wow! you're the first person I've seen sign primarily left handed. I took sign classes because I work with special needs kids and the first thing I was taught was to use my right hand, but I prefer to use my left, It feels awkward not to.

If you feel that you didn't want to change the original words too much (because this song really is about the words) then that is your interpretation of it. No right or wrong. However, I believe not all songs have to be interpreted to the point where it loses the original words and ideas and becomes only MY perspective. That's what makes signing songs so difficult! I'm still learning to find the right balance... You should check out "Hero" in ASL signed by a Deaf guy, he does it in the same style as me. Hope that helps! And I appreciate your perspective!
@brianaott I have seen that bideo. It does have some PSE, but it is majority ASL. His name is Sean Berdy (If you wanted to know, Idk). The point of sign songs are that they are supposed to be ov your perspective on the song. It is YOUR interpretation of the song.

OSV is one of the sentence structures of ASL, so if she's signing OSV (which she's not) that technically is ASL. This isn't picture based, there's no conceptual accuracy and needs to be analyzed for meaning, but I felt your OSV comment needed to be addressed

@RaechelleEgan Yes, instead of me signing the word best I chose to sign "SUCCESS" which is what Adele meant in her song. in ASL "SUCCESS" also means "work out". SO I am signing "I hope things work out for you".

I like that you're left-handed. I'm left-handed and I've been teaching myself ASL on my own using my right hand. I'm still in the beginning stage. Do you think I should continue using my right hand? Or do you think I'll be more comfortable with my dominant hand?
@Kryptoniankousin Hi, I'm really right handed but my camera switched everything around and so it looks like I'm left handed haha... Anywho, YES you should use your left hand as your dominant hand when signing because it should be whichever is more natural to you. Don't worry about using your left hand because I know lots of left handed signers who are great!!
@Kryptoniankousin As a left hand signer, I always found it easier to learn from right handed signers because of the mirror effect. Whatever hand you choose, the longer you stick with it the harder it'll be to switch. When I started ASL it was easy to learn with both hands, if I wanted to.
I'm so tired of people posting videos saying that they're signing ASL when they're really signing PSE or SEE. This is a good video, with fluent signing, but it's not true ASL. All that you did was take a song, and use the exact same words that she sang, in the correct English grammatical structure. Don't get me wrong, you signed well! Just rename your video appropriately, please(:
@seifertally I agree and disagree with you. Yes, it is a little "Englishy" at times but it's hard not to be when I want to stay as true to the song and the artist as possible. Yes, I would agree that it's PSE and ASL. Everyone signs songs differently. Check out "hero" by seanberdy. It's done by a Deaf guy and he signs the song similar to the way I do it. I have ASL, PSE and SEE in the 'tags'. I appreciate your comment and thanks for the compliments!
It's pretty obvious all the comments on this are from people who know nothing about Deaf culture or ASL.... don't feel bad for Deaf people because they can't hear Adele's voice. Seriously you're using THEIR language, calling it beautiful, then pitying the very people who created it?

Sure you say it may not be perfect, but there was something about your performance (although subtle) that was very heartfelt to me. As if you were expressing the song like it was your own words. Way more genuine and warmer than the other ASL version by tiffanyevita - hers seems "without feeling", as if she didn't really care for the song.
@v10moped Yes, you're right, I try my hardest not to just sign a song but to express the emotions in the song as well. Facial expressions and body language are a huge part of communication, so it's very important when signing songs. Thanks so much for noticing that! @Kryptoniankousin As a left hand signer, I always found it easier to learn from right handed signers because of the mirror effect. Whatever hand you choose, the longer you stick with it the harder it'll be to switch. When I started ASL it was easy to learn with both hands, if I wanted to.

I'm so tired of people posting videos saying that they're signing ASL when they're really signing PSE or SEE. This is a good video, with fluent signing, but it's not true ASL. All that you did was take a song, and use the exact same words that she sang, in the correct English grammatical structure. Don't get me wrong, you signed well! Just rename your video appropriately, please(:

@seifertally I agree and disagree with you. Yes, it is a little "Englishy" at times but it's hard not to be when I want to stay as true to the song and the artist as possible. Yes, I would agree that it's PSE and ASL. Everyone signs songs differently. Check out "hero" by seanberdy. It's done by a Deaf guy and he signs the song similar to the way I do it. I have ASL, PSE and SEE in the 'tags'. I appreciate your comment and thanks for the compliments!

It's pretty obvious all the comments on this are from people who know nothing about Deaf culture or ASL.... don't feel bad for Deaf people because they can't hear Adele's voice. Seriously you're using THEIR language, calling it beautiful, then pitying the very people who created it?

@badabingbambino I agree with you!!! Unfortunately the general population just doesn't know much about the Deaf world and their culture. Many people only learn about that if they take classes on it like I did. Hopefully with the increasing interest in ASL more people will be knowledgeable about Deaf culture in the future. Sure you say it may not be perfect, but there was something about your performance (although subtle) that was very heartfelt to me. As if you were expressing the song like it was your own words. Way more genuine and warmer than the other ASL version by tiffanyevita - hers seems "without feeling", as if she didn't really care for the song.

@v10moped Yes, you're right, I try my hardest not to just sign a song but to express the emotions in the song as well. Facial expressions and body language are a huge part of communication, so it's very important when signing songs. Thanks so much for noticing that! I tend to pick songs like this that have strong emotions because it's so much better to perform! Thanks for watching and commenting!

what is the sign where you put your fingers at the edge of your mouth and then do an outwards motion? I have seen a few people sign this but don't know what it means.
