Has anyone else heard? One of the people in charge of this site died at age 22 and no details will be released. I always had/heard of crazy theory(ies) that the government or Illuminati invented Facebook to track people, which sounds a bit far fetched, but after seeing The Social Network movie about how Facebook was made (like theyre making sure everyone knows the story), and now the creator of a site that can rival Facebook dies with no details being released, I cant help but wonder. Hmm....
This will never catch on. Because frankly, I don't want to learn how to run my own server or whatever, I just want the product to bloody WORK. And it to be simple. Not focus on the open-source, political bullcrap, just be pretty and need no setting up. Nor do they care about companies having the ability to spy on them. I personally believe it's in the nature of social networks--you publicising your data.
Now that would be a popular social network. Not this FOSS hippie crap.
@johnanth I happen to hate the idea of "tagging" your pictures in facebook because it is adding to the government collected datatbase of facial recognition software and people are dumb enough to continue doing it. Those facial scanners are ALL over europe and most likely here too who knows. Hate the idea of a slave population. I tag dogs as myself to confuse their system.
@smoke489 G+ is almost a direct copy of diaspora. The "circles" idea was stolen from "Aspects" in Diaspora. Just like pretty much everything else Google does
@Javi18House You are very much correct as far as the 'server unplugged' then your Diaspora Profile is offline. But they are apparently working on a federated system which (not only would link with your Facebook profile for easy migration to get out of Facebook and terminate Facebook account eventually) but also to enable your profile to be online available on another server (let's say your friends server). This idea is similar to the P2P file sharing network like eMule/Torrent/LimeWire/Gnutella
They need to do the same thing to Windows, Smart phone OS's, Youtube and Gmail, I hate knowing that companies are spying on us and have power over mass media over the net. It all needs to be open sourced, anonymous, and de-commercialized. It makes it harder for the wealthy to manipulate society.
@dsherret Think that was done because general population that heard about Diaspora* from hear say, most likely don't care for source codes and the like. So to them, its "leaked" just because its in dev.

OK! Let me ask something. This is suppossed to be an "server unplugged" system, so it will be installed in my computer.
If computer is switched off, nobody can access my information, can't they?
