i would say this is more decorative..the tree grew 50 plus years perfectly fine without the mulch, as you can see. It's a big tree.

very good videos friend. i do have one question. do you ever have a problem with weeds growing up through your mulch bed? do you lay anything under your mulch to prevent it. weed guard or anything?

Ideally the flare on the trunk should be at ground level. Soil mounded up at the base higher than grade is unnatural and produces some problems, i.e. the tree will send out roots into that soil.
