You're reply is as foolish as you claim my pronunciation is. I specifically said the city is pronounced differently than the surname. How can I be so certain? Because it is my own name and I am pretty sure I have been pronouncing it correctly my entire life. Foolish indeed.
First of all, "your" is spelled Y-O-U-R. Y-O-U-apostophe-R-E means "you are".
Secondly, the fact that Americans systematically mispronounce things is well-known to the rest of the world. I'm sure you are aware of the fact that your ancestors hail from Europe? Consequently, many surnames are of Dutch/German/French etc. origin.
Just look at names with "van" in the USA. They always pronounce it with the "a" as in "man". But it should be like the "a" in "father".
Can you really not get your head around the idea that languages are living things that evolve and pronunciations are often influenced by geography? So as I said in my original post, the Dutch city is indeed pronounced as you indicate. The Egyptian surname most certainly not pronounced that way. It does not matter how many times you repeat it, it does not make you correct about how I should pronounce my own name.
I don't give a flying fuck about how things evolve. The original way is the right way. And if you don't have a connection with this Gouda, then don't post comments here. Toedeledokie.
Hey "Dutche-Bag," What an intelligent and eloquent response. Gouda is an Egyptian surname. It is also a Dutch city. The city is pronounced as you say, the surname is not. It is not complicated. Seeing as this is a Canadian commercial, it seems you have no connection with this Gouda. There is absolutely nothing Dutch about this video. So maybe you should save your posts to things that only pertain to the Dutch city. Then you can always be right. Idiot.
My point has been not to argue anything. That is great that you are from Gouda and as such you pronounce it correctly for the city name. It IS my name so my pronunciation is correct for the NAME not the city. There are potentially multiple pronunciations for words that are spelled the same. For example: I saw a LIVE concert yet you seem to LIVE under a rock.
You have a reason to comment on the city. This specific ad is a Canadian chees ad. As such it has nothing to do with your fine city which you pronounce correctly.
The specific ad is a Canadian ad for the Dutch cheese called Gouda. Gouda Cheese and Gouda city are obviously connected. The cheese market here is still visited by many tourists from all over the world so why don't you stick your head up your toilet? See if it fits.
I guess if you don't care how things evolve, you must still believe the world was created in 7 days, that man rode dinosaurs and the world is only 5000 years old.
Oh, that's correct and I also believe you are more related to apes than I am. I don't know why. Perhaps it's your hairy back or limited brain capacity?
But if you do not care about evolution, as you claim, how could you possibly think I was related to an ape? That would mean you DO believe in evolution. You cannot even keep your insults straight. Keep hitting the bong.
iPhone, how sad that you have to resort to mere consumerism to defend your statement. Oh, but wait, you live in America. People there are less educated, i.e. just down-right stupid and arrogant. Ga je moeder neuken, vuile baviaan. Zoon van een mongoloïde hoer.

Gouda is a last name as well as a city, and the name is indeed rhymes with "Buddha." The city is pronounced like "ou" in ouch
JRGouda 4 years ago
Gouda doesn't rhyme with Buddha.
The Dutch way to pronounce Gouda is with "ou" pronounced as in "foul". The English way is like "fool" and yes, that is, in my opinion, foolish.

So, Gooda is wrong.

Which is all but a shortcoming of the English language. Gouda is not an English word and therefore should be pronounced the proper way.
