simple question.......when you have connected all these up like you did ion the video can you use rekordbox?? as in be able to drag your tracks from rekordbox into the cdj icons? or will i have to go down the ethernet and network hub route to do this?
Sorry to be negative but this was possibly the most pointless video I ever watched. You plugged a standard USB cable from a CDJ into a laptop. Then you explained nothing.
To clear it up for people, you don't need any software open when you connect the CDJs (LINK > Push rotary dial to connect).
Once connected you can open any DJ software you like (Traktor Pro & VDJ will automatically map to the unit). You can even close the software you're using to open a different program.
As for the outputs...each CDJ (900s & 2000s) has a built in soundcard, so you connect them to your mixer as normal. I would, however, recommend investing in an external audio interface as the latency on the CDJs isn't great.
@stereoflavasmusic Actually, if you look at the date of the video, the cdj 2000s/900s had just come out and weren't compatible with any programs (except Traktor), so for those who don't let their programs match beats for them (ie: Serato users) could only connect the MIDI. At that point there was no communication between the software and the CDJ. Also, it wasn't stated that the program needed to be open.
@wilson121415 You need to connect both cdjs to your laptop. Most likely you will need to buy a USB hub for all your USB connections. Watch my newest video because there are a couple og new steps since both serato and cdjs have updated.
hey man im getting cdj 900. i was wondering, since i have serato SL1 i have to have an extra usb port to hook up all three usb Cords right? I.e. one from the cdj 900, the second one from the other cdj and the third one from the serato box. Thanks
@ipodnanoguy12 You would have to buy a USB hub to connect everything to your laptop. Fortunately, they are almost all under $20. Make sure you find one with al least 5 ports so that you have flexibility to add stuff in the future. My USB hub is a Belkin and it works great. I opted for a powered one since my external hard drive requires a powered source to run.
I'm presently using a cdj400 with virtual DJ in native mode on a macbook pro ... Very stable and very nice ... Just wondering if you can do a video about adding aggregate device on macbook or is NOt necessary on the cdj2000
@omentk My cdjs connect to an Allen and Heath Xone:92 mixer. From that mixer, I have all my speakers connecting directly. For home setup, inwould recommend a good set of studio monitors and subwoofer.
If your mixer and speakers are a bit more basic, you can connect a receiver to you mixer via red/white component cables and speakers directly to the receiver.
All you need to do is connect an Ethernet (LAN, RJ45) cable, plug it into the CDJ-2000, and plug the other end into a Hub/Switch which your computer will connect into. But please note, that the data that flows from the CDJs to the computer housing Rekordbox is quite substantial. If you don't have your network setup correctly, then it can quickly bog down your whole network. I recommend having the CDJs, and Computer on their own separate physical network. VLANs on Cisco works 2.
@LongWayz713 You don't need Serato or Traktor to connect the CDJs. You need a dj mixer and speakers that connect either directly to the mixer or a receiver.
@ltitruck12 The setup should almost be identical for Traktor Scratch. The good news is that Traktor supports the CDJ-2000, so you can use it in HID mode. I will be making a future video showing step-by-step how to setup your turntable in HID mode. Subscribe to my channel...I'll be posting some good content in the next few weeks.
