  • Took me a minute to realize this was satire.

  • annoying

  • Most placentaphages eat their placentas to avoid post-partum depression, with great anecdotal success. Recipes can be found online for consuming the placenta raw (smoothies are a popular option), cooked in stews or stir-fries, or for the less strong-stomached, dried, ground and capsulised. Capsulised placenta lasts indefinitely, and some women have found it so effective they save some capsules to treat bouts of regular (non-pregnancy-related) depression.

  • @afropagangirl11223 lol

this is a mere placebo (-placenta) -effect and belive it or not, this is the only proven benefit you get from eating discarded organs... but hey, if you're abolutely sure you're healthy, why not skip the lactose-tablets with the tiny bit of herbal essences and eat placenta, gallbladder, apendix or whatever else your body got rid of... it's the same effect after all ;-)

  • Placentas are also rich in zinc, the 'mothering vitamin', which helps women bond with their babies. Research has shown that nearly all herbivorous mammals consume their placentas. First-time animal mothers often neglect to do this, and it has been suggested that their lack of maternal instincts is related to the lack of mothering hormones and vitamins contained in the placenta.

  • While most women might find this a stomach-churning option, there is legitimate science behind consuming the placenta. Placentas are immensely rich in vitamins and hormones which ease the postpartum period. Oxytocin is a 'happy hormone' which encourages bonding in the mother, and helps stimulate uterine contractions and prevent post-partum haemmorhage (in fact, one old-time remedy for PPH is to quickly give the mother a bite of placenta).

  • Banking the baby's cord and placental blood in order to save it for future medical emergencies is a decision that needs to be made ahead of time. Usually blood is taken from the placenta as well as the umbilical cord; after this, the placenta may still be kept and used in other ways.

  • Is it the same Joel Stein that wrote the article "How Jewish is Hollywood?" for LA-Times?!

  • Dude you got issues

  • I know this is pretty old but I'd like to say...

I really don't think you actually read the article if you think he had someone prepare it and then he ate it. The woman made it into pills for his wife. I agree, it was pretty gross, but that doesn't make it reasonable for you to make a personal attack on the name "Cassandra" and totally trash the guy.

  • And White Yuppies eat placenta. Yuck.

  • i like the new look ramzpaul. very conservative and business looking.

  • The most infuriating part of the story is that they paid $250 to have someone cook it!! Whaaaaaa??????? Hell, I could fire up my grill and add a little BBQ sauce for next to nothing. Well, okay, I'd charge for the propane.

Now don't go gettin' all high-falutin on me, you charcoal guys. I like my propane grill. It's just easier. I know the flavor's not as good.

    Mmmm....placenta.

In San Francisco, we were asked if we wanted to keep the placenta. I had a friend who DID eat it.

  • Placenta Cocktail

    Placenta Lasagne

1 fresh, ground, or minced placenta, prepared as above

    2 tblspns olive oil

    2 sliced cloves garlic

    1/2 tspn oregano

    1/2 diced onion

2 tblspns tomato paste, or 1 whole tomato

use a recipe for lasagne and substitute this mixture for one layer of cheese. Quickly saut all the ingredients in olive oil. Serve. Enjoy!

  • Placenta Cocktail

    1/4 cup fresh, raw placenta

    8oz V-8 juice

    2 ice cubes

    1/2 cup carrot

blend at high speed for 10 s. Serve. A tasty thirst quencher!

  • WTF??? That is about the weirdest shit I've heard today!

  • Fucking disgusting.

  • Yeah it should be the wife eating it.

  • If she's feral she should be able to feed herself. That's weird as hell.

  • What? Rly? I've never heard of that.

  • ok so how about breast-feeding babies?

  • No its not. The defining feature of cannibalism is that a human death or dismemberment takes place. Eating a placenta isn't much different than drinking human milk. They both have human cells in them.

  • You know this could just be a cultural thing... some cultures do eat the placenta. Many animal species do it.

  • I thought the female was supposed to eat it... that's how it happens in nature.

  • r u undergoing middle age crisis?

  • What point do you have to be in your life where eating a part of the birth of your child actually seems like a reasonable thing to do?

  • Lots of animals do it...

  • Animals also lick their own butt to clean it. Should people discard toilet paper in favor of their own tongues?

Just because it happens in nature doesn't mean that beings with a higher functioning brain should do it.

  • "if you get to that point.. just kill yourself" LOL! So true, that video must be the new "2 Girls, 1 Cup" hahahahah

  • First! ... but BARF EW!
