I keep getting the error message "network does not exist" I followed this video exactaly. I am very computer literate and for some reason I am having a very hard time getting this to work. I am running windows XP SP3 and Mac OS Lion. Please help me, Thanks a lot Dave
Dave: Thanks, this video really helped, however, I'm not able to connect to the server. I notice you emphasized you were using a cable connection. I'm trying to share files over an Airport Express network. Do I need to do something else?
Thanks for the really easy tutorial. Although I have a question. My sister had a macbook pro (before unibodies) and she just had a finder window open and it automatically showed my dads laptop and even the name(not just the ip) and we could transfer files back and forth. Nothing was even set up before? How was it so easy for them and yet I seem to have had to follow this tutorial for it to work.
Anyone know how can I share my mac book pro with my mac pro. At the moment I am in NewZealand and my Mac Pro is in UK. I used to share my both computer in UK in same network but I don't know how can I share with different network. Please help me.
Not working. Something is obviously missing... I plug the cable on both sides, do the bullshit, and it never works ! Is there something to do BEFORE the steps mentionned in the Vid?
Dave, as far as i know i followed your instructions to the letter but still unable to transfer files. one of the problems seems to be that i keep getting logged on as a guest and not as a registered user as I keep trying to do. Can you help?
thanks very clear indeed! but how can i do this so the shared drive remains on the mac when I re-boot them without having to type in ip etc.. any ideas? cheers
Dave, great vid but with my connection it defaults to a Wireless connection, even with a crossover ethernet cable connected. File transfers take forever! How can I connect via only the crossover cable?
Great video, Dave! I came over from PC to Mac about 8 months ago. I really could have used this info back then. That little 'blue screen of death' icon is hilarious!
lol i just did this would have been a bit helpful a couple days ago lol i did exact same thing exept sharing my external harddrive so i can access all my movies ect. nice vid anyways
@rpgromaster58 That would take a LOT longer than networking or using an external hard drive, unless you have a mega fast net connection both up and down and enough space on those services to fit it all up there.
i ordered on monday lunch time with the only configuration was a 15" high res screen, does anyone know how long apple usually takes to ship macbook pros to the UK?
@rpgromaster58 When you customise it you should get an estimate on shipping. When I just add the different display option it says 3 days rather than within 24 hours. It should tell you in the confirmation email too.
@TalesOfWar well i ordered a macbook pro about 3 weeks ago and they said 24hr shipping, then 3 day shipping and then 8days shipping so on the 9th day it still wasn't shipped so we cancelled the money going into the account so they could take the money anyway and on Monday i ordered another one on-line and ive had the email come through and it says 3 days shipping. i was just wondering if anyone else has got a macbook pro recently and if they had trouble with shipping
@rpgromaster58 Ah OK, must have been a feck up somewhere along the line lol. I just buy stuff from the physical Apple Store, although I guess you couldn't do that with a customised set up. I'm rather impatient haha.
@lukeool Which pic? If you mean the icon for Windows machines, nope, that's what Apple really use lol. All my PC's connected to the Mac at home and the office show up like that too.
