Verdamte Germanen !!!
Do you cuss people for their choice of favourite colour too?
Taste in music is entirely subjective. The only person seriously lacking in the brain department, is someone who thinks they have the self-indulgent right to cuss someone's personal choice...
Go read the book of life... and be sure to start at page 1.
Well then they shouldn't have signed Reutemann the minute Lauda crashed in Nurburgring in 1976. This annoyed Lauda to such an extent he signed for Brabham in 1978 and 1979.
As it was, McLaren made him come out of retirement in 1982. He did better in his 1982 comeback than Schumacher does now in 2010.
Enzo Ferrari also said Gilles Villeneuve was the fastest racing driver he had ever seen. They didn't need Lauda when they had Villeneuve. Sadly Villeneuve crashed and died in Zolder 1982.
I doubt Lauda could have won the 1978 title in a Ferrari against the dominant ground effect Lotus which Andretti and Peterson easily won races with. In 1979 possibly, IF he could beat Villenueve or Scheckter. Piquet beat Lauda in Brabham in 1979. Watson beat Lauda in McLaren in 1982 and 1983.
Yes but Niki almost always outqualified Watson, Lauda was definitely the faster driver, but he had reliability issues many times. In 1984 Prost was definitely faster than Lauda. But Lauda showed Prost how to win with guile.
Enzo Ferrari also said rearengined cars were never going to be able to compete with front engined cars. That's why he kept frontengined cars in 1960 after all the others had realized that the rearengined Cooper's and their titles in 1959 was the way of the future.
Enzo Ferrari also said:"Aerodynamics is for those that cannot build engines". Guess that's why other teams developed ground-effect, wings, wedgeshape, sidemounted radiators, monocoques not Ferrari.
I wish I could meet that legend one day... the most legendary F1 driver alongside senna, villeneuve, fangio and clark ( sorry schum, you lack charisma, your era too ).
Being a Piquet fan, the 1984 season was one of the most frustrated one, since the Brabham-BMW BT53 was usually the fastest car on the track (Piquet = 9 poles that year), but that BMW engine version was unbelieaveble unreliable....
every race was mostly the same history: piquet at pole, fast start, open up like 5-10 seconds do both McLarens on the first 5 laps then they started coming.... slowly but steadily, both would end up passing Piquet in ~10 laps, then the next thing you would see
This song is so good!!! I remember it almost 10 years ago in NFS 4 high stakes. I miss those old games. They ruined them with the new street racing series.
He came from an era when alot of the drivers had no traction control or computers. He had true skill and like Gilles Villeneuve, Stewart and others, he dazled the crowds with his abilities and true talent.
Prost was so nice on the podium :) I wonder how would senna look like if he was in prost's shoes. Would have been darker than a night probably

(continuing) was a white and blue brabham parking alongise the track, with a white/black smoke coming out of its engine.... :-(
Gauchoo1234 2 years ago
That's the technical challenge. Building a fast AND reliable car.
McLaren had the fastest car in 2005, but it was prone to technical malfunctions at every other race.
Renault had the fastest car in 1982, but hardly the most reliable.
McLarenMercedes 1 year ago
@Gauchoo1234
Well, the same thing happened to Kimi Raikkonen in 2005 (most laps led all year)
and Ayrton Senna in the Lotus-Renault in 1985(most laps led)
and Jim Clark in 1967, and Alain Prost in 1982, and Ronnie Peterson in 1973, and Mario Andretti in 1977 and Niki Lauda in 1974 and Stirling Moss..
For your info, Prost did led more laps in 1984 than Piquet. 345 vs 241. Lauda led for 168 laps
Peterson had 9 poles in 1973 and led 393 laps (Stewart 214)
Lauda had 9 poles in 1974,led 339laps

MY GUESS WOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 5 TITLES
dvsapata 4 years ago
If if if.
If Ascari never died in 1955 he would have won more titles.
If Clark never died in 1968 he would have won more titles.
If Stewart hadn't retired after 1973 he would have won more titles.
If Senna hadn't died in 1994 he would no doubt have won the 94,95,96 titles for Williams.
He had a good McLaren in 1982 but couldn't beat Watson his team mate, who was 5 points from being champion in 1982.
The 1985 McLaren was good enough for Prost to be champion. Lauda had the same car.

Lauda pipped Prost to the title by half a point, the smallest margin in history.
