Yep he has hasn't trained in 7 months and isn't anywhere near his best shape. He had an odd strategy (mixing between strokes) and didn't swim with enough power off the start (that's because he has never even swam an indiviual 100m freestyle in a meet). Also, Boesquet is ONLY a sprinter - he trains for nothing else. Also, the french guy is wearing a massive high-tech suit which Phelps is not. To sum it all up - give Phelps time and he will clearly dominate this event in a few years.

Thanks for the explanation. I'd read he was experimenting but it was hard to tell in the video. Funny how 25 years ago Eddie Reese was teaching the exact opposite (bend elbows, extend under water, etc.) Reminds me that swimming is far from being a science.
