  • @npm0814 and ExclusiveLM,

Grow up and stop showing your asses. After over 50 years spent on this planet I still find it hard to believe that some people can continue to be brain-dead, full of shit prejudiced idiots. The styles of the times were the styles of the times just like you see some ink, clothing and absolutely on the other side of sense styles today. I think they're pretty damned stupid as far as taste goes but I don't make any judgement past that. Neither should you. Smell the coffee.

  • They look like fags.

  • ahh, 1974. roller rinks, puppy love, cleva teidman, those were the days!!! first time i saw you i fell in love cleva.... still remember the sweater you wore....Hays, Ks.....Dave...memba?

  • What kind of pianos and keyboards are those? LOL. Borrowed from the library?

  • Dinah...lol...

  • WTH! the song wasn't even over..

  • I loved this song. But Bo always looked like he was in pain when he sang this..LMAO

  • another song of a man singing the female part how ridiculous is that?

  • Some great memories.

  • I always thought he was cute. I had a crush on him as a kid.

  • Are those outfits tight enough? They must have 2 socks in each of em.

  • WTF

  • I remember when this was my favorite song. I used to listen to it on my transistor radio.

    lol.

  • Your vid went viral on Sao Tome

  • And it was because of THIS crap that a band like The Ramones came into being. Hey it's fine to like some '70s pop rock, but there was the good and then there was....THIS.

  • @MattHatter

this song dates back to the US Civil War

so maybe, just maybe... it had some resonnance with what was happening over the whole Vietnam war issue

  • @sugarnads O.K., I see. Maybe. It's still god awful though. It's like an even more hideous sounding version of Gary Puckett and The Union Gap (if that's possible). But hey, it became a hit so more power to Bo Donaldon and Co.!

  • @MattHatter

and the ramones.. lol... they an barely stand up on their own let alone 'play'

a truly awful band raised to exalted status for some reason

  • @sugarnads OH PLEASE! Barely stand up on their own? Guess you were one of those back in 1976 who heard them and said, "Hey! They're no Led Zeppelin!" Truly awful? I thought by now EVERYBODY would "get" The Ramones. Those guys took their amateur playing (which advanced into sophisticated playing as they toured constantly through the years) and turned it into something so incredibly solid that no "accomplished" band could replicate it if they tried. Dude, it's time to "get" them.

  • @MattHatter What was that all that about?

  • @Smackdaddy9 What was what all about? That dude calling The Ramones "awful?"

  • #1 song in America the week I was born!

  • This video went viral on Beijing

  • the lead singer, mike gibbons, made my teen age heart pound. loved that man.

  • Why did it take 7 of them to record one of the worst songs to ever disgrace a slab of vinyl? And look at Bo's face when he sings. Half the time he looks like he's smelling a nasty egg & beer fart lol.

  • @kevjay777 and it only took one dipshit like you to write this

  • @okfire65 Ah yes, another brave keyboard commando.

  • @kevjay777 Simply because you don't like his values, doesn't devalue them. There are places for soldiers and for those who stay home in our world. We need both fighters and pacifists. We both grow stronger as a result of each other.

  • @mousefir Classic example of not knowing what you're commenting on. I checked out okfire65's channel. He & I actually have much in common. I'm an accomplished survivalist, & as a former USCG aviation SAR crewman (rotor & fixed wing) had considerable training & actual real world experience. I made a silly comment about this silly song. He made a bravado personal attack to me. BFD I won't lose any sleep over it.

Now you call me a pacifist because I called him a keyboard commando? That's funny.

  • @kevjay777 No, I just said the world needs both kinds of people. Glad you guys have so much in common, but I wasn't doing much more than making a general observation about the world. Have a great day.

  • this made me cry and I still get weeping when i hear this song. I had a crush on bo donaldson.

  • One of the first songs to ever make me cry!!

  • hahhaaaa...i was 13....luved it

  • @mizzstephanie1 i was 10 and sang to it with my hair brush lol

  • You start to get emotional because it's from a day when the artists used to get emotional about their music.

  • My older brother would make fun of me for crying to this song when I was in elementary school...I used to be so sensitive...

And believe it or not, but KC from the Sunshine used to be a stud…true story

  • Not a song to play at your wedding.

  • i feel strongly no one has the right to tell another ''don't be a hero.....freedom is'nt free

    America fk yea

  • with that sparkly gold belt bo donaldson is light weight champion of the world plus a hero

  • i saw billy yankin his willi .that aint no hero

  • @johnnynormous another youtube loser

  • Is he crying??

  • This song was written with the senator in Conn. who said that he was in Vietnam in mind. He was never in the military. He lied yet the morons from Conn. elected him!

  • It's not specifically stated, but this song is probably about the Civil War. There are allusions to "soldier blues" and messages being delivered by a rider. I don't know anyone who thinks that was a senseless war.

  • and you are crazy at least he died to save someone something you would not do

  • djparrish -Realy? Cause it's a song about a guy dying in a senseless war. That makes you laugh. You are one screwed up dude, dude.

  • me too !! cant even listen to seasons in the sun without crying like a baby

  • all of the songs from the 60 and 70 had heart at touched nay of us i know they did me

  • Paper lace did this so much better!

  • I was nine when it came out and I loved it!!

  • Another cheesey song from the year I was 4!! It made me cry back then... now it's just funny!

  • I know you'll like this one. It fits the Lynn-e-poo. Of course, it fits me too.

  • Why is there a picture of that American hating monkey on here?

  • One of the BEST songs ever!!

  • Soldier blues?!? Was he in the union army?

  • This is one of my favorite songs. I can remember hearing it around the 1960's.

  • This group was playing at Busch Gardens in Van Nuys and when I got there they were finished performing....darn

  • This reminds me of my friend in combat, Will. We were in the thick of it, back in 'Nam. When the enemy was close enough, the commanding officer gave the order, "Fire at will! ". So, we shot him. I miss that guy.

  • That BO D. Is cute as Hail~

  • This song was about the Union Army but I can tell you that, because it was bade during the Vietnam era, it had additional gravity even though the battle was ending. So many teens could relate. Many guys and girls shed a lot of tears. Great song relevant to any war situation. I was lucky enough to see Bo and the Heywoods perform this live. Thanks for posting this vid.

  • I heard it somewhere. The words "soldier blues" suggested the Union Army during the Civil War. But after you questioned it I checked the song on Wikipedia and it turns out that the "somewhere" I heard it from was right.

  • 1974? I remember this song vividly, but was that the year?

  • OMG! Check that bulge out on that keyboard player...

  • MUCH better lip scync thanks !!!!

  • If you listen to the words you will understand everyone who has ever been in combat; and everyone who waited for them to come home.

  • Billy was a soldier in the Union army during the Civil War.

  • I still expect John Denver to skip in certain places...

  • @jackiedeckard what?

  • THOSE are some kinda "Threads!"

Awesome...i wish i had the Balls to wear them !

  • @twebb63 ha ha literally!

  • @twebb63 Ahhh, the 70's jumpsuits a la Elvis and The Osmonds. They were indeed the rage!!

  • @virnman Dont forget Evel Knievel

  • @twebb63 those "threads" do bring to mind the partridge family, evil knivel lief garret,...etc

  • @smokeyhaze1000 the Osmonds wore those too and Elvis too

  • @npm0814 yes all the homos of that time wore those dresses.

  • WTF...who dressed these guys?

  • am radio

  • I was pretty young when I discovered this song...that being said...I know all the words.

  • did it really take 7 guys to make this sound though?? And did the "muscled up non-instrument, barely singing blond dude with the abnormally short arms" get an equal paycheck as the rest of the band??

  • gym socks aren't just for wearing on your feet....lol.....

  • these clowns give the 70's a bad name

  • very good voice

  • Why do I always get emotional when I hear this and Seasons in the Sun ?

  • @wilko1999sol ...cus ya got bad taste?

  • @wilko1999sol Seasons in the Sun,terry Jacks reminds me whan my father was murdered in front of my eyes which always makes me tear.Susan Jacks was great too.

  • @stanotter I wish that .. DID NOT .. happen to .. YOU.

  • @wilko1999sol You too huh?? Those two songs were a couple of my favorites growing up in the 70`s

  • last we heard he was selling real estate in California my cousins band was supposed to open for them but they were still in h.s. so my aunt wouldnt let them LOL

  • They should have called themselves "Bo-ner Donaldson and the Hey-Look-At-Our-Woods"......and whats up with the blond Arnold Schwarzenegger dude...who cant seem to move his arms at all?

  • @RockerAce1138 That's funny,but I still like this song.

  • Great song...Civil War ballard!

  • The suits...LoL He must look back at this song and shake his head...LoL How times have changed.

  • Always liked this song...got to meet Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods...all very nice, personable men....

  • My favorite version is Dewey Cox singing it on the special features section of the "Walk Hard" dvd. Must see to appreciate.

  • חחח איזה גייי

  • what a complicated time!!!!!!! some real music came out of this era...born in 70 glad i didnt have to deal with it... the world really sucks... HARMONY!!!!!!!!!! why not ???????

  • I blame Casey Kasem (pop song pusher), for getting me hooked on pop songs.

  • The macho man youngsters joining the military and at the Defense dept need to hear this song!

    (There's no draft)

  • I was 18 when this came out, now I am 39, still........LOL

  • there are many Billy's who went out to serve their country who never came home again, thousands of them!

  • wow where did all the yrs go!!

  • i used to have a jump suit like that in the 70,s did a lot of oil changes in em

  • I believe my older sisters had the 45 of this until I got my 4 year old hands on it and placed it over the heating duct. All I can say is that not only were they unhappy, so was my Mom and Dad. After that, I did not dare touch another vinyl record until I was 8.

  • Love the jump suits...

  • In 8th grade our school won a concert with these guys by writing Carefree gun on 3x5 pieces of paper. They were much cooler than they appear. Caught them burning one behind their bus!!!

  • Great tune about a cold hearted bitch! Billy deserved better.

  • @jimigusa lol

  • @jimigusa yeah, I am just betting she had a better life insurance policy than I do!

  • And you don't want my comments on there?

  • cool 74 when they knew how to dress, tight shiny nylon, and big collars to keep your ears warm. keeping your cigs in the hems of your fairs, yep them were the days !

  • @TheTonyj30 you sucked way too much cock since this song came out.

  • God damn! The 70's groups always wore the lamest costumes! LOL! I remember this tune though! Always liked it... What ever happened to this one hit wonder?

  • I am only 13 and my mom was listening to this song and now i love this songg and lots more of 80's songs.

  • ROFL male camel toe! :D Damn is there any way to unhear this craptacular floating piece of 70's punch bowl turd? It royally sucked to my young ears back then and sucks even more to my old ears now. Comic relief is it's only saving grace...

  • @couchebag

Hyuk! Yuk! Did they all stuff their extra socks down there? I remember cringing when I heard this thing riding the school bus in the mornings.

  • The guy playing 2 pianos (?) at the same time while standing like he don't care is such a BOSS Ô__Ô

  • this was one of the first songs I ever learnt! Love it :) thank you for posting.

  • It's Mark Walberg!!

  • I Love the OUTFITS the men wore back in the day..very sexy - YUM - they all looked umm very well endowed HAHAHAAHA

  • @frevergirl ...lol... had to go back and check out the endowed part and sure enough you're right =D.

  • i still love this song,@i'm a guy,so don'tmake fun of it

  • yah the songs sound great today, and i'm aguy. I still love these sons today

  • Reminds me of Joanne Turpin, the girl I loved at school 1974 - Ermington, Devon, - I've never really recovered, hope it all worked out, Neil.

  • Whoa lookit those Elvis jumpsuits! They're too young to be wearing those.

  • I know too many people this song could apply to for me. :-(

  • omg, i so frikkin OLD! i did this the first time around.....35 yrs ago in HS! aaaak....and it still is the bitchenest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take that you punk kids!

  • dude looks like he has to take a shit

  • I think the song came out in '74 and Donny and Marie didn't start yet, so I think it was Carson or even American Bandstand. I actually do remember seeing this or at least a performance like it, but can't remember where.

  • I'm glad DADT was repealled!

Billy's friend doesn't have to be a closet case anymore... He can be proud, espeically since the fiance threw the letter away!

  • Those collars must have really turned on the women.

  • Wow! What FANTASTIC memories this brings back.

    Thanks so much for posting.

  • @StinkyPubicFatPad It;s obvious you are trying hard to get attention and attempting to be funny. People like you usually have isues with social skills and personaility disorders. Please take your damaged kinks to the real world, get some help and stop with the unfunny shtick! Try being soical online with the Ego / Id problems and need for neg. or pos. attention.

  • My grandma used to listen this when my uncle was away in 'Nam. Thanks for posting!

  • Not as good as the original English version by "Paper Lace" Nottingham Pop group of the 1970's.

  • @zonkozonko Actually, both versions came out at the same time in the United States and the American public voted on which version they liked better. This one won. I remember because I voted.

  • @cherry32959 OK well I suppose you would have and I like to agree with you. One of the members of "Paper Lace" came from my town, our only other claim to music fame was "Cliff Richard" playing his first gig in the Regal Ballroom 50 years ago. So I had to make a stand for a English group!!!!!!

  • @zonkozonko Weel, and Paper Lace ultimately was more successful than the Heywoods, if I am being honest.

  • @cherry32959 Also "Paper Lace" made it across the pond to USA however it was not so for "Bo Donaldson" To Britain.

  • "she was told she should be proud he died that way (a hero)...I heard she threw that letter away".....the military the Real Job to DIE FOR! Like many I was in my youth when this came out, was amongst many of my favorites produced from 50's thru the 70's. A time when music was really altering, uplifting, rejuvenating, mind freeing & our gov't wanted more of us dead. Oh wait....that last part hasn't ever changed. ;) A timeless awesome song ty so much for posting/sharing it w/us...still rocks!!

  • OMG - the memories!!!

  • I grew up with this song thinking it was about Vietnam. Just found out recently it is a song about a civil war soldier... makes sense when you listen to he lyrics.

  • @keylempi Actually, I heard it WAS about the Vietnam War, but they made it seem like it was about the Civil War so as not to create controversy.

  • @cherry32959

But this was 1974 and we'd already left Viet Nam in 1973.

  • @pinz2022 True, but sentiments were still high about the war, and the songwriter actually wrote it (though not performed by anyone yet) earlier while the Viet Nam War was still raging.

  • Wow Does time flyyy! I was a 1974 high school graduate from El Camino High/So.San Francisco, CA. and was real lucky to have been around when all the 70's hits were banging out! Now with the You Tube system, I can now see the video clips and remember the good ol' days! One thing I can't believe is that I'm lucky to be back in love with a sweetheart! Best Wishes to all singles to hook up again!!

  • @orpheumshn You licked my pussy back in 1974 when this song was a huge hit.You were living in El Segundo you told me at the time.

  • wow, look at those outfits! This was my most favorite song when I was around 11 years old.

  • I remember all these songs really well and I just realize I was only 5 when most of them came out! Funny how music sticks with a person for life. I mean ever notice u can hear a song & immediately know where you were, what u were doing etc? Crazy! Oh & lol freakshow771....the clothes are half the fun!

  • @klaritydawn Mostly we heard the songs and seldom saw the videos and I was way more than 5 when this was a new a song!!!

  • @iowaboy151 Lol!!! Shhhh! Ur not supposed to admit your age! Oh wait that's just us chicks, never mind. Yeah I don't remember seeing any of the videos. Maybe on something like Donnie and Marie or The Carson Show, they didn't have MTV that far back did they?? I'm kidding!! lol! Yeah I had a little record player and a bunch of albums. I can remember having to lay a bunch of quarters, nickles to hold the needle down and make it not skip! lmbo!!
