traditionally, it was 3 sheilds allowed 2 each contestant, and yeah, a animal hide or cloack measuring 3 meters by 3 meters roughly, also it could between hazel rods, the man who challenged got to make the first move, earlier period showed that it was first to die, to be incapasitated or first to leave the designated area who lost, later period it was the first to draw blood who won, this was outlawed in the 11th century (1007?) tho, because it was basicaly legalised robbery and murder
Well the premise that while in Holmgang they can't leave the enclosed area is correct, the sagas clearly state that the way to establish a Holmgang was to tie a rope in a square around the area where it was supposed to happen or the two warriors went out onto an island in the middle of a lake and were left ther until one prevailed. This is the original "Thunderdome!"

I'm also debating whether or not I should release an HD version using completely raw, uncompressed video. Right now, a few parts are messed up, mainly with the titles inbetween video. Some of the text sticks and one of the titles doesn't show at all. Damned codecs.

This dude got Holmgang wrong, it's three sheilds each, not sevem rounds, and people dueling are supposed to stand in a stretched out animal hide.
