Just to try and save you some trouble when one uses the term Fan-sub it is usually referring to a subbing of a video not performed by the original creator or who has the rights to it in most cases. Coined of course for the subbing of Anime done by a source that is not the publisher that has the rights so I believe that is where your confusion is arising. (Although one should be able to figure out that you are using the term in a different way simple by context and if they do know the song lol)
