Table saws do not cut as cleanly as lasers, and if not cut right can splinter the glass. Lasers are much faster and more efficient as well

yes, it is acrylic, but the laser must work on long infrared wavelenght (more than 3000 nm i think), but low power is sufficient

the film on top is just to protect the mirror from getting scratched... thats if this is an acrylic mirror. the laer will cut through the reflective surface regardless of there being a film or not.! its the wrong type of mirror to be worried about the laser being reflected. i use them every day!

Cool to see that lasers can in fact cut mirrors. I thought there would have been a paradox of sorts being that mirrors reflect all light. Is there something im missing?

Mirrors don't reflect every color and all the light they get. If you have a laser in the color the mirror doesn't reflect - it solves your problem. Also the filter on top helps reducing the shine.

That is true - also it helps to focus the beam at a certain point. This is how they manage to etch those three dimensional acrylic blocks with images on the inside.
