@DoDeLV Ja. Hieß früher Jazzfest Wiesen, und nunmehr "THE NOVA JAZZ & BLUES NIGHTS". Hat aber mittlerweile nurmehr sehr wenig mit Jazz zu tun... ;-) Infos unter wiesen.at
I was a big fan of the Crusaders, even when they were originally known as the Jazz Crusaders. I have been looking at live clips of performances and I see Joe and Wilton, but what happened to Wayne Henderson (trombones) and Stix Hooper (Drums).
Austrianfunkhunter, the drummer's name is Forrest Robinson. We used to gig together in Atlanta, then he was with India. Arie till a couple years ago. Not sure who the bass player is.....
This is probably one of my all time favorite groups. I love them as well as this tune. I saw them a few years ago when they were touring the US. I would LOVE to see the original quartet together again.
Nils is an outstanding trombonist, but if you want to hear awesome, look no further than Wayne Wallace...They don't have outstanding jazz festivals like this in America anymore, seems like you have to go overseas to catch real music by real musicians like this. And the radio stations here have all but forgotten the likes of Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, and a host of artists such as they that have made contemporary jazz an enduring symbol of artistic freedom.
get the live set at the Roxy in LA, titled 'SCRATCH', when Wayne Henderson was still on trombone. They close the album with this and it's one of my all-time favorites...Wilton Felder's chops aren't as faded as they are on this...
You are so right - I love his introduction of everybody. I downloaded Way Back Home a while back- just gives me the chills listening to it. The song and group are just so genuine!

IS there a website for the Wiesen Jazz fest, I can't find it.
I've been performing a few of the Jazz blues fests in Austria, and would like to connect with them
thanks

Wayne Henderson is with The Jazz Crusaders. These are 2 completely separate groups.

Read Wikipedia (and stop your nonsence!):
"Henderson first played regularly with Felder, Joe Sample and Stix Hooper in Houston in the mid-'50s.
By the time they moved to Los Angeles and started recording in 1961 they were known as the Jazz Crusaders.
After many records for Pacific Jazz, the group in 1971 changed their name to the Crusaders.
With Henderson's decision to quit the band in 1975, the Crusaders lost a great deal of their originality."
