@w00tkid well not practical for me anyways. I know a few people that commute on them, and they do just fine. I just like having a selection of gears for northwest Arkansas hills. I ride my vintage single speed cruiser, but commuting 16 miles a day on a 21 speed is easier.

@djobele Its scary as hell because whatever speed you exert on the pedals is put back onto your legs. Do me a favor and run down the largest hill you can find as fast as you can and then try to slide to a stop - that's how it feels. Oh and btw if your legs get thrown off the pedals at anytime you've got a free 20-25mph ride into the nearest object solid enough to stop you. Fixed gears usually don't have hand-brake.

Never seen a skateboard/longboard with brakes. Nobody is calling them morons for using them as urban transpo. At least you can skid brake with a fixie, foot-braking requires half a block to stop at high speed on a longboard.
