Vary arodynamic, and for a less price you got a car that was just as high performance if not more compared to the corvette of that time. Yes dude, I know.. the Sy, Ty and Buick GN were the best vehicles GM ever offered in my opinion and I'm more than aware of their potential. Awesome tunability with both the 3.8 and the 4.3.. Absolutely awesome hp with smaller, more economical displacement is the way to go, why we aren't doing this now is beside me... However, my point still remains, there is no way a stock Sy would take a 10yr newer Turbo 911 down the 1/4... the physics "power/weight ratio" just wouldn't let it happen. Period.

To be fair, the Syclone is never going to hang with that Porsche around a track. GMC touted a "performance" suspension, but I've ridden in two Syclones, and it's fairly obvious that they're stiff, but not very well tuned. Hell, it's a pickup truck. All the weight is in the front. They're incredible in a straight line though.

I think that's really the core of it. They're two different tools for two different purposes. IMO, taking a 911 Turbo to a drag strip is kind of asking to get shown up. There are plenty of F-bodies floating around that would spank its behind as well.

If your looking at GMC factory numbers for a sy, that is the same mistake everyone always makes. The sy stands on its own, because it has no history like the 911or vett. GMC created the Sy for only one purpose...to create an Image for GMC truck. Often imitated but never matched(price/perform)the #1 Car Company GM showed the world they could engineer something that no company will ever be able to match.

I have run 02 and 05 porshe 911 turbos (13.0-10.3sec) and they are fast... but the sysclone is way more consistant with the boost cranked, the right spring setup stock BW trans/AWD. Seriouly like it's stock...STFU Posche owners are doctors/dentist and assholes..(like me).. they rarely alter them.. I would bet less and 5% of porche owners (ever) could get or have got the full performance out of ther car at any time.

stock boost on a syclone is 15psi. you need to tighten up the wastegate, install a chip or a boost controller to "crank the boost".
None of which were done at the time of this race.

Secondly, apparently you aren't aware that there are other races besides your own. It'd be much more likely to find someone of a minority in a far cheaper Chevrolet/GMC than a Porsche. Yes dude, I know.. the Sy, Ty and Buick GN were the best vehicles GM ever offered in my opinion and I'm more than aware of their potential. Awesome tunability with both the 3.8 and the 4.3.. Absolutely awesome hp with smaller, more economical displacement is the way to go, why we aren't doing this now is beside me... However, my point still remains, there is no way a stock Sy would take a 10yr newer Turbo 911 down the 1/4... the physics "power/weight ratio" just wouldn't let it happen. Period.

makes me sad that i dont remember the Sy and barely remember the T :/ but yes these engines when tuned are beasts im thinking about turboing my '96 s10 with the 4.3 and hoping to get a glimpse of what the Sy was like.

Well no shit the Porsche would set faster lap times, that's what it was built for genius. The Syclone is based off an S-10 pickup, a truck built for a PURPOSE, not a fucking track. And the fact that it wasn't a racing-bred vehicle (look at the lineage of it, my s-10 blazer I use for off-roading) that costs about as much as some accessories on the Porsche just means that the Syclone is far more impressive.

To be fair, the Syclone is never going to hang with that Porsche around a track. GMC touted a "performance" suspension, but I've ridden in two Syclones, and it's fairly obvious that they're stiff, but not very well tuned. Hell, it's a pickup truck. All the weight is in the front. They're incredible in a straight line though.

If your looking at GMC factory numbers for a sy, that is the same mistake everyone always makes. The sy stands on its own, because it has no history like the 911or vett. GMC created the Sy for only one purpose...to create an Image for GMC truck. Often imitated but never matched(price/perform)the #1 Car Company GM showed the world they could engineer something that no company will ever be able to match.
