  • I want this video on my OT-E230 unit.

  • lets be honest, a personality like pattersons is rare in boxing, what a true legend

  • Floyd Patterson was a genuinely wonderful person.

  • lookin at floyd smile at the end shows how much he loves his son.and the way he speaks in the corner shows he has alot of experience and compasion for the sport.i wish he had trained me.i learned my sparring 5-6 guys 3-4 times a week.it was hard but i got alot of xp.

  • belive it or not my uncle had floyds championship belt.he did a tattoo for it cuz he loves boxing but thought it was fake.he let me carry it and it was very heavy and real gold.so he thought it was a replica or something.when he put it up at i think e-bay the response he got shocked him.not only was it really floyds belt it was real gold.my uncle gave it back to floyd with no cares cuz my uncle is a pro boxer.i do boxing also and i feel honored that i got to hold this legends history.

  • wow this guy was brilliant !

  • Patterson was too light, even in his era, but you'd never find a more dignified, intelligent or admired heavyweight champ. One has to remember that Patterson kept in the game well after he lost the title the second time and, in fact, fought Ali in two bouts in which he acquitted himself quite well in 1965 and again in 1972. A true champion and wonderful man. Unlike others who "fought too long", Patterson retired at 37 and would have been a force past the mid sixties but for his weight.

  • His gazelle punch was amazing.

  • What a gentleman!

  • R.I.P Floyd Patterson

  • Patterson was such a gentle, shy and sensitive man. It's sad to see the beatings he took in the ring and how he ended up with alzeimers.

  • Floyd is easily the most underrated Heavyweight champion. R.I.P. Mr. Patterson.

  • floyd was a great man

  • Floyd, one of the nicest people in boxing.A true gentleman. Why aren`t there more people like him in the game?A sad loss when he departed this world,Bless you Floyd !!

  • Floyd, one of the nicest people in boxing.A true gentleman. Why aren`t there more people like him in the game?A sad loss when he departed this word.Bless you Floyd.!!

  • Patterson obviously wasn't the greatest boxer ever, but he was one of the most respectable man to ever win the title. I've got a ton of inspirational quotes by him on my computer. Somehow they mean more coming from Patterson than from other people like Ali or Tyson.

  • great person !!!

  • THEY NEED TO MAKE A FLOYD PATTERSON MOVIE . WHO COULD PLAY HIM ?

  • @TheRANMANTUBE mos def

  • this guy is the real deal. He couldn't beat the biggest heavyweights, and there are no excuses in boxing. But when it came to boxing style and skill, he was way up there, maybe at the very top.

  • 2:50 Jesus Christ

  • my father used to watch floyd fight all the time the gazzlepunch flawlessss

  • one of the great gentleman of the sport

  • I first saw this video like a year ago. But there are certain things he says in this interview that has always stuck to me. For example talking about that "Spark", its so true. Also mentioning that boxing is a revenge sport is spot on. I thank Patterson for what he has given to boxing

  • floyd is a greaqt guy

  • Patterson was cursed by his size. He was just too small for a heavyweight, and his style didn't make it OK like Marciano.

He lost to Liston and Ali because he was smaller, not because he wasn't as good. If there were a 190 pound weight class back, he would have been very hard to beat.

Fighting guys 25 pounds heavier is very hard, especially with his style. Saying they were better is based on that; even Ray Robinson would have no chance against even a Joe Frazier. Was Frazier better?

  • @TA152H01 so how come tyson wasnt cursed ????

  • @wereareyoumarn He was 30 pound heavier. There's a big difference, literally, between a 190 pound guy and a 220 pound guy.

  • @TA152H01 yh i see what u r saying but he has the speed advantage an there both heavyweights so the weight means nothing when you are that big

  • @TA152H01 yeah but hearns weighed 160 and had the most power behind a punch throughout all divisions ! did he not ?

  • @wereareyoumarn Well, I'm not sure he had the same punch as he went up to heavier weights like LH, but it's really not the point.

HW division is different. When Hearns moves up in weight, he's fighting guys the same as he. Patterson was fighting guys 30 pounds heavier in some cases. Not 30 pounds heavier than he was six years ago, but 30 pounds heavier than he was when he stepped into the ring.

Outside of HW, guys fight guys close the same size. Patterson was fighting bigger men.

  • @TA152H01 yh i kno wat u r saying but tyson was 217 fightin 244 which is nearly the same it really doesnt matter once ur head is to it

  • @wereareyoumarn The fallacy in that is that Tyson never fought a single guy 30 pounds heavier except very late in his career, and really big guys like that aren't as coordinated in most cases. In many fights, Tyson was as heavy or heavier than the guys he fought. He was a pretty average weight for heavyweights of that period.

Patterson was not only fighting bigger guys, he was fighting GREAT bigger guys, like Ali and Liston. Compare that to Frank Bruno.

  • He comes across as a very articulate man for an ex boxer.

  • what a brilliant man

  • There is sumthing specials about boxers that distincts them from other people. I am proud to call myself a boxer!

  • @born2fight99....Not your boxing skills.....Its your grammar that stands out kid.

  • @Freewhopper13 *special

  • What a classy guy. God bless Floyd Patterson.

  • Definitely my favourite boxer. One of the classiest fighters ever to grace the ring. And I agree that he and Mos Def look/sound quite similar. Why has no one done a movie over him yet??

  • @AaronBurr17 Actually, I noticed a lot of similarities between Rocky III and Floyd Patterson. After all, both Rocky and Patterson were nice guys and great fighters, and both had a father-like figure as a manager (Mickey and Cus D'mato respectively) Unfortunately, the managers cared so much for the fighters that they protected them from serious competition. Neither Rocky nor Floyd could live like that, so they had to face a real contender. When they did, they lost, but then they won the rematch!

  • dont listen to them floyd you'll always be a star either here or in heaven.

  • Floyd Patterson was a class act.

  • @tsx1561 I agree, Floyd Patterson was one of the best to come out of boxing!

  • they need to make a boxing bible, and put his statements in bold.

  • @avreeves im currently writing the bible of boxing

deversifying boxing philosophy the world over

  • @johnosandra well im glad u watched this

  • @avreeves fyold patterson is a top bloke

    i thought i was crazy

    ive thrown about 1000billion punchs

ive wanted to be the champ since i was 6 and i used to watch 15 rounders and play lego all the time lol

lol i swear i used to train myself when i was 6 lol

  • The gentleman of Boxing.

  • A great boxer and a good man ! thank's for posting !!!

  • I met Floyd in Manchester, NH in 1990, at a fight show. I don't know how he even fought as a heavy, clad in a t-shirt, he looked more like a middleweight. Anyway, we spoke for about 10 minutes and he was such a nice, classy, soft-spoken gentleman. He truly was a good man! RIP, Champ!

  • Really neat interview. Thanks!

  • Great champion, my dad knew him. If they ever do a feature film on him, rapper/actor Mos Def would be awesome, same size and they look like twins. Refreshing to see a champ retire and he looked great and no slurred speech. Gone too soon, R.I.P. Floyd.

  • He was not the best HW ever but still my favorite. I dont think many had faster hands than him maybe a 20 year old tyson or prime ali. check out his K.O over eddies jones, scariest 1-2 combo ive ever seen in my life

  • The gentleman of boxing, thanks for posting.....rest his soul.

  • One of the most well spoken fighters to ever live. Some of the fastest hands, too.

  • @Thehwchampionotw i didnt say floyd wood beat vitali i sed i think liston wood in a tough fight

  • Sugar ray robinson sayd that he didn`t enjoy boxing that much, but if floyd thinks otherwise he may have lied

  • @fanaticnik

? i dont understand your comment

  • @Ahmet1445 He's trying to say that maybe Sugar Ray did in fact enjoy boxing and lied about not enjoying it because of Patterson's comment on the subject.

  • RIP

  • what a gr8 guy

  • i use to do the bathroom thing i always start frowing punches at 4 in the morning always feel sharp at that time

  • rip champ

  • This fella is very popular in Sweden. The small country in Europe where Ingmar Johansson came from. He knocked our guy out twice in the process getting popular...

  • damn hes smart. favorite.

  • he's gotta be related to Mos Def

  • @chocolatepowershovel They're both from Bedford-Stuyvesant.

  • FLLOYD Patterson would knock out every heavyweight fighters today

  • @raheemisbad He was knocked out in the 1st round by Liston, so how should he survive a fight with either of the klitscko bros or Haye?

  • @prayforme111 Because Liston was better then both Haye and the klitschkos. Patterson's just got too much heart, I mean come on, klitschko quit because of a shoulder injury while ahead on points, and all these champions today are afraid of eachother. Patterson was not. After being knocked out by Liston he stepped in to the ring with him again. COURAGE is Patterson described in one word. he would not stop and none of the fighters today has ever faced anything like this man. An alltime great!

  • @uglybabashouse2 Liston also quit because of a shulder injury, or atleast i think it was a shulder injury?? But still, you dont know how bad that might have been, klitshcko kept on fighting with one of the most nasty cuts i have seen against Lewis.. Believe it or not.. Vitali do have a lot of heart.. Im not taking anything away from Patterson, but i just cant see him beating Klitschko or Haye.

  • @prayforme111 liston could hit twice as hard as haye and klitschkos and floyd wood ko both haye and wlad in 1 and liston wood ko both klitschkos and haye in 1

  • @lee1990lee Hmm, how can you state that? Listen i like all the past greats, boxing was rougher the further you go back but still.

    Patterson: 6'0 height, 71' reach, 185 IBS

    Liston: 6'0 height, 84' reach, 210 IBS

    Vitali: 6'7 height, 80' reach, 250 IBS

Vitali KO ratio 88% (Against Big 200+ heavyweights)

Patterson Ko ratio 62% (against small heavyweights and cruiserweights

Liston Ko ratio 72% (against small heavyweights and cruiserweights)

  • @prayforme111 small heavyweights can still take a shot ali at 215 never was kod haye and wlad both have weak chins and vitalis woodnt hold the power of liston little corey sanders had him runnin in round 2 liston wood kill him

  • @lee1990lee Ohh Yeah, Because both Patterson and Liston have Iron Chins, they have both been Ko'ed in the first round, correct me if im wrong, but patterson have been flored by a jab from Ali. okay, Vitali had a bad moment there (every fighter have those), but again Liston Ko'ed by Ali in the first round, a guy who wouldnt even have average power today, also Ko'ed by a guy who would barely been a heavyweight today.

  • @prayforme111 liston and ali is somthink u dont bring up in and agrument because no 1 nos if it was real and liston took shots from punchers like williams and still knocked the guy outs and had a broken jaw in 1 of his fights and went the distance ali and liston 2 was jus a fight the mob got some good wins off

  • @lee1990lee Williams is a solid guy, i wont deny that. But, Klitschko have never been floored, and never been outboxed, not saying that he is invincible, but neither was Liston, and looking at the resume Klitscko have taken punches from bigger athletes, and have also floored and knoced out the bigger guys..

  • @prayforme111 i think vitalii vs liston probly 50 50 but haye and wlad hed ko but i still think id go with liston to beat vitali becus vitali cant move that fast and to beat liston u gotta stay away from him

  • He was the reason Rocky Marciano retired. Floyd was a young up and coming fighter, and Rocky was scared of that

  • @blackezi3 thats true

  • @blackezi3

dude are you kidding me.. rocky was old and was going to retire very early..He said that in interviews..

Rocky didn't fear any man, and he certainly didnt fear floyd.

  • @TommyGun7111

True. Rock started later than any other heavyweight in history. What was he like 25 when he started?

  • @willsmackyoudown

yeah something like that. The point is he retired very early, and really, Rocky would have had a good chance to beat Floyd even at that point.

  • Thanks for posting this clip. Mr. Patterson (R.I.P.) he was a great fighter and a good person. I think Mr Tyson would have turnout like Mr. Patterson if Mr. Cus D'amato would have lived longer.Peace

  • Patterson looked like he aged well and still has his mental functions intact.

  • "They said I was the fighter who got knocked down the most, but I also got up the most."-Floyd Patterson

  • @luisjayson One of the best quotes i've ever heard.

  • great man pretty under rated

  • @Blackjesus3 yeah he was a great guy, but once he was in the ring he became a beast!!! just a legend, long life to this great fella...

  • @jego38 yupps exactly :)

  • he died from alzheimers but he also had prostate cancer

  • whats the name of his haircut?

  • @YoungTugaTV The Patterson

  • I like his style, very technical and smart.

  • my favorite hw boxer

  • great boxer, greater man...RIP champ

  • I agree that he was more of a light-heavy, but he chose to box at heavy. He was a great fighter and an authentically nice man.

  • His finishing blow the 'Gazelle Punch' was amazing.

  • @ consta4891 please stop sending me any personal message. Idon't want to hear you. I am not a Chainese either.

You should start live your life and trying to be happy yourself instead of try to make others unhappy.

This is what this guy consta 4891 sends me...

piece of shit Stupid commentaries? My commentaries are wise, you are an poor idiot who does not want to listen the truth.

Now go with your mother the prostitute to being a nuisance to another site, Chinese of shit!!!

  • @NeonLeon78 yea consta4891 says that i do not no anything about boxing he got me pissed thats y i have tose comment

  • He aged really well.

  • oh man i miss custamado so much , i miss him like he was my own ,, ,,,where are the custamados of today, he knew how to build a champ.... i will have u know that the man that was responsible for this mans career is also the man responsible for mike tyson becoming the beast in the ring that he was ....and world champ at 19yrs

  • Floyd may not have been as good of a fighter as Ali or Liston, but he was a better man than both of them.

  • @JJHusker mmm patterson was a pretty short man compared to ali or liston...he was a lightheavy boxer...he was such talented he always fought the big guys...but ali n liston were pretty much bigger...ali was superior because or his granite chin, but patteron was faster n punched pretty much harder...

  • @JJHusker he was better fighter than Liston. But Liston was to powerful for his glass chin

  • @JJHusker Bullshit.

  • You are,right?@hitmancoolio

  • @JJHusker Maybe during boxing days. Now, Ali has given millions to people, ad during the boxing days, forgave people of ripping off millions of dollars.

  • @JJHusker crazy

  • @JJHusker he was overall a far better fighter then Liston but styles makes fights. Plus Floyd had an horrible chin and Liston had an 13 inch reach advantage and brutal KO power

  • Damn.. Fast hands, knock out power, and good head movement. Oh can't forget the heart :P

Man he IS very underated, one of my favs. I like him better then Tyson actually

  • @TommyGun7111 I Agree Up Untill Liking Him More Than Tyson

  • i do. he was a better person then tyson and thats why i like him more.

tyson was kind of an asshole all the time. the majority of his career was a waste compared to the greats.

He was only good for 3 years. after that he went down hill, and he was beatable.

  • that doesn't stop me from liking him more as a person and a fighter. you have to consider that his heart is superior to tysons, whom always seemed to give up in his later fights. did you read what I said? i said that Iike him more then Tyson as a fighter; everyone is entitled to their own opinion about boxers, and Floyd is a nicer guy then Tyson IMO. I never said he's the better fighter.

  • @consta4891 you are an idiot. even evander holyfields is better than tyson.

  • @alielmir2 even holyfield? holyfield would rape patterson with 1 hand in the back, and... any simpleton like you can say "you are an idiot"moderates your words small chunk of shit

  • @consta4891 im taklin about tyson idiot

  • and?

  • Why are you keep posting stupid coments ? What for? You are not making any point. Obviously you are just making people uncomfortable and unhappy here by you trying to bring Floyd down. Now why do you want to do that? Think.

  • sry i arguing to some idiot

  • @alielmir2

Obviously you do not know anything on boxing, a person who insinuates patterson was better than tyson does not know anything on boxing, a person who insinuates patterson was better than evander holyfield, does not know shit on boxing.

floyd patterson was a great champ, but he was a light heavyweight really.

  • @consta4891

he was 1 natural light heavy

  • he was iin good shape even when he was old.

  • @Zaid9159 Yes, but unfortunately he did have Alzheimer's when he died at age 71 which would be twenty years after this interview. Symptoms of brain damage in boxers are sometimes not obvious or appear in later life.

  • ANYBODY can heve Alzheimer's when you are 71.

  • His mother had it and his older brother had it too. Floyd did not get it from boxing. He was good to boxing and boxing was good to him.

  • he may be good fighter but a real no match for the greatest mohammad ali

  • He was very humble. A TRUE FIGHTER. An inspiration in my eyes!

  • No he was a great fighter to do what he did.

  • Great vid. Floyd is very underrated to me. Very few mention him when they talk about the greats, and they should. It's amazing how he withstood the beating unlike most heavyweights that boxed as long as he did. RIP.

  • if they ever do a movie on him and mos def can get ripped up...he would be the perfect floyd patterson! as far as face goes.

  • @cjtoota1

for sure, even sounds like him a bit.

  • What great insight that we can apply to our daily lives.

  • thanks for adding this, good interview with no leading questions of a great man

  • Legend!!!

  • A nice man and courageous in the ring.

  • Comment removed

  • r.i.p one of the greats of heavyweights!

  • thanks so much for the vid

  • one of the greatest,, jor frazier vs floyd patterson would be the money fight,, since they both had the same money punch, left hook, joe frazier ow rolling then left hook, and floyd patterson jumping left hook

  • Very enjoyable. I was so thrilled when Floyd worked with former heavyweight contender Donovan "Razor" Ruddock.

  • Floyd was a great fighter and a Legendary Person. The world lost a great man when he died

  • Comment removed

  • Mos Def should play him in a movie

  • thats exactly what i've been saying

  • He is great

  • Floyd is one of my favorites ever.

  • fastest hands ever ?

  • Floyd Patterson.... always a favorite. Thanks... very much!
