One of the most beautiful programs I have ever seen. It touches my heart in so many ways. . . I don't care if it is 100% historically accurate. It told a story.
I think some of y'all are being a bit hard on Queen Mary. She was by nature a very shy woman and as Queen Consort, felt she had a duty to carry herself in a certain manner at all times, which, regrettably, meant she could not be emotional...even to her own children. Furthermore, she was just at a loss at how to deal with Johnnie's condition. But I think in that regard was following the medical advice of the time, which we all know now was just ridiculous.
What a fantastic, moving and sad film. Johnnie was such 'an innocent' he said exactly what he thought and had no malice in him at all.... And his relationship with his brother was lovely to see too, I shed quite a few tears at the end...
Thankyou so very much @TheVictorianLady2 for posting this for us all to see...
We, the plain people, have such privilage in freedom compaired to people like this. Makes you want to value your family more. I've known of rich kids raised exactly like this, by servants because their parents don't have time for them. Pathetic. Nothing should take the place of love. .
Thank you again Victoria for putting up another excellent piece.
@arethafan2006 She believed that as Queen, they are voice of the nation and whatever they do is for the nation. As such, showing emotions are considered rather absurd - for them. Her granddaughter, the current Queen feels precisely that.
@324wilson She is a heartless woman point blank. You are not going to be worried about what the nation would think when you have just lost your child. This clip shows who his real mother was.
@arethafan2006 The paradox is if you read her letters and diaries, they are very tender - filled with words like "dear," "my love" etc. But were they heartless as in not showing their emotions? Yes, I will probably agree with that. Mary found it very hard to express her emotions (very common with the royalty of that time). To the British royals DUTY to the country is everything, no matter what their personal feeling are. That's why their people love them. Rather than emoting, they carry on.

I am sorry but that Queen was a witch to the end. She is worried about the Ivy and her son has just died. Lalla broke my heart in this scene.

@324wilson Well we have to agree to disagree because she came off as being heartless.
