Jewel was awful. I've never liked her music or her voice. Jeffrey... he's a great writer, but there's a reason that he's not a famous single artist because he's awkward on stage... John Rich was pretty good - I can't wait for his new album coming out in January.
Okay maybe Jewel didn't sound good here, but there's no need to diss her for god sake. If you watch other live performances of her, you might realise she has one of the most amazing voices ever!
Jewel sucks at country. I think it was a disgrace to allow someone that has never been a country singer to be a judge on Nashville Star. I agree...they must have meant Nashville, CA. It isn't even worthy of Nashville, ARKANSAS...

- gotta agree; maybe he doesn't have the Definitive Voice of Gold, but he DOES have a Voice, f'sure!!! AND he knows how to use it!...i'm just sayin'; credit where due (& BTW it's not a matter of OPINION whether or not he can sing 'cause he CAN - & so that's a fact that's that!!)

I think a lot of people agree w/you about Jewel's 'credentials' as a Country Singer...but she HAS been an insightful Judge - despite some lapses (most of the variety best described as starting w/the word 'B' - AHEM!!!) - & a hardworking Coach ('Mentor') who has brought the talent along nicely = ergo, i don't see how you can say she shouldn't be...based on results, i'd say, she's qualified. Is there really any better way to quality? Others 'more Country' than she might not have done s'well...
I agree, she was horrible...... I especially hate how she dogged that poor young girl of
Sophie. She disrespected her on national tv first. Sophie was just responding like any normal 16 yr old when she rolled her eyes. Jewel is lucky she didn't get cussed out....
I do sooo DIG the way Melissa's husband stands by and supports her - it's soooo moving to see he's 100 % behind her/rooting for her to accomplish what she's tryin' 4 - her biggest fan...SO rare to see in a man (wish i'd found one like that - LOL - still lookin'!!!) + i thought her rendition of 'Jesus, take the wheel' was v. strong.
Still not sold on Gabe's performing, tho' - agree with JS that he has a GREAT 'radio all the way' voice, so i'm guessing he has excellent potential for record sales
Looks like we all agree the godawful medley-thang was godawful; and if it weren't so 'late in the day' (i.e. only just over a week away), i'd suggest we all bombard NBC with requests or even a petition that the judges be brought back on stage for the Grand Finale show 2 perform a 'proper' song...next 2 the finalists singing THEIR original songs - now THAT would be a show worth watching, right?

Since when is Jewel Country?? Ummm OK... I guess she's gotta be something. I couldn't believe her performance of foolish games.. the end crackled like static on a transistor radio. I couldn't believe she would be SO rude as to try to quiet the applause for Melissa so she could speak. Jewel a Judge? On a Country music show? I don't think so.

...BUT in Jewel's defense (& indeed ANY of the judges who've done it - & they ALL have...) tho' it looks godawful when one of the tries to quiet the applause for a contestant, they're ONLY doing it b/c they're responding to the LIVE TV PROMPTER 'greenlighting' them to 'go'!!!! It aint fair - not by far - b/c it makes THEM look mean/bad. Hate it 2!!! From 2 hrs to 1, the show's b/c TOO RUSHED!
It is rushed.. I don't watch Idol.. is it rushed like that too, where they cut the song down to like a minute?? it ruins the songs.. I personally don't enjoy it musically.. I watch it for pure entertainment.. that's why my focus is on other things... LOL!!! My ears are completely "shut off" to it!

But they DO cut the songs down to a minute on AI, 2 - and i hate it, as U do, 2; it's a strain on the singer/performer tryin' to 'bring it within a minute'+a total travesty of the song which is essentially being butchered...as songs are butchered into elevator 'muzak'...or cut in2 tiny bites 4 commercials:YUK!!!

OK so we've agreed that it's a total cop-out how these TV shows which pupport 2 support & promote Music basically have little or no RESPECT for the music - or musicians - they R supposedly showcasing & building the whole show around, right?! I think it's a disgrace...i mean, not asking for PBS' Austin City Limits (which admittedly DOES get a bit yawny for TV - 4 me, anyway!) but even so: NS was supposed to be DIFFERENT!
What the hell is wrongt with Jewel's voice lately. I used to lover her but the other night she sounded like a wounded cat. Even Laura and Sophie and Allison (crazy eyes) Gilbert were better than her. Who is she to tell performers they cannot sing when the other night she was just terrible?
not to defend jewell or anything... but jeez... cut her some slack... we all know she's a great singer.. see her videos.. yeah her live ones.. maybe she's coming down with a virus/bronchitis, swollen vocal chords.. sounds like it to me.. she went high to avoid that sour note her voice hit I think..
The way i see it, it was a case of 'what goes around, comes around'...she'd been so awful to Sophie & Laura, bitchy to many others, too, played the PrimaDonna card umptten times/being a real Queenie...heck, she'd built herself up SO high, set a standard 4 herself in those few crucial live TV seconds which she then failed...spectacularly...showing us she's not such a Wonder woman after all...so it's a painful experience, yes, but it counteracts her own very recent behaviour, dontcha think?
Well I know whenever I'm being a bit of a bitch.. it always comes back to bite and remind me that it's not acceptable.. no.. I've even stubbed my toe a few times... ouch..

I think you're being kind...no way would she have sung if she'd had a cold or bronchitis brewin' - NO way (and neither would i, BTW - those are bonafide reasons NOT to!!). It was the ol' 'bite back by what goes around..', i reckon!!! Tough one for her...bitter pill, definitely. But didn't she dole out an awful lot of bitter pills herself?? To people in much less powerful positions than she holds?

OK so here's the thing; 'context' is incredibly important 4 EVERY action - 0 can be assessed or judged fairly or even accurately without it...e.g., every soldier deemed a hero would be deemed a villain 4 taking lives WITHOUT that ALL-IMPORTANT context of war=fighting the designated enemy...INTENTIONS mean more than 'Actions'..sadly, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions!!!

Problem is those camera folk @ NBC haven't managed to figure out a colour correction on blue eyes!!! - Jewel has beautiful blue/greeny eyes, & JS's are very pale blue - but the TV here washes 'em both out to a light brown...brown is boring (in eyes, & shirts!!- nah i take it back, brown eyes R great but not THAT shade!!)

I agree w/you that Coffey's an 'artiste of the future', i.e. the genre-blending future; i know we've been talking about this phenom lately and the more we did, the more i could see that tho' he'd make a good M/C or similar Media career, he actually has those elements of genre-blending which as U say are not full-on Country...but that's OK, 'cause it's the face of the future - U see it more clearly than i do b/c i'm a bit of a fuddy-duddy Classicist!!!

What offended me FAR more than their disrespectin' Jewel was their patent lack of talent!!! HOW they got selected 2 appear on this show is a mystery 2 moi haha!!!

Yeah she totally let herself down; i 2 can confirm she really IS a gifted songwriter and talented performer with a very good voice...but she sure as heck DIDN'T show it here...proving we're ALL human - and even the Pros don't get it right every single time (though after all the practice she's had, and all the critiquing she's done lately, you'd expect her to, wouldn't you?!)

Jewel was godawful beyond bad - but then she was first up; JS struggled manfully w/ task in hand but the camera angle butchered him BIG time...so that left JR 2 come in last & sound OK 'cause he had their back-up & the 'stage was warm' -WHAT grandstanding!! Hated it...only good it did was to remind America what the judges r famous FOR!
they should have opened for Jewel. Her songs are recordbreaking. I've never heard the others but maybe once each.

Jewel sucks at country. I think it was a disgrace to allow someone that has never been a country singer to be a judge on Nashville Star. I agree...they must have meant Nashville, CA. It isn't even worthy of Nashville, ARKANSAS...

I think a lot of people agree w/you about Jewel's 'credentials' as a Country Singer...but she HAS been an insightful Judge - despite some lapses (most of the variety best described as starting w/the word 'B' - AHEM!!!) - & a hardworking Coach ('Mentor') who has brought the talent along nicely = ergo, i don't see how you can say she shouldn't be...based on results, i'd say, she's qualified. Is there really any better way to quality? Others 'more Country' than she might not have done s'well...

I agree, she was horrible...... I especially hate how she dogged that poor young girl of
Sophie. She disrespected her on national tv first. Sophie was just responding like any normal 16 yr old when she rolled her eyes. Jewel is lucky she didn't get cussed out....

I do sooo DIG the way Melissa's husband stands by and supports her - it's soooo moving to see he's 100 % behind her/rooting for her to accomplish what she's tryin' 4 - her biggest fan...SO rare to see in a man (wish i'd found one like that - LOL - still lookin'!!!) + i thought her rendition of 'Jesus, take the wheel' was v. strong.
Still not sold on Gabe's performing, tho' - agree with JS that he has a GREAT 'radio all the way' voice, so i'm guessing he has excellent potential for record sales

Looks like we all agree the godawful medley-thang was godawful; and if it weren't so 'late in the day' (i.e. only just over a week away), i'd suggest we all bombard NBC with requests or even a petition that the judges be brought back on stage for the Grand Finale show 2 perform a 'proper' song...next 2 the finalists singing THEIR original songs - now THAT would be a show worth watching, right?

As is, i guess the thang's cast-in-stone & so it'll probably be 'medleys all the way' for all...!!

Since when is Jewel Country?? Ummm OK... I guess she's gotta be something. I couldn't believe her performance of foolish games.. the end crackled like static on a transistor radio. I couldn't believe she would be SO rude as to try to quiet the applause for Melissa so she could speak. Jewel a Judge? On a Country music show? I don't think so.

...BUT in Jewel's defense (& indeed ANY of the judges who've done it - & they ALL have...) tho' it looks godawful when one of the tries to quiet the applause for a contestant, they're ONLY doing it b/c they're responding to the LIVE TV PROMPTER 'greenlighting' them to 'go'!!!! It aint fair - not by far - b/c it makes THEM look mean/bad. Hate it 2!!! From 2 hrs to 1, the show's b/c TOO RUSHED!

It is rushed.. I don't watch Idol.. is it rushed like that too, where they cut the song down to like a minute?? it ruins the songs.. I personally don't enjoy it musically.. I watch it for pure entertainment.. that's why my focus is on other things... LOL!!! My ears are completely "shut off" to it!

But they DO cut the songs down to a minute on AI, 2 - and i hate it, as U do, 2; it's a strain on the singer/performer tryin' to 'bring it within a minute'+a total travesty of the song which is essentially being butchered...as songs are butchered into elevator 'muzak'...or cut in2 tiny bites 4 commercials:YUK!!!

OK so we've agreed that it's a total cop-out how these TV shows which pupport 2 support & promote Music basically have little or no RESPECT for the music - or musicians - they R supposedly showcasing & building the whole show around, right?! I think it's a disgrace...i mean, not asking for PBS' Austin City Limits (which admittedly DOES get a bit yawny for TV - 4 me, anyway!) but even so: NS was supposed to be DIFFERENT!

What the hell is wrongt with Jewel's voice lately. I used to lover her but the other night she sounded like a wounded cat. Even Laura and Sophie and Allison (crazy eyes) Gilbert were better than her. Who is she to tell performers they cannot sing when the other night she was just terrible?

The way i see it, it was a case of 'what goes around, comes around'...she'd been so awful to Sophie & Laura, bitchy to many others, too, played the PrimaDonna card umptten times/being a real Queenie...heck, she'd built herself up SO high, set a standard 4 herself in those few crucial live TV seconds which she then failed...spectacularly...showing us she's not such a Wonder woman after all...so it's a painful experience, yes, but it counteracts her own very recent behaviour, dontcha think?

I think you're being kind...no way would she have sung if she'd had a cold or bronchitis brewin' - NO way (and neither would i, BTW - those are bonafide reasons NOT to!!). It was the ol' 'bite back by what goes around..', i reckon!!! Tough one for her...bitter pill, definitely. But didn't she dole out an awful lot of bitter pills herself?? To people in much less powerful positions than she holds?
- fortunately, she has a genuinely generous and sweet side, so she'll survive this fiasco!!!

OK just stopped giggling long enough to say something i DO want 2 say about the shirts; JS shouldn't wear a black one, b/c Rich ALWAYS DOES (SO '70s/disco + so gay!! - heh heh NOT that there's anything WRONG WITH THAT...not by me, anyway...). He should wear that smokin' white one, for contrast - or go 'all out' and wear one that's red or orange (colours which totally suit him, being blonde, anyway)...or one of those gorgeous deep blue ones which were 'in' a few years back - d'you remember them?

Problem is those camera folk @ NBC haven't managed to figure out a colour correction on blue eyes!!! - Jewel has beautiful blue/greeny eyes, & JS's are very pale blue - but the TV here washes 'em both out to a light brown...brown is boring (in eyes, & shirts!!- nah i take it back, brown eyes R great but not THAT shade!!)

I agree w/you that Coffey's an 'artiste of the future', i.e. the genre-blending future; i know we've been talking about this phenom lately and the more we did, the more i could see that tho' he'd make a good M/C or similar Media career, he actually has those elements of genre-blending which as U say are not full-on Country...but that's OK, 'cause it's the face of the future - U see it more clearly than i do b/c i'm a bit of a fuddy-duddy Classicist!!!

WOW!!!!!!! That IS news...'ballsy', indeed - i have never seen her with short hair (has anyone??), it's been the same (so far as i'm aware) all her adult life - well, i look forward to seeing!! Shawn almost like a different person - fantastic, confident (loved that shade of orange she was wearing!!) - JS did a wonderful job w/her...tad ominous to say ''b/c it might be your last"?...p'haps he was attempting to 'keep her humble' for her own good?
Coffey did a great job - i love that song he sung!! - you were right about him, i think!

Thanx for the compliment....but it WON'T WASH = FLATTERY WON'T GET U OFF THE HOOK (hey - we're NOT in Nashville, remember??!!)...there isn't anything i've said in response to what you've just posted that's too difficult for anyone with even 'just' an average intellect to understand....all U have to do is PAY ATTENTION 2 what i'm saying...that's it!! That's USUALLY 'it'...in, like, 89% of all cases of miscommunications - duh!!

= they coulda/shoulda been cut SOME slack - particularly on National primetime TV, which 2 of the judges had had plenty of experience appearing on, whereas 4 these 2 girls, it was all a 1st (& i strongly suspect, 'only'!) time...

What offended me FAR more than their disrespectin' Jewel was their patent lack of talent!!! HOW they got selected 2 appear on this show is a mystery 2 moi haha!!!

She's also shown her sweet and constructive side during this show - but this big ol' 'faux pas' should remind her 2 focus more on THAT side of herself instead of playing/being Queen Bee PrimaDonna Diva....'what goes around, comes around' always applies...just in Jewel's case, it came around pretty quick!!!

Yeah she totally let herself down; i 2 can confirm she really IS a gifted songwriter and talented performer with a very good voice...but she sure as heck DIDN'T show it here...proving we're ALL human - and even the Pros don't get it right every single time (though after all the practice she's had, and all the critiquing she's done lately, you'd expect her to, wouldn't you?!)

I luv JS, he's own shows and videos are much better.. this isn't him at all. Thought JR did the best, but he was last too... and he was more spotlighted.. I don't really care for the medleys.. too little.. would rather have a complete song. But I'm sure it was meant to showcase as much of what they do..

...jeez - i'm with U...the whole medley idea was utterly attrocious!!!!! Who the hell thought this old chesnut up - i mean what IS this, the Ed Sullivan show??! Jewel was godawful beyond bad - but then she was first up; JS struggled manfully w/ task in hand but the camera angle butchered him BIG time...so that left JR 2 come in last & sound OK 'cause he had their back-up & the 'stage was warm' -WHAT grandstanding!! Hated it...only good it did was to remind America what the judges r famous FOR!
