really was in French since Disney is an american company...
