Jct: Youtube for "Gathafi's Green Book" so people can hear thoughts on democracy and fairly sharing the wealth from the hero our thugs Obama, Cameron, Sarkosy are trying to kill who gave his citizens one of the highest standards of living and best human rights records on the planet.
In addition; do we really know who or what the Libyan opposition really is? The thing that's always left out of such analysis is that we automatically assume that by 'democracy', Arabs mean Jeffersonian style democracy. This is clearly not the case. Islam is the dominant social and political system in the region. Islamist factions and groups are often the best organised and present the best arguments. Backing the disposal of secular strongmen we are backing the establishment of theocracies!
Oh dear. Any idea whose going to replace Gaddafi once all this has played through? Or is that just a minor detail that nobody really cares about? Looks like Cameron has ensured BP executives that he'll fight tooth and nail to maintain their access to Libyan oil - whatever the costs...
And its also interesting that asians and white europeans are responsible for practically every single technological, medical and engineering advancement in the last hundred years.
Tell me what has Islam and Muslims contributed to humankind in the last century? How about ABSOLUTE ZERO?
You can blame the west for all of the mideast/african woes all you like, but for all the bad they have done, the west has done alot of good as well, while Islam has done NOTHING BUT BAD.
I wish Islam would do exactly what your nickname said and 'just take it easy'! But instead Islam is the worst joke on humanity EVER.
Seriously Muslims can go on and kill themselves and leave the rest of the world alone. Its just ashame that they have the oil yet don't know how to share it peacefully among themselves and the rest of the world
And I never said Muslims don't deserve freedom and peace, just that they really don't want it otherwise they wouldn't cause so much trouble
I think it is so strange how reactionary the public can get when waving the moral "humanitarian" banner indignantly when a development appears in a region be it somalia serbia east timor etc all of a sudden Ghaddaffi is a monster and urgency is prompted to get rid after 41 years (where was you in 2001)? oh it was saddam back then when ever a opportunity is present and CNN show a few displaced people assholes like you think your George S Patton .
@tsarXadam These "rebels" are akin to the same rebels Soviet forces encountered in Afghanistan insurgents i believe they are called today..back the right horse .so to speak is your suggestion i'm sure you know what has happened historicly the dynamics of a secular arabic government falling to rebels...to put it in other words 80% of these rebels are islamic hardliners ..it is a safer bet to let Ghadaffi run the course
What kind of message does an aborted revolution, a reimposed terror and paralysed international community send? To Yemen, to Saudi Arabia, even to the - thus far relatively benign - military rulers of Egypt?
The equation laid out here was impressive, but incomplete and I've added the bits I think were missing. However to be clear, I've no idea how to solve it either; it's going to take a political Einstein.
I thought the video made some important points but it doesn't seem to be taking into account that the rebels are almost certainly going to loose within the next 6 - 12 weeks if we extrapolate Gaddafi & Sons progress to date. In that process thousands perhaps tens of thousands are going to be killed and then, once control is reimposed, many thousands more will be exterminated.

I wish this guy didn't speak so well, because the content of his words is way not helpful, although his delivery is good.
Bad mix.

@CharmingLordSausage The "Devil we know" argument is one I actually subscribe too also.
However, I don't think this particular devil has been good for anyone.
I will not be sad to see him go. Not at all.

I agree that a blockade would be very effective, along with training and equipping the rebels.
