  • I was 10 yrs old when it was introduced at the 1965 NY Worlds Fair. It was in the Pepsi Pavilion of the exhibition before being moved to the Disney Parks after the fair closed. I remember it well. The live animations were amazing but after 20 minutes of the same song and the same music on and on, you got the feeling you were being indoctrinated. A decade later, news spread that long hairs were banned from Disneyland. I never looked back. Sorry, Walt. Saved some money.

  • Too bad that water from across the world are now covered in spilt soda drinks.

  • The clock is scary.

  • @YourCartoonHero It went under renovation in 2004.

  • After taking this ride with your kids or grand kids try to get that song out of your head.

Even in the movie Shrek thay made fun of it.

  • Walt Disney needs to come back and punch all the current Disney people in the face.

  • The attraction opened at Disneyland in May of 1966. This program must have aired shortly after that. Walt didn't have much longer to live by then, and I think you can sort of tell in this video.

  • @disneyclint

Actually, this came from the Wonderful World of Disney episode "Disneyland Around the Seasons", which also featured, among other things, the opening of the attraction "Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln", as well as the opening of New Orleans Square. The episode actually aired for the first time three days AFTER Walt Disney died, and as a result, the original viewers of this episode never saw the first few minutes, as NBC instead did a tribute to Walt Disney.

  • why do people say walt disney was a nazi lol

  • You can tell Disney is ageing because of hise white/gray hair.

  • @WWEChampion16

Yes he was, though that had nothing to do with his death, which came on December 15, 1966, from lung cancer. Doctors actually expected him to live well into 1967, and even possibly saee the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which was the final project on which he worked a significant amount. So his death came much sooner than expected. The final film he made was supposedly the "EPCOT film", which was originally made to appease Florida legislators late in 1966.

  • though this isn't my . . . favorite ride, I still love and enjoy the idea of the world being one and happy. thanx Walt :]

  • Those children sing it just like in the ride.

  • they had to deepen the track and change the boats because people are fatter now.

  • No. the track was starting to have it fiberglass breaking and the canel was becoming leaky and the was Dirty. that's the real reason of how the track changed,

  • It truly was a small world in 1964 when this Disney Audio-animatronic Flume Voyage Attraction Opened at the World's Fair in Flushing, Queens. The world had become much smaller in the previous decade though Our Military Industrial Complex developing the B-707 & the fastest Ocean Liner in the world, to this day, The SS United States. The Exposition's theme was "Peace through Understanding". Pres. Kennedy had challenged us to achieve greatly & live in peace. The dream lives on.

    NYC:EXPO 2020

  • That was beautifully written! ;-)

  • imported salted water

  • is all the water from the different oceans gone now that they've changed the flume, or did they go through the trouble of saving all that water just to keep the imported water?

  • The water from other countries was only symbolic, and probably it was gone do to filters the next day?

  • yeah I just noticed the thumbs down too.. i'm a disney fan

  • wow so all differen kids from all over the world came and then they put there sea water in the ride.

wonder if its true hope it is cause it will make it speshal

  • it says on wikipedia that Walt Disney died the year that ride opened.

  • I dont know why people have put thumb downs for the comment saying Walt Disney died the year "It's a Small World" opened =/ Its true. "It's a Small World" opened May 1966 and Walt died December 1966.

  • i hope you die in hell -_-

  • east meets west

    Its A Small World

  • I would pay BIG MONEY to see the EXECUTION of anyone involved with the decision to make changes to "It's a Small World". I think it's still unknown if they are going to go through with it though...

  • I believe they are going to keep it as authentic as possible. It's on of the only rides in Disney World, I think, that hasn't has renovations. I don't think they would, unless it is in DIRE need of repairs.

  • They have changed it in Disneyland, slightly. In the style of the other dolls, they have added dolls from Disney and Pixar films. Some of them are very subtle (aladin and jasmine) while others are pretty obvious (nemo)

If you look up pictures for disney hong kong (where this concept was first used) you can see how it looks.

Like I said, only additions. It's nice for the little ones!

  • They also replaced the boats with new onces and deepened the track along with the other renovations.

  • the disneyworld one has been renovated

  • @YourCartoonHero i know they widened the boats, not sure when though

  • wow when disney has a new ride they see to it that its given a respectable opening

  • Walt made sure everything was perfect back then. I have a feeling he's turning over in his grave with the plans to change the ride.

  • what? they want to change the ride well if they do they better not ruin it into a log flume otherwise we shall sue!

  • wow the glory days of the opening!

  • ウォルト・ディズニーさんは凄い!!!

    尊敬しますよ\(^0^)/

  • Wow, I don't think they make this huge a deal out of a new ride anymore. That was pretty cool.

  • Well they advertize it on disney channel for like 3 months. If that counts

  • this is a classic

it shows what happend on that day

lol Walt hired ppl of all cultures

  • LEGEND!

  • Great video. This is Disneyland though, not Walt Disney World.
