  • MIL FELICIDADEZ AMIGO. KE GRAN TRABAJO.

LO APLICARE A MIS NIÑOS DE KINDER

  • I came up with the idea to make it all out of tinfoil but I am not really sure it will work because it can let water through LoL

  • build a larger boat and add more motors (bad ass) gosh i miss my childhood , i used to play with these

  • how does it makes the pop pop sound? pleasy reply

  • @MrHalootjes

The sound comes from the membrane that I welded on the boiler. The working process of a pop-pop boat is based of pulsations. The water is admitted in the boiler and because the temperature here is hight, it is expulsed out the pipes and then admitted again... That give successive pressures and depressions, moving the membrane. See again the video when I test the membrane with the mouth. You will hear the caracteristic sound.

  • @MrPatnico owh, so its just like you press a piece of the can the whole time

  • @MrPatnico but you only have 1 tube folded in it?? I don't understand srry if I look a bit stupid now xD

  • @MrPatnico Výborně. Vzpoměl jsem si na své mládí,kdy jsem měl takovou hračku.Prodávala se. To je ale před 50ti lety. Dnes to stavím nejmladšímu vnukovi

  • Does the can have to be Iron

  • @netherregens69

For the boiler, the best is iron. Iron is easy to sold with DYS tools. Aluminium is much more difficult to sold and need expensive tools. The tin box that I use for the roof and the burner is in aluminium. I use epoxy glue with it. The maximal service temperature for epoxy glue is 100°C and that is enough for the roof but not for the boiler.

  • thanks,,,

    serviume de moita axuda,,,

    para tecnnología,,,

  • @laurarebollido Moitas grazas polo seu comentario

  • solder isnt going to hold though

  • muito legal, otimo vou fazer um tambem, obrigado!

  • excelente tu video y excelente tu trabajo, muy bien hecho!!!

  • @21reflexiones2011 muchas gracias

  • amaaaaaaaaaaazing

  • Yes I use epoxy for the roof, but not for the boiler : Temperature too hight.

  • it must be possible to two-component-epoxy-glue the parts togheter, right?

  • @maxpower700 glue ALL* the parts?

  • @maxpower700

    eing,,,

  • I can't find iorn cans !

    most now adays are aluminum

  • @AstroTrainboy1174

Tries with a magnet in the spokes of a grocery. Some cans are in iron.

  • although I perfer science toy makers boat,it is cool

  • That's awesome.

  • does it have to be a brass tube can i use a straw instead

  • @ad51hy

I do not see how you could weld the straw to the boiler. You can find the brass tube in stores for radio control models or in hardware stores. If you can not find a small brass tube, try to find a metal tube brake car.

  • @ad51hy

    fálame en cristiano ppor favor,,,

  • Can I also solder the exhaust and the cabine parts to the base?

  • @lakloplak

    Yes, it will work

  • a question, i can use a aluminum boat?

  • @batakasthedrummer

Yes, you can use aluminium for all the boat except the boiler. For the boiler, the best is iron. Iron is easy to sold with DYS tools. Aluminium is much more difficult to sold and need expensive tools. The tin box that I use for the roof and the burner is in aluminium. I use epoxy glue with it. The maximal service temperature for epoxy glue is 100°C and that is not enough for the boiler. I tried silicone for the boiler but I was not satisfied.

  • thank you for making the boat and toutorial and sharing with us ;)

  • i guessing thats how steam engines came to the world

  • Great video buddy !! Thanks very much for sharing !!

  • Just love it. i will have a go at making one. for the boy!. lol

  • never seen one made like this before.. bravo.. would a steam engine be similar design?

  • @phunkyphantom619

Thanks for your comments. Saying steam engine, mind a more complex design with piston, cylinder, steam distributor, crankshaft...Much efficient but not so easy to build.

  • @phunkyphantom619 I was going to build a model steam engine and have blue prints, its easy long as you have a local hobby store with the parts. However when making a boiler it can be quite dangerous. Weak boilers explode if pressure builds up too much.

  • @LivingInEnvy

That's right ! It is the raison why every commercial steam machine boiler have a security valve fitted on it.

  • Thanks its great!

  • C'est vraiment intérressant :)

  • @MicGoo101 Merci !

  • i used to have one of those as a kid,ive got to build one now ,many thanks great video,....

  • @TheVinnie528

This is an interesting experience. A little emotion as when we saw that when a child and many years later you hear the first beats of a toy that you just built. Something alive. Hope you will feel that.

  • très bien expliqué merci !

  • @jazz44119

  • Thanks mr patinico

  • Can u use a copper pipe instead of brass please reply

  • @Gapcoproductions1

    Yes, copper is very good

  • Hi Buddy - really great video. Has inspired me to make my own, got almost everything but the brass pipes and non aluminium cans are proving a bit hard to locate. Do you have the tubing dimensions handy? I know it doesn't have to be exactly what you used but as I'll be buying the tubing off the web most likely, the size would be really helpful. Thanks again.

  • @jigmesam aah, nevermind mate. Looks like it's 4mm or 1/8th brass tubing. Thx

  • @jigmesam

    Hi teacher :o)

Thank you for your comment. Experience shows that there is a ratio between the inside diameter and length of the pipe. If the ratio is not good, operation is not stable. A larger pipe requires a greater length. The tube used in the video has an internal diameter of 3 mm and an outer diameter of 4 mm. These dimensions are consistent with the length of the boat and the tube is easy to shape. Hope to be useful.

  • will it go straight ?

  • Cool I can't wait to make make one electricity is old fire is where it's at

  • @Gapcoproductions1 No not really. Electricity can kill someone faster than fire.

  • One more thing what is that paste that you used before soldering?

  • @Ileikdrumzz

It is a cleaner that improves the welding. You can buy it in the same place you buy the plombing solder. Whithout this paste, welding is much more difficult

  • Can I use an aluminum can instead of iorn?

  • @Ileikdrumzz

Yes. But the problem will be how to build the boiler. Iron is easy to sold. Aluminium is very difficult to sold and need expansive tools. Glue is not temperature resistant and can't work for that. I suggest you find something in iron (tin)

  • i am going to try to make a version of this that only uses epoxy as welds and straws as tubes, wish me luck!

  • @BocajBinLadin

    Tell us about

  • @AjsNigrutinSRB

Yes of course. You should know just the following. If the volume is lower, the beats are faster and the boat too. Thus, if the volume cap is small, you'll maybe have a racer :o)

  • El Mejor vídeo de construcción de botrd pof pof.

    Gracias por subirlo!!!!!

  • where can I get that tube ?

  • @snguyen238

In many countries, there are these tubes in hardware (DIY) stores or in stores for the model building. These tubes are used in the boat modelling. Some people use car brake tubes. I hope you find something. The exact size is not very important.

  • I found a Damon tray in the garbage it happens to be tin it is a little bit shallow than the one you are using.

  • @Noah12278

This may be good. If the volume of the boiler is lower, the pulse will be faster and the boat too.

  • You rock.

  • Super !

    merci beaucoup

    Michel ( Bloooo.fr )

  • You also drew 2 other stripes on the brass pipe. Where should the lines be?

  • @MyWampie

Good question. The 2 other stripes are for the position of the bending. So I heat the pipe with the torch only at the right place. The rest of the pipe stay right.

  • hi. i used electronic solder for my pop pop boat i was wondering will it melt straight away when heated with a candle. thankyou and great video by the way.

  • @lido279

Many thanks. The temperature range is actually quite narrow. Be careful not to overheat the boiler. Do not use alcohol. The temperature is too high with this product. It should not be a problem with a candle or olive oil.

  • @MrPatnico ok thanks the engine works great also do you know anything else i can make with the left over brass tubing

  • @lido279

Another pop-pop for somebody that is not skillfull like you :o)

  • @Razanosx

Many thanks for all your comments. They really touch me.

  • Great Effort. Well described, Congratulations. Jackel

  • Thanks for your video.

doesn't work lead-free solder? would be better for children

    greetings from germany

  • @ChrischHH1

Lead-free solder is the best because it melts at a higher temperature. This makes the boiler more resilient in case of overheating. Frohes neues Jahr-Feier.

  • I SPLIT MY FINGER DRILING TWO HOLES

  • @rockerruck Derp :P

  • I WAS DRILING TWO HOLES AND I SPLIT MY SELF WHEN THE DRILL WENT IN

  • ... es una manera definitiva y eficaz de fabricar un pop pop boat en casa, enhorabuena y gracias por el vídeo.

  • make more vids its cool

  • In the moment for me iys not possibile to' build my boat, only in the new bear,so i wish all you a Merry Christmas and hippy New Year

  • @Skypperdog

Merci. Bonne fêtes aussi à vous et à votre famille. Bonne année 2012 avec beaucoup de petits bateaux.

  • I wish I had these supplies :p I want a boat now.

  • molto bello bravo!

  • @ZARMITINA

    Grazie. Buon Natale

  • What if I wanted to install a 3rd copper pipe? Would it run any faster or would it not work at all?

  • @Tennesseecentral6902

That's a good question. I never tried that. I expect it will run faster. If you mlake this experimentation, please give us a report.

  • can i use epxy instead of solder ?

  • @vietnamisalv

Sorry, epoxy will burn. You can try with silicone paste. If you find special hight temperature silicone, that's more better. Look at the engine parts dealer. Hope that help you.

  • @MrPatnico thanks

  • @MrPatnico do you have to use iron cans

  • Thanks

  • Search by tubourg beer the iron can because i find it in Italy and goo

  • @Skypperdog

    Thanks for the information

  • I can't find a iron can can I use aluminum can?

  • @PinkRocksSoSuckIt

As says Skypperdog, some beer cans are in iron. If there is no iron can in your country, try to find a small iron box with about the same dimensions. You can't solder aluminium easely.

  • Essaieras-tu jamais un plus grand pop-pop bateau??

  • @kirbymaster555

Il paraît que lorsqu'on le fait en grand, ça ne marche pas. C'est le genre d'affirmation qui m'excite énormément (y a pas que ça qui m'excite, mais passons.) Donc effectivement, je vais certainement essayer un jour. ;o)

  • how long does run for on one fill?

  • @spasmatrass

The capacity of the burner used in the video is about 1 cc and the boat runs for about 5 minutes.

  • does it matter what kind of metal it is?

  • @ylpizra

It's no matter for the boat and his roof because all the parts are glued. But the boiler and the pipes need to be assembled with soft solder (plumbing solder in fact.) So the boiler comes from an iron can (no aluminium.) It is the reason why I make the test in the video, with a magnet. Magnet attract the iron but not the aluminium. Hope this help you. • were can i get a tin soda pop can

  • @vasiliyveremchuk

In Europe, cans are made either in aluminium or tin depending of the brand. There no reason for existing a difference in your country. I suggest to you to make some tests in your local grocerie with a magnet. Hope you will find your happiness.

  • oooo como mola

  • @as23as1000

    Gracias

  • love your engine its veary nice.

  • @undeadAIRONKID

    Many thanks :o)

  • does it have to be an iron can? and can i just use epoxy to glue the whole thing instead of soldering it?

  • @STREETRAT211

I tried that. but the epoxy adhesive is not sufficiently resistant to heat. You can also try with silicone sealant. But it does not work for long.

  • @MrPatnico so would the solder stick to an aluminum can or does it have to he iron?

  • @MrPatnico 5Tanks for the help man but i have no idea where to get a tin soda can

  • @STREETRAT211

Sorry, I forgot a part of your question. It is easy to found and use soft solder for plumbing. This solder can be used for welding copper or tin but not for aluminum. It is this solder that I use in the video. That's why I chose a can of tin (iron). It is possible to weld aluminium, but tools and solder are expensive and are difficult to use for a DYS people. Hope I help you.

  • the roof must be optional

  • @gtaroblox101

Yes, you can build it in "drop head coupe" version. However, more seriously, I noticed that the flame is more stable when it is protected with a roof. And maybe more cute.

  • @MrPatnico oh. ok

  • Genio.Wonderfull.Good job

  • Ok after the build of the pop pop boat i will send the cideo of his navigation of the ceresio lake

  • I think that i will build the first pop pop boat in switzerland, many tks very good explaned

  • @Skypperdog

Merci pour votre commentaire. And maybe the first pop pop boat crossing the Geneva lake :o)

  • super cool to watch you build it ! (;

    thanks

  • do more cool vidos!

  • thanks !

  • can you use stras isted of brass i dong got that

  • @MrRacerhacker

You can use any material that is compatible with soft welding : brass, cupper, iron, ...

  • My pipe exploded, the water was too hot and prudced so much force that the pipe cracked.

  • @Defaultbomb11

    It is a power-full pop-pop.

  • @Defaultbomb11 bull :P

  • when you filed the bottom of the can my jaw groped

  • @MegaRallycar

To avoid this, you can take the can in a basin full of water. I too am sensitive to certain sounds. For example, I do not like go to the dentist...

  • Carry magnet into grocery to find the right cans. Using nut and string is genius!

  • @birdwing98

It is a very strange new fashion. Around the world, people are walking in grocery stores with a magnet in the hand.

    :o)

  • thank you , now i have a tin popop boat :D and i am having fun with it :D

  • @GlyGlue

    Congratulation !

I did the video with this goal. I'm very happy for you.

  • Ok thanks

  • What soda can did you USe?

  • @Noah12278

I make my boats with the cans that I find. The only condition is that the can be tin (iron) to be welded easily. In the video, I use a can of Orangina that I found actually in the trash.

  • A thing of true beauty. Thank you for sharing.

  • @TweezerAddict

Many thanks for all your comments.

  • GREAT JOB!! Now iv´e got a perfect chrismas present for my bambino..:)

  • I went to my grocery store tonight and I did not find a single iron soft drink can. Since I forgot a magnet I borrowed one from the kitchen aisle! Unfortunately, the canned fish, in the USA, is packaged in shallow containers? Hopefully, the "hull" won't take on water! I did find magnetic instant coffee containers: International Foods. But, even those containers are now molded in plastic, instead! May need to go to an import store to find better materials. Bon appetit!

  • @FourDollaRacing

In France, many cans are aluminum. A small amount is of tin.

I know this is a problem to find tin cans in cetain country. It is unfortunate that we are so far away. I would have gladly offered a beer ;o)

  • @MrPatnico Thank you. I went to my grocer, again, and found a candy called La Vie La VosGienne BonBons, from CadBury/France. The candy tin is magnetic and shaped like a boiler.

    Beer sounds good, too. Salute!

  • How does it work nice job I did it for a science project I got An a pluse

  • @sirmrfisherman6

Thank you everybody for watching my video

  • Excellent demonstration! thank you so much!!!

  • Such a great video, well done :D

  • A very inspiring demonstration. I have tried to make a put put boat several times but I found the heat from the night light undid soft soldered vibrating membrane of the motor. I even tried silver soldering it, but that was so intense it melted the membrane. Any way, as Mr. Micawber said, something will turn up. And I think it may well have done so in your video. Thank you.

  • @bbcisrubbish :

Some advices. First, the soft soldering is the best way for tin can but it is better to use plombing lead free soldering because it melts at higher temperature than electronic one. Then, beware do not overheating the boiler : Always be sure there is water in the boiler before to put the burner in place, use only small birthday candles or olive oil. Never use other kind of oil or alcool. If the boat stops to pulse, immediatly blow out the flame before the soldering melting.

  • thanks for the video !!!!!!!

the childs of today must to see how this amazing toy works!!!!!

  • what a strange but fun thing to do. nice

  • yours is one of the best i have seen any one make yet. great job

  • this is amazing... i kno what im doing tonight

  • Excellent demonstration! Thanks for uploading.

  • @quebeckromeovictor

Many thanks for all your kind comments.

  • dua tao dien thoai cua may

  • is it pronounced pop-op , po-pop, or pop-pop? and and nice vid thumbs up

  • @Zombi3Bwans

As you like. Sometime you can either read "put-put" or "peut-peut". Just listen to the video and tries to make the same sound with your mouth and you will be right ;-)

  • THIS IS SO COOL! I'm going to try it as soon as I have time to buy the parts XD

  • @SquirrelyBee

Thank you all for your ideas and comments. They really touches me :o))

  • you could also add little lights for night. =)

  • ....essa aula sim, mostra legal...

  • where do you live that have the cans made of iron :O??

  • this is awesome
