it is just an Australian car called "Monaro", 5.7 is a chev motor and then they came with a 6.0 chev.

they are based of a commodore which is a common car in Australia. But even in Australia they are a desirable car........

What a way to take a nice respectable looking car and make it look like complete crap. The riced out front fascia is probably saying it nicely. The rear bumper went horribly wrong. Simply gay side exhaust. Shaker hood why??? And to finish it all off you put lambo doors on it, that doesnt make it a show piece, it makes it a hideous riced out piece of crap. Overall tasteless, put it in a junk yard.

Nothing but respect for what you are doing to the mighty GTO...But i personally feel like you riced it out a little, But to each his own.Front facsia (sp?) looks ok, but wrapped wind not cool. side skirt exhaust not my stile either, and for christ sake what have you dont to the bumper. I dont have all negetive to say, i do like the ingenuity that when into the shaker hood,nice work. I would also NEVER put lambo doors on a GTO. I think these guys hearts where in the right place. The 05 and 06 are 6.0Liters

@mustang19ms Buy a Vauxhall Monaro, it will be much cheaper, as there's no need to change from LHD. You could also look up "HSV GTO Coupe" and see if that body kit is to your taste. You'd find the Australian aftermarket kits, or even HSV body panels would be cheaper, due to the exchange rate from $A to pounds sterling

Well, it may not be everyone's ideal look, but the stock GTO shouldn't even wear the badge, since it's just a Monaro.

So, one could go even further and say that the whole concept of calling this car a GTO in the first place is horrid.

Although, you may have a point in the end. I don't think the company did very well with this whole project.

Wrong.

The original GTO is a Tempest with the GTO option package. So, if you're going to get technical, it's not a GTO but a Tempest with the GTO option.

This option package proved so successful that in '66 they marketed the GTO as it's own model until '72 when it's decline in popularity resulted in it being reduced back to an options package for the LeMans. To make a long story short, the GTO option is killed in '74.

In my opinion it was silly for GM to import the Monaro and declare it the return of the GTO.

I think they were trying to sell a performance car to mature buyers (kids couldn't afford trans ams anymore, and they didn't really want them anymore either). But they might have done better to just import the Monaro (which is a really nice car) with an available GTO option - which would have been a truer representation of what GTO was all about.

But what do I know? I'm just an armchair car enthusiast.

Ok so in a way we are both right. but from the beginning the GTO was kinda an unwanted child. For the name, because it was named after an Italian ride. And general managers didnt think it would sell. And only came available because of a loop hole in production rules. I myself like it cuz it DOESNT look like a ticket waiting to happen. this could go on forever really since now these new ones were built in australia from the monaro with american motors. it never ends.

When the lambo door first opened up I was expecting an attractive blonde to step out or something similar, not one of the company owners lol Guess it works out for the best cause I was hooked on the cars instead of some nice female. Some of the stuff is borderline ricey, or rice-inspired, but those are the baddest GTOs I've seen aside from car shows
