Grow up and stop showing your asses. After over 50 years spent on this planet I still find it hard to believe that some people can continue to be brain-dead, full of shit prejudiced idiots. The styles of the times were the styles of the times just like you see some ink, clothing and absolutely on the other side of sense styles today. I think they're pretty damned stupid as far as taste goes but I don't make any judgement past that. Neither should you. Smell the coffee.
ahh, 1974. roller rinks, puppy love, cleva teidman, those were the days!!! first time i saw you i fell in love cleva.... still remember the sweater you wore....Hays, Ks.....Dave...memba?
The "ethereal cloud cover ... smoldering ... rates ubiquitous '70s' tech-edge ... hysterical ... as it is, despite the tackiness ... nifty and engaging, evocative of an odd emotional admixture", to say the least. Paper Lace, despite their facial make-up, look, at least, like Civil Warriors, no? Which, of course, delivers the song's salient message: right as the Vietnam "War" (it was never legally ie, Constitutionally speaking, a Declared War) came to a close c. 1975; no kidding: 'telling.
@av8tor17b: You SAID IT! Today's NWO re-dux; no -- except, back then, such notions were truly marginalized by the Cult of Hoqua's (pre-neo-cons') dawning of that other aspect of their implemented & deployed Hegelian Dialect: The Age of Aquarius, a so-called "hippie", artfully drug addled, "free love & free thinking sheeple": Billy, sans era's "hippie rock" affectations, rendered all that "song and dance rocker's rock superfluous"; it nailed it out of the humanitarian park, despite its pop-self.
And it was because of THIS crap that a band like The Ramones came into being. Hey it's fine to like some '70s pop rock, but there was the good and then there was....THIS.
@sugarnads O.K., I see. Maybe. It's still god awful though. It's like an even more hideous sounding version of Gary Puckett and The Union Gap (if that's possible). But hey, it became a hit so more power to Bo Donaldon and Co.!
@sugarnads OH PLEASE! Barely stand up on their own? Guess you were one of those back in 1976 who heard them and said, "Hey! They're no Led Zeppelin!" Truly awful? I thought by now EVERYBODY would "get" The Ramones. Those guys took their amateur playing (which advanced into sophisticated playing as they toured constantly through the years) and turned it into something so incredibly solid that no "accomplished" band could replicate it if they tried. Dude, it's time to "get" them.
Why did it take 7 of them to record one of the worst songs to ever disgrace a slab of vinyl? And look at Bo's face when he sings. Half the time he looks like he's smelling a nasty egg & beer fart lol.
@kevjay777 Simply because you don't like his values, doesn't devalue them. There are places for soldiers and for those who stay home in our world. We need both fighters and pacifists. We both grow stronger as a result of each other.
@mousefir Classic example of not knowing what you're commenting on. I checked out okfire65's channel. He & I actually have much in common. I'm an accomplished survivalist, & as a former USCG aviation SAR crewman (rotor & fixed wing) had considerable training & actual real world experience. I made a silly comment about this silly song. He made a bravado personal attack to me. BFD I won't lose any sleep over it.
Now you call me a pacifist because I called him a keyboard commando? That's funny.
@kevjay777 No, I just said the world needs both kinds of people. Glad you guys have so much in common, but I wasn't doing much more than making a general observation about the world. Have a great day.
This song was written with the senator in Conn. who said that he was in Vietnam in mind. He was never in the military. He lied yet the morons from Conn. elected him!
It's not specifically stated, but this song is probably about the Civil War. There are allusions to "soldier blues" and messages being delivered by a rider. I don't know anyone who thinks that was a senseless war.
This reminds me of my friend in combat, Will. We were in the thick of it, back in 'Nam. When the enemy was close enough, the commanding officer gave the order, "Fire at will! ". So, we shot him. I miss that guy.
This song was about the Union Army but I can tell you that, because it was bade during the Vietnam era, it had additional gravity even though the battle was ending. So many teens could relate. Many guys and girls shed a lot of tears. Great song relevant to any war situation. I was lucky enough to see Bo and the Heywoods perform this live. Thanks for posting this vid.
I heard it somewhere. The words "soldier blues" suggested the Union Army during the Civil War. But after you questioned it I checked the song on Wikipedia and it turns out that the "somewhere" I heard it from was right.

I think the song came out in '74 and Donny and Marie didn't start yet, so I think it was Carson or even American Bandstand. I actually do remember seeing this or at least a performance like it, but can't remember where.

My kindest of sirs I must thank you for the posting of this video of these fine young men in their tight crotch bulb inhancement jumpsuits! If only I were a gentle time traveler so to smell the crotch and buttock areas of the jumpsuits!! Now let us fart in unision please much egg smells to you friends to as well now!!
@zonkozonko Actually, both versions came out at the same time in the United States and the American public voted on which version they liked better. This one won. I remember because I voted.
@cherry32959 OK well I suppose you would have and I like to agree with you. One of the members of "Paper Lace" came from my town, our only other claim to music fame was "Cliff Richard" playing his first gig in the Regal Ballroom 50 years ago. So I had to make a stand for a English group!!!!!!
"she was told she should be proud he died that way (a hero)...I heard she threw that letter away".....the military the Real Job to DIE FOR! Like many I was in my youth when this came out, was amongst many of my favorites produced from 50's thru the 70's. A time when music was really altering, uplifting, rejuvenating, mind freeing & our gov't wanted more of us dead. Oh wait....that last part hasn't ever changed. ;) A timeless awesome song ty so much for posting/sharing it w/us...still rocks!!
I grew up with this song thinking it was about Vietnam. Just found out recently it is a song about a civil war soldier... makes sense when you listen to he lyrics.
@pinz2022 True, but sentiments were still high about the war, and the songwriter actually wrote it (though not performed by anyone yet) earlier while the Viet Nam War was still raging.
Wow Does time flyyy! I was a 1974 high school graduate from El Camino High/So.San Francisco, CA. and was real lucky to have been around when all the 70's hits were banging out! Now with the You Tube system, I can now see the video clips and remember the good ol' days! One thing I can't believe is that I'm lucky to be back in love with a sweetheart! Best Wishes to all singles to hook up again!!
I remember all these songs really well and I just realize I was only 5 when most of them came out! Funny how music sticks with a person for life. I mean ever notice u can hear a song & immediately know where you were, what u were doing etc? Crazy! Oh & lol freakshow771....the clothes are half the fun!
@iowaboy151 Lol!!! Shhhh! Ur not supposed to admit your age! Oh wait that's just us chicks, never mind. Yeah I don't remember seeing any of the videos. Maybe on something like Donnie and Marie or The Carson Show, they didn't have MTV that far back did they?? I'm kidding!! lol! Yeah I had a little record player and a bunch of albums. I can remember having to lay a bunch of quarters, nickles to hold the needle down and make it not skip! lmbo!!

I think the song came out in '74 and Donny and Marie didn't start yet, so I think it was Carson or even American Bandstand. I actually do remember seeing this or at least a performance like it, but can't remember where.

He holds the microphone as if it were a cum drizzling weiner, and opens his mouth widely as if to taste as well as smell my ass juices. He teases me with his bulbous crotch pantsuit. I would dry hump it as if it were a stuffed animal. Yes yes my lover I fart now let us befriend each other!!

Not as good as the original English version by "Paper Lace" Nottingham Pop group of the 1970's.
zonkozonko 1 year ago
@zonkozonko Actually, both versions came out at the same time in the United States and the American public voted on which version they liked better. This one won. I remember because I voted.
cherry32959 1 year ago
@cherry32959 OK well I suppose you would have and I like to agree with you. One of the members of "Paper Lace" came from my town, our only other claim to music fame was "Cliff Richard" playing his first gig in the Regal Ballroom 50 years ago. So I had to make a stand for a English group!!!!!!
zonkozonko 1 year ago
@zonkozonko Weel, and Paper Lace ultimately was more successful than the Heywoods, if I am being honest.
cherry32959 1 year ago
@cherry32959 Also "Paper Lace" made it across the pond to USA however it was not so for "Bo Donaldson" To Britain.

Just found out recently it is a song about a civil war soldier... makes sense when you listen to he lyrics.
keylempi 1 year ago
@keylempi Actually, I heard it WAS about the Vietnam War, but they made it seem like it was about the Civil War so as not to create controversy.
cherry32959 1 year ago
@cherry32959
But this was 1974 and we'd already left Viet Nam in 1973.
pinz2022 1 year ago

I can remember having to lay a bunch of quarters, nickles to hold the needle down and make it not skip! lmbo!!
