  • Brilliant video, it helped me a lot picking my new guitar. I went for the dxc1e in the end, and believe me, I tried everything in that price range. Some hardcore guitar gurus like to tell you to buy a "real guitar" made of real wood, but the thing is, this one actually sounds way better than those. It has the growly Martin sound and that fantastic Martin scent too :) Try it for yourself!

PS: what's that tune you're playing? I'd love to learn how to play it.

  • @wearereflected

Glad you liked the DCX1E. I tried various other guitars, Martin & Taylor included, in the same price range and higher prices, and nothing else could sway me. I even tried this guitar and another that was the exact same model and this one won out. Amazing how two of the same guitars by the same company can sound so unique.

I'll need a minute marker reference regarding which song; I was playing several. I'd be glad to do a lesson on whichever one it is. Thanks for the comment.

  • @sword6204

It's the one starting at 1:20. I love that tune, and I would be grateful if you could do a lesson on it.

What kind of strings do you use? Right now I have gauge 12 Martin PB-s, but I've always used D'Addarios on my other guitar. I have yet to try this one with those.

  • @wearereflected

That is a song by Bill Monroe entitled "He Will Set Your Fields On Fire." It's a very fun melody to play. Will work on getting a lesson uploaded as soon as I can.

I use both Elixir Phosphor Bronze and Martin Lifespan Phosphor Bronze strings. Both Medium gauge. They are the best in my opinion.

  • I most certainly suggest this guitar for starting out. For one thing, you won't need to buy another one for a very long time if you take care of it. And for another, in the long run the cost is totally worth it (about $600--$700 new). Plus, if you buy it new, Martin offers a lifetime warranty. If it's not in your budget, you could always try and get a used one on Craigslist or golsn.com. Been playing almost 20 years now. Thanks for the compliments! See info section for a link to the DCX1E.

  • What acoustic would you suggest for starting out? Reading reviews and watched lots of YouTube, all kind of overwhelming. I haven't gone to guitarcenter yet. You wouldn't suggest the one your playing on would you? How long you been playing b/c you great skills?

  • Getting mine for christmas :)

  • @ryutheman8 You will LOVE it! Congrats on getting an awesome guitar for an awesome price. What store are you getting it from?

  • @sword6204 got mine for $599! only because they sold another guitar by accident that i had on hold! :) But i got it from a local family owned business here in Arizona called Milanos.

  • I might be getting this soon, your guitar playing is amazing, great skills

  • @NikMetalEx Thanks so much! You should definitely get this unless you can afford a higher quality Martin. For entry level affordable Martins I'll recommend this one time and again. Still loving mine after just over a year of playing it. The tone gets sweeter every time I pick it up! Don't pass it up :) Check out the description of the video for a link I've included to where you can purchase it online from my favorite online Music Store.

  • The Martin X series are the best acoustic/electric for the money... hands down. Don't believe me? Go to GC and try them! I dont think Martin knows what they are doing, cuz these babues go for just under $500! GO GET ONE NOW!!!!

  • @ohYew812

Definitely ... what he/she said, lol!

  • Nice playing...sounds great. I have a Martin D-15M and love the sound of the Martins. First class.

  • @thundercat2320

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I love my Martin. I tried the D-15's but the DCX1E really packed a punch for the more Bluegrassy tone I was looking for.

  • @sword6204

Thanks I bought a franklin strap for a bug guy seems to work well.

  • @sword6204 I what strap do you have. im a big boy myself 6'4 270 and i cant find a good leather strap. i have the same guitar and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on good straps for big people.

  • @cmack003

I just used the old strap from my Morgan Monroe. I prefer nylon straps instead of leather because they're not as bulky and they don't "stick" to your shoulder when you're playing. I think it's either a D'Addario or Fender nylon strap.

  • I should have said bridge pins yes, it looks like yours is parallel to the saddle like mine, the saddle is offset (not straight across) to assure a closer intonation, many newer Martin's and customs are like this by design, most older ones the pins are straight across and NOT offset with the saddle, you have to look pretty close to tell which way they are, evidently there is some unique reason Martin started doing this, I wish I knew why. Great sounding box, thats what counts. :)

  • Also wanted to mention, it's a good idea to go a little farther than needed when adjusting the truss rod, then bring it back to where you want it. Seems to set and stay there better this way over time. Great sounding axe bro, big congrats! And thanks for reviewing it for us.

  • Wow yes! Its definitely got that Martin booming sound! I've got 3 Martin's and all of them have that tiny buzz around the 3rd fret, mine is on the first string tho but all 3 of them do it, I've lightened up on my picking a lot which helps but its still there. I noticed it looks like your dal-pins run offset WITH and parallel to the saddle instead of straight, Martin made several custom guitars for Guitar Center like this, my custom is also like this, doesn't hurt the sound any tho, maybe it help

  • @pretourious

You talking about the bridge pins? I don't know what you mean by offset; they look pretty straight to me. Glad to see I didn't get a dud guitar because of the buzz. Thanks also for the truss rod tip. Got it pretty much set up the way I like now. Oh, and a Paige capo with tension adjustment helps the buzz quite a bit as well!

  • @sword6204 I should mention, the best way to describe it and look at the pins is, the 6th string pin is closer to the end (ebony closest to the rear strap button on bottom of the guitar) of the ebony than the 1st string pin is if they run parallel with the saddle. Its something new Martin seems to be doing on many but not all guitars.
