I have been trying to find some psytrance / electro tracks.... in U-tube. And the old mix you did that led to this video etc so far at least has been the track that most nearly created the kind of music I hear at weekends in raves.
I usually have a very low attention span when it comes to long mixes but this is something else, I guess Psytrance is another trance genre in my blood, it's damn hypnotic! You did great to deliver that hypnosis!
@hanzotk I listen through all of my tracks many, many, many times to figure out which ones are in the same key, have similar bass lines, similar synths, etc, etc. I don't necessarily find a particular place in two tracks that mix well- I can mix back and forth at any point in the tracks- but choosing tracks beforehand definitely makes a difference. There are guys that don't think it's legit to preselect your tracks, but most of their mixes sound like shit....
lol dude really come on, yeah i agree with you on point 1 but ur second point is complete garbage, i started with cdj's and later found that its easer to move your music around with a laptop and a controller. i still do gigs with a laptop and cdj's man so easy before u start slaming ppl man
You are dumb to think laptop dj's are any different than CDJ, as you can OMG BURN MUSIC TO A CD? Wait, no that's not right you can only use vinyl! Yeah, that's right, CDJ and VDJ are both lame aren't they.
I don't think it matters how you dj, as long as you can do it well.
hi, firstly great mix. but what id like to ask you is that im just starting on mixing and ive been trying to find tutorials on mixing psytrance. the problem is that there doesnt seem to be any about.
i have a mixer etc but could u tell me if you know of any tutorials or if you could give me any advise on how to mix.
im getting the hang of it but im still not getting the tunes to mix right. some do some dont.
The mixer is a Numark DXM09. It's an incredible mixer for the price- it has all same features of high end mixers like pioneer, and then some. It's audio output, and input are the same as Pioneer's too.... Odds are high that most of us bedroom DJ's won't go very far so why spend 2,000.00 on something that you might only screw around with for a few years? Highly suggest this mixer~
The big wheels are called pitch wheels :]. They temporarily stretch (slow) or shrink (speed up) the track in order to nudge the beats into sync with each other. The little vertical lever on the right of the pitch wheel is the pitch- it permanently sets the speed of the track~
It's about one beat fast. I record the video, and audio for my videos separately then throw them together in Windows Movie Maker.... It's pretty ghetto.
your choice of tracks to mix always amazme me, I find something new in them, I can say that I fully trust my ears and the most importantly attention into your hands :}
Sorry, no place to download my mixes yet. I haven't had a whole lot of time to search for a site where I can upload hour long mixes, and people can stream them. If someone could point me in the right direction I would upload everything I have at the moment~
Hey man, great mix! Do your tunes all mix harmonically (they sound right but my music theory is not good) and do use anything like Mixed in Key to help you choose which tunes to play? Keep it up man, hope your mix gets accepted at that event!!!!! If you do let me know I def come and listen to you play!
My tunes do indeed mix harmonically~ I use Mixed in Key quite a bit, but sometimes I will have a track that doesn't match up with any other tracks of the same key. When that happens I spend quite a bit of time sifting through my music by hand to find something similar that will transition well.
Thanks, I use Mixed in Key a lot as well. When your putting your track list together for, say, an hour set how many key changes would you do? Do you stay in the same key for long and just have a few really noticeable key changes to boost your mix or do you change regularly? Also I never know if it sounds better going up through the keys (eg. 6A -> 7A) or down. Any ideas?! Thanks again dude.
Personally, over the course of an hour, I go through about three or four key changes, but there have been times where I have gone through all the keys in an hour. I prefer to hover around the same key for the majority of my sets so everything flows smoothly, and I only make drastic key changes if I absolutely need to or if I think it's suitable for the situation. Sometimes I like to go from 150bpm darkpsy straight into 140 melodic full-on with a bunch of effects and stutters in between.
I think that when a person is putting together tracks they need to pay attention to the bass line first, synths, and hi hats last- I've had a lot of good results when I pay attention to those. Also be sure and pay attention to the tone of the track. It usually sounds too abrupt if you mix a darker track with a higher octave melodic track for instance. I don't think it sounds any better if you go up or down the keys, but depending on how much music you have going from 7a to 8b could be too abrupt
Great selection of tracks my friend, i am more into this than fullon.. i reccomend you to download Burn In Noise you will think its insane although i am more into Hi-tek like lost and found digital talk
I got in a pretty bad motorcycle accident a few months ago and screwed my leg up really bad so I can't stand. I'm still not completely happy with the way that this set flows so i've been spending a few minutes a day picking and choosing tracks.... As soon as I get it finished i'll record and post it for download~ Thanks for listening. I appreciate it.
That's good to hear- I appreciate you checking my mixes out. I plan on uploading the first hour of this mix to RapidShare or some other site for everyone to download. I'm not completely satisfied with track selection at the moment, but it will be something to listen to.
I give mad props to any DJ that can mix a decent set on the fly, but I like to spend quite a bit of time picking and choosing tracks that flow really well- it just sounds better. I probably spent about a solid week sifting through over 100 different tracks, mixing and matching, then remixing and rematching to come up with this little bit. I didn't spend the entire week working solely on this mix though. I created a set of about two hours worth of music that flows like these four tracks.
I do my very, very best to pay close attention to bass lines, samples, audio quality between different tracks, snares, color and the direction it's taking, how much is going on in the music.... I usually work on track selection for no more than an hour a day so that everything is always fresh too.
Love this mix can´t stop listen to it :D

i've going to give you prop for 2 reasons
1- You know how to transitions
2- you're not a homo laptop DJ.
All laptop DJs are just wannabes who just steal shit from people and save on laptop for later use.
They all trash.
