I think that one doesn't really need to understand the words to enjoy the song most. The words actually spoil in some cases. I know French, still I prefer not to listen to the words of this song, they're really not that special, contrary to the music.

BTW this is also the reason people enjoy songs such as Era's Hymne, The Conquest of Paradise theme by Vangelis - the music (of the language as well) is beautiful, while the words have no real meaning.
