  • This video went viral on Netherlands

  • Awesome Pad. 3:50

  • I'd also like to know about that first lead sound on the EX5. That was nice man. I just got an EX5 finally.

  • Jamal,

What patch are you using for the portamento slide sound on the EX5?

  • Dude your are SO SICK....u need to start doing CONFERENCES just on the Knowledge you know...I'D REGISTER EARLY :-) be blessed

  • Just ordered a EX5 from ebay....cant wait for it to arrive...thanks for the demo....great player....peace.

  • @supersoundcrafter

how much did the ex5 run you? im looking on ebay for one

  • @theLearner I paid just over £300 gbp for it fully expanded

  • After watching this and your earlier videos of the EX5 MANY TIMES,I ordered a used one from guitar center. I remember listening to the demos of this keyboard years ago but never seen/heard one in person. This will be my first Yamaha keyboard since I'm a Roland guy. I hope it lives up to it's hype. I wanted a different sound, never wanted a Motif so i jumped on this instead.

  • @ChurchBoy0487 how much did your ex5 cost used?

  • @theLearner I caught it at a deal at the right time. They had it listed for $400 including shipping plus taxes it was around $470 from a Guitarcenter in New York and I live in Texas. Practically mint condition.

  • @ChurchBoy0487 I do like Roland stuff, it sounds gat but the Yamaha stuff seems to have that "little something" that other gear dont, im not sure what it is but there is definatly a little "something" it has that i really like.....

Check out the piano sound on my cover of Chaka Khans AINT NOBODY to see what i mean.....

  • @supersoundcrafter *****GOOD not GAT********

  • I just bought my MB Pro with Logic Studio and my setup looks just like yours. I am using M-Audio Pro-Fire as my audio interface / Motif XS8 / MB Pro. Do you use a separate channel for each board and logic? Or everything is coming out of one channel?

  • Genuinely cant get over how good the ex5 is..... Are there patches of that quality available for the later motifs?

  • I just got an ex5. Are you using the floppy disk to load patches or do you have something else. Also are you ising the flash ram loaded in the board.

  • I just got an ex5. Are you using the floppy disk to load patches or do you have something else. Also are you ising the flash ram loaded in the board.

  • YESSSSUHH I HAD THAT SAME BOARD IN 98' 99' IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BRUH .... THAT BOARD IS THE BEST .... BELEEEEEV DAT IS THE FOUNDATION OF THE MOTIF ...

  • what is it brow roland mks is that how is called men i wana get one of does it has a sick piano bro

  • WHAT IS THE PIANO THAT IS BEING USED IN THIS VIDEO?!? Is it from the MKS-20???... I could definitely use this!!!

  • MOTIF ALL THE WAY!!!!! And U sound great Jamal, you're a great role model.

    What camera did u use?

  • Hey Jamal, diggin the setup bruh... I hope Im not too far off topic of the video but I noticed you were showcasen youre secret weapon...lol and it seems like you know youre boards.... well I got a question about a sound that I know is very common...Ive heard it in countless Rnb tunes. it was used in Janet Jackson's "would you mind" its the chorded synth sound. it sounds like a multi moog or a filtered talkbox. lol idk... if anyones readin this and has used this sound before plz let me know.

  • wow now I feel like getting EX5!

  • man I wish I could find a piano like that on a keyboard preset you are awesome man and I love your spirit god definite ly

  • I got the ex7. That keyboard will die with me. I need to get that bosenfender piano. I have people ask me the same thing, man where did you get that from. good stuff Jamal. I was about to get the roland mks but know i don't thanks alot bro

  • Waddup Jamal,I've been checking you out a few times on youtube,I love your enthusiam,& playing. I am a huge Yamaha fan as well,& not just their keyboards. Louis Johnson demoed 6 bass guitars for Michael Jackson when they were working on "Billie Jean", Michael picked the Yamaha bass. The Yamaha SY99 & the EX7 became my dream, boards, until i bought the S80. I'm buying a Motif XF 8 early next year,That will be my center piece, along with my Triton pro & Roland Stage,"soon 2 be purchased" .

  • STOP PLAYING, get on the yamaha team. GET PAID! you are an asset to them.

  • oasys is not $ 10,000

  • @prince4d When the Oasys 1st came out it was around 8,000,add taxes & other expansions boards, etc. etc. , it almost reached around 10,000. I don't know 2 many people with an Oasys, unless they are an established church,or gigging musician with a nice long contract,or if you're Herbie Hancock or Stevie Wonder or somebody on that level.

  • @prince4d it used to be 10,000 though lol

  • How do I assign different sounds on each sequencer track

  • jamal soy mexicano hace poco descubri tus videos eres genial gloria a Dios por tu vida

    god bless you

  • Quincy Jones sounds on that ex5 Sick

  • Jamal God bless you. would like to know what type of roland mks do you have? what specific sounds or patches do you use to get that incredible sound for the piano in the video.

  • @pgjpsg I'm coming out with my custom patches!

  • you are one good player and that yamaha ex5 is sweet. my friend had one. i wish i could play like you.

  • It's a total bummer that Yamaha really didn't carry the virtual FM synth engines into the MOTIFs. Nice playing by the way.

  • Wow! We have one of those ex-5 in our church as a main keyboard but the keyboardist always complains about the piano sound... Any suggestions to make the piano sound better? We really need help with the ex-5 here, coz I believe that we're not using the ex-5 properly? So if you can get us started properly with the ex-5 that's like a whole world to us, Thanks!

  • @limaribudollar Got to look online for some RAM for the EX5 and go to EX5Tech (dot) Com and download the FREE samples, especially the Bosenfender Piano. It's going to be hard to find the FLASH or RAM, but possible.

  • @limaribudollar I've heard that the ex-5 pianos were horrible, but good for everything else (types of sounds)... leads bass horns, etc...

  • What church is this?

  • Just bought the Yamaha EX5 last week! and it's awesome! Thanks for the inspiration Jamal!

  • @JimAtwood Wow...thanks man! We call it the Blue Beast!

  • @JimAtwood Hey Jim...ARen't you the same guy that bought the very rare silver EX5?

  • @GospelMusicians Hi Jamal! Yes, I think I am. I've posted on a couple of other forums about the EX5. It's funny, the Silver EX5 had been sitting in a used shop near my residence in Japan for nearly a year. They lowered the price and then I talked them down a bit more and eventually brought it home. I don't think it sold because the shop was kind of remote and their initial price was very high. I got it for $375. I really like the EX5...what a gem! Thank you for the videos!

  • The ex5 sound set is available for the es.

  • @Waynyce Where? Who has that?

  • @GospelMusicians Sorry, I was thinking of the cs6x :-b

  • @GospelMusicians Sorry I was thinking of the cs6x

  • wow....ex 5 is amazing

  • is ur drummer txting?? ;) 4:43

  • Hi...I also own an EX-5. could you please tell me where you got your sounds from?? or did you program it yourself...Cheers HD

  • Great video Jamal! Thanks so much for sharing your setup. I actually am on the fence right now about getting a used Yamaha EX5 which is sitting at a local used music shop here in Japan. It's in great condition and one of the silver ones. Your video is making me think hard about it...laugh.

  • Hey Jamal,. I am writing from Mandeville Jamaica. I like your setup (gig), I am quite interested in the K Sounds and was about to ask you where to get them but found them on ksounds.com for $40.00 My gig is somehat similar to yours, MOTIF XS6 (bottom), Yamaha PSR-295 (top), I also used loaded samples XSPAND Voices.

I appreciate your videos and representation because they are simple, not to mention your playing is excellent. I'm inviting you to Jamaica to conduct a seminar re: gospel musicians

  • da piano @6:30 kinda sound like a Korg keyboard

  • Hey, Rob G here, moved to Orlando about a year ago... Going to Full Sail and I am a musician/producer (Drums, bass) ---- Just wondering, what church do you play at?? I've been watching you for a few years now lol, and I need to come check ya'll out...

  • Jamal, can you do a video on how to upload all of those samples into the MotifXS? I always use the standard sounds on the board and need to upgrade the sounds! Also, what/where is the best way/place to get those nice samples?

  • which k sounds piano are you using?

  • @TheA90plyr I'm using the Piano 2. Not the new one. The new one looks amazing.

  • @GospelMusicians I also got the K-Sounds PIano 2 (Kawai grand) sample set for my ES7 and love it! Only thing with the ES is the load time. I've got 512mB but only load in the 128mB sound set since it takes excruciatingly long to load from a USB stick and I can't find a larger Smart Media card than 128. Even that takes a while to load. You said you load in 400 some MB of piano into your ES8. That must take forever! Have you switched to using anything else for piano sounds?

  • Hey Jamall ! I like you video ! its veri good - godd setup - good eqiupament ! God Bless You ! Igor from Republic of Moldova

  • Jamal who makes the mks?

  • @jazzyat Its roland and thats pretty old if u ask me!

  • @jazzyat Roland

  • great video nice to see some other players keeping the old synths around. I have been playing keys for over 30 years and also have some synths I will not part with. I am a member on motifator got this link .. thank you great to see someone like you on the motifator site...enjoyed the video !!!!!!!!!!

  • this may sound a little stupid... i notice a lot of musicians uses laptops and stuff... is it like to upload new sounds on a keyboard or wat???....i wanna try it one day...

  • @Antisatan7771 no most people that use laptops in their live setups are probably using the for backing tracks (tracks that they do BEFORE the gig to make them sound phat) or they could also be triggering sounds from the laptop from VSTs etc...

  • @theapex81 thanx for the response... do u know how culd i get that program?

  • man u really take time to explore these equip.

  • can you do a vid on how the whole church is set up that would be nice doc. by the way i love yamahas 2. they are just so nice. yamaha fanboys lol!!!!

  • Hey man, What church do you play at? i would love to come visit

  • I honestly dont think anyone else do what you do in church lol

  • YAMAHA... thats where its at!

  • Whats that "buzz" sound you use with the rhodes?

  • @ImpactWorshipMusic Hahaha...Good ear! That's the key to a phat sound. It's just simply a patch with a Saw sound to it, to add some foundation. It's custom as well. I can upload my patches to my description so you guys can download them if that's cool.

  • @GospelMusicians That Would be great! Thanks so much!

  • @GospelMusicians yeah... would be great if you can upload this. love it.

    great setup btw. very inspiring.

  • @whitevanlunatic Move out of mommy's basement homo troll. What a sad human being you are to have to troll Christians all over youtube because they hold a different moral standard and speak out on it, Furthermore how sad of you to have the time to troll soo many on a daily basis. It really shows you have no job, no life, no education and no hope.

  • Great set-up!

  • how do the organ tones sound on the yamaha ex5?

  • Thanks for letting me know. All the best! : )

  • Just wondering what soundcard you use for your mac, is it M Audio? Cheers Bro

  • @maramazone M-Audio Profire 610 for the road and Apogee Duet for Studio work.

  • 3:03 & 3:19 & 3:38 what patches were those? I own a EX5 and I didn't found those sounds in my keyboards

  • @HammondB200 Those Patches were from the bonus disks that Yamaha gave. I tweaked them. You can get all of these patches from EX5Tech.com.

  • Hey, quick question for you. What is you thinking behind going MIDI thru instead of connecting each synth to the MAC via USB? Love your playing. Peace...

  • @gustavimprov MIDI Thru allows you to daisy chain so that you can play a few different synths at the same time. If you go MIDI in to the computer, you have to somehow pass that signal to your other synths and all of the soundcards only have a MIDI Out and not a MIDI thru. Not sure if Mainstage has an automatic MIDI thru, but it's just better to keep the computer as the last point of your MIDI chain.

  • Always informative as usual sir. But tempt yourself a little bit, play around with the Korg M50/M3. I think you'll be hooked!

  • @mccraykl I actually will. I just never liked their Rhodes or Piano sounds. Has that changed?

  • @GospelMusicians Yes. Quite a bit. Both the Rhodes and their acoustic Piano sounds. Plus you can order sample sets of sounds just the same as you did with the piano you got from KSounds

  • you are so cool...like fa real!

  • Hey man.. Love your setup.... Can you explain how you added your expansion piano into the Motif? Love the sound you have.. Thanks bro.. God bless..

  • @dmandavidbeverly You have to purchase some RAM, which I will be selling on the website and you use a thumb drive or external USB drive to load the samples.

  • Nice setup you got there. I'm just a beginner, so I'm not even NEAR your level of playing(need to buy your DVD's) and definitely don't know what half of that stuff does, but at least I see where I can take my ministry at church, so thanks!

    Big ups from The Bahamas!!

  • @CappaTheGreat Yes you can....I have a beginner DVD called Urban and Contemporary Worship Play by Ear. Go to LearnGospelByEar (d0t) c0m or you can go to my channel page and look at the main video.

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeeexelenteeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

  • Hi Jamal! first of all God bless you! i just wonder if you could uppload a video when you play more rhodes :) you know some deep fusion jazz stuff =) god bless!

  • What keyboard stand holds those two bad boys up? Do you still do any work for HEAR AND PLAY?

  • @oymeit Yea me and Jermaine Griggs are cool. We always partner on stuff. Not sure what kind of stand that is, but make sure it has the double legs. All the keyboard stands have a weight rating, so just make sure it's over 120 lbs.

  • love the setup bro! i'll be buying some of your beginner keyboard videos pretty soon. Thanks for the video!

  • Sweet setup, I don't have a laptop right now so I haul my PC tower back and forth to and from Church with reason and some sweet VST's I rum through fruity loops.

I use the native Instruments Elektrik Piano combined with Scarbee Vintage keyboard Effects. then I Use Native Instruments B4 II and turn off the rotary and vibrato and use the VB3's rotary creating a beautiful and robust organ sound moving major air in the church speakers. I now have the heavy Alienware tower so it's harder to bring

  • @Krazie316 Why do you even use the B4 II...haha! That VB3 is the sickest. Are you saying that you are able to use the B4 II through the VB3 Rotary effect? How in the world do you do that? You must do a side-chain type of deal?

  • @GospelMusicians I would use the VB3 alone but I haven't figured out how to split the left of the keyboard to use the foot pedals instead of the organ.

You can set B4 II into a regular channel and take VB3fx (comes with VB3 as a vst effect) and load it in the mixer in the B4 II's (or main) channel effects slot.

It would probably be better to show instead of explain, lol. I do want to see what the VB3 can do alone though NI B4 II has a terrible rotary sound but nice other features.

  • @Krazie316 If you have a Yamaha Motif you can use the Master Mode to split the keyboard by channel. I just did my new Organ DVD using the VB3 totally. I used a top, bottom, and foot pedals all on different MIDI channels 1-3. So the key is to use the Master Mode on the Motif to split the keyboard per channel!

  • @GospelMusicians Hell will probably freeze over before we get a board of that calibur. We have a cheapy Casio and I can't stand the way it sounds so hauling that heavy tower is, in the long run, worth it, lol. At least till I can come up on something and buy my own Motif

  • @Krazie316 Don't be 2 quick to dis the Casio sounds, after all,Sade's Keyboard player uses the Casio WK series as his main keyboard in his keyboard rig,& he can afford anything he want..

  • Comment removed

  • can we hear like a hammond sample

  • A Jamal...I have an Oasys...They are relatively inexpensive now...I checked out that Motif XF...I still like my Korg boards...but that EX5 is sick...

  • Whats up Brotha!

    You still got it!

    Will Smith

  • @SmithlIable Thanks man...How you been?
