wow, im not on the drum line but im just a normal drummer, i rlly dont understand how they do that, it prabably is hard eneough doing the part, but in sinc with other ppl, and dont forget about the ppl playing the toms wow thats takes alot of training
I'm a "normal percussionist"(but my main instrument is drum kit)myself but you're right it is hard to play clean in a drumline believe me I know....We have 4 snares and 2 tenors and 4 bass drums and it's hard to stay clean and our bass drums can't even split cleanly. But we are gonna get some snare and bass tech soon (we can't afford a tenor tech yet) and hopefully it'll change soon
drumier: first of all, those harnesses arent space age, they're regular old vest carriers...and since when does the type of harness dictate what kind of grip you use. also, those "doinks" as you call them are using traditional grip, not yankee doodle left hand grip. show me a video of you marching in a line that's more successful than the cadets and then you can talk. until then, at least make sure you actually know what you're speeaking of.
I love how everybody who watches these videos is an expert judge and knows exactly what they're talking about. especially when they criticize these kids who work their nuts off all summer to be as good as they can. it really shows how classy some people are
lol @ people who think Cadets would've won drums in 2006 if they were "just a little cleaner." what a joke. phantom regiment stomped cadets into the dust in 06. fact. i'm from nj and i'm a big cadets fan, but even i know that their 2006 book was nothing compared to pr's.
That's right. 2000 through 2003, and 2005. And if they would have been a little cleaner, they would have easily taken 2004 and 2006. But the books were outrageous both years.
why argue? all you need to do is check from the 2000 season on. ever since the new millennium came the Cadets drumline has won 4 or 5 of the last 7 percussion titles. it's basically a no contest argument. the cadets are good whether you believe it or not.
hey uh all rudiments are basic if the name RUDIMENTS didn't tell u that. maybe before you say they suck you should try play paradiddles at 260 or singles at 120 then tell me basic rudiments fast arn't hard. By the way all of you quints players who think they suck, cadets have one of the best if no the best quints out there see cadets 2000
yeah i know u wrote this a while ago, but yeah i agree, whoever said the cadets suck and dont play anything hard doesn't know anything about drums. and yeah its about playing stuff great, which they do, eights is just as hard to play great.
Although I'm a tenor player myself, these guys are overrated, they play basic rudiments really fast, so they sound clean. I like their horn line better.
And your frieking point would be?!? Is it not beter to play simple stuff fast and CLEAN that to attempt to play da chu da's inverted with cheeze accents into flams fives that sounds like shit...?
not overrated at all.. they are always marching in perfect step and the drumline always looks so badass.. my band director was in the cadets.. they would march into ppl if u got in their way.. deserve #1.. badass drumline(and the rudiments are hard to play clean the faster u play, i would believe.. ) i am also a tenor player
I may just have to take that comment back. I applied for the 07 corps and I just got the audition stuff, it is all basic rudiments, but its insanely hard the way Tom Aungst puts this stuff together. So I hereby retract my previous comment.
what i meant was the snares sound too artificial not like a warm 60's drum it's the kevlar and whatever else makes them sound so electronic it's been bugging me since the 70's
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i watch them all, coincidently the empire statesmen were using real drums in the year they were playing matched grip and they sounded rich. which reminds me if all these doinks are wearing space age harnesses why are they still using the yankee doodle left hand grip ?
I gaurantee you all those "doinks" are on way better drumlines than empire (cadets, phantom regiment, Reading buccaneers <-- BEAT EMPIRE), cavaliers, bluecoats, and crown.)
That's because of the sticks they use. I personally like their snare sound, it's different. Not what I'd have given any choice, but it's a good sound.
in my top favorite shows, i was dry humping in love with the drumline this year haha

Dipshit, I know what this video is. I was just continuing my ridicule of the 2006 show from another conversation I was having.

it's always nice to listen to a good drumline that also plays musical.

could use more snare. i know basic is sometimes better, but or highschool cadence was more intreasting. great use of base drums though.

I'm sorry but Cadets are not even close to being overrated. They own all. And kietey14 is right on every level. CADETS FOR LIFE.

If that's what it is, then other corps that year didn't do "basic" rudiments well.
Says something right?

are you seriously complaining about what grip they're using? did you not just listen to that?
I don't care if they play with the sticks in their mouths, if they can sound that clean, let them play like they want to play.
