>mbearble, I *think* that the Rolling Thunder did this, with T-Bone, at the Astrodome. With Jim McGuinn and Mick Ronson and Santana and Stills laying out the sonic backdrop. With Scarlett Rivera, of course ...
I saw them just last week in sweden. They've been doing their thing for a real while, but shit if they don't still look like they enjoy it, and do it well!
The bomb. I listened to the CD endlessly on a Walkman while training for a marathon.
I had a similar experience going to see T Bone Burnett live a couple of times in L.A. in the early 1980s. He has become much more well known as a producer but he and his band were really good. If you can find "Truth Decay", get it. The best part of his shows were the interactive parts. Everything including "These Boots Were Made for Walking", they knew them all.
Absolutely Sweet Marie - Jason & The Scorchers [Nashville, Tennessee] - 1984 - "AMG Pick. While 'Absolutely Sweet Marie' was exciting enough to gain MTV and alternative radio airplay, the six originals (Fervor EP-1983) are equally impressive,..." - EMI Years [Import UK] (Acadia Records) [Disc 1]-2008. NOTE: a frantic cover of Bob Dylan's "Absolutely Sweet Marie" that made the original sound timid.
My fav Cuntry-Punk band, mid-80's. Saw 'em in concert in 1986 in a Tequila- drenched stew in a sweaty, crowded club in Charlotte. BEST R n' R show of me life... " So where are you tonight, Sweet Marie???"
Yeah the Scorchers still kick ass. I saw em in Raleigh, a couple of nights ago. I was into them in the 80's. And you hit it on the head thinking they are Nashvilles answer to the Ramones.
I saw them last night for the first time in 15 years. Man, they still bring it as hard as ever! Jason and Warner have so much energy. And the new album is really good, too--they played a mix of that and the early stuff. Don't miss'em if they come to your town.
I saw them at the Deja Vu in Raleigh back when they wer touring for this album. Jason & I had a discussion on American rock vs British rocker. He was a cool and down to eath individual. Love these guys!!
Thank you Bob for writing a song that Jason and crew could take to stratospheric heights. Your song is the bomb, but this version is the de facto version, end of discussion.
Lots of good memories of this band: waiting for the mens room at the Exit/Inn with a wild-eyed Perry Baggs, Jason strolling the crowd - attracting all the attention at an REM show at the Opry in 86, and seeing the band open for Stevie Ray Vaughan in Knoxville. Loved these guys.
I was lucky enough to live in the N'ville area in the mid-late 80's and saw and met them so many times. I remember sitting at the Goldrush eatting a grilled cheese with Perry. They just never got the respect they deserved. BEST LIVE BAND!! They gave it thier all.
back in the mid 80's at auburn we used to wear the vinyl out playin jason, also a great band called "The Crime" out of Memphis did a whole cover set of jns and we would go to their shows just for that set, i've seen a lot of bands and been to a lot of concerts, i agree none better than jns. later.
Just discovered these guys while searching for different punk genres. They were listed as cow punk. Never thought I'd find a band that encompasses two different genres that I enjoy: punk and country! They remind me, in the way they mix two vastly different genres well, of The Pogues, while Shane MacGowan was the frontman.
I only recently discovered this band. They had a track (Self Sabotage) on a freebie CD I got and I thought I'd check them out. Thanks to everyone who's posted JATS stuff on You Tube for showing me what I've been missing!
saw them live once... they ROCKED!!! ..what a trip down memory lane...I feel a little old now..wonder if my kids would like them? Don't have their cassette anymore : )

i can't believe you all. good dylan cover? this doesn't even cut it. it's a sad excuse for a cheesy 80s pop song, video and that harmonica sounds like a cheap, scratched-up blue rodeo vinyl
Thanks for this! I saw these guys at the long-defunct Howard Street Tavern in Omaha in 1983. There was no one at the show! We had a great time drinking beer and talking to the band between sets..........
I bartended at the Exit/In in Nashville when these guys were a new band. They always melted the crowd but I remember the fun when they would hang out after closing and party with me and Bruce and a few of the select. Awesome band-Incredible people. But they shouldn't have let the corporation talk them into changing their name. Originally, it was Jason and the Nashville Scorchers. They thought it would make the rest of the nation think they were a country band.
These guys played in Fargo, ND. in 96' Jason made some comment (after playing this song)about Dylan being from around here. Jason then asked the crowd "what do you want us to play?" I think he thought we didn't know much of their music in Fargo. I yelled "Help, There's a Fire!" Jason looked at Warner and then Perry, and Perry said "u didn't expect that did you Jason". Jason looked straight at me and said "if it's Help There's a Fire you want, it's Help There's a Fire you get! Great show!
high school grad nite at disneyland, june 1984. They had all sorts of lame bands playing, like the dazz band and a bunch of other who knows and who cares. best live "bar" band in the world with the possible exception of Dash Rip Rock. But they deserved to be far more than what the record companies allowed them to achieve.
Superb band, cliche but old stuff is the best, especially on this ep (Fervor) & 'Lost & Found' album. Also, check out earlier 'Jason & the Nashville Scorchers' stuff. Unfortunately never got to see them live...
One of the most entertaining live bands that I've ever seen. The video is so dated, but captures some great Nash Vegas landmarks, like Hatch Show print in the beginning. But that dancing, LOL, OMG! thank goodness the 80's are
Oh yeah. Still does it with a cig sticking in the fretboard. Last time I saw them in Nashville in 2004 and I think he does it on a video to the right here. White Lies
I loved these guys back in the day. BUT..who the hell told them to shoot this kind of video..dress like that..dance like that? Oh...right..right..big label execs. It looks like some kind of bad Billy Idol/Steve Stevens/Bruce Springsteen nightmare. Proof positive of why the record industry is lying in the hospital bed with the death rattle in its chest.
I LOVE the Scorchers. They are getting together one more time Sat June 2nd 2007, a benefit for the drummer who had diabetes and kidney failure. I'm goin! Nashvegas! Anyone know where I can get lyrics to "One Foot in the Honky Tonk"...I have looked everywhere and lost my cd!...hugs
