doesnt matter if u like it or not, if it creates disagreement , theres something special in it. Just look at Dylan himself, some love his music others cant see what we see. Music is too personal for other s to say if its good or bad, all we can do is like it or not. Make sense?
personally i think to cover a song you almost have to make it your own not just try to sound exactly the same as the original writers, it makes it more exciting
DISagree strongly. I like Pearl Jam, and I think their version is fine, but it's not as good as Dylan's original version, and I like that this guy did something new with the song. He made it faster to fit modern mentalities and he put strong feeling into it. This version is better than Pearl Jam's version.
idk what your talking about the fact that this guy even picked this song to play mean he has plenty of emotion towards this topic....while eddie vedders version might be better dont knock him and say he has no emotion and that its pitiful....u get up on stage a try convey the emotion that hes putting out there pussy
Musically has no relation to the original. Same lyrics but everything else is apparently original. Although certainly not my favourite interpretation it definitely is owed credit for novelty.
plus I'm sure he just put it together for the concert to get the crowd going in which he did.
with his talent, I think that if he worked on it like he does his songs, and he actually got the verses in order unlike he did here, it would be a good cover.
otherwise I listen to eddie vedders version as a better cover.
Seriously, I bet this guy is uber-talented, but he missed the mark on this cover. There are a million different ways to cover a song, and they can't all be good. This is the first time I've ever heard of this guy though, and this performance has intrigued me enough to now search for more stuff from him.
Eh, i might be a bit biased towards him, haha but.. this is such a powerful cover of a powerful song. I think its sung beautifully, he's known for putting his ultimate emotion into every song he sings, its amazing.
i love rx bandits, and bigger than that i think matt embree is an amazing guy (from how little i got to meet him) but i think ed ved's version is better.....
I admit at time's his performance and interpretation of this can be a bit over the top... but theres truth to it.. and if u knew any thing about Matt embry you might understand that. plus his voice is brilliant. and it's kinda the whole point - that he takes some thing subtle (bob's style) and plays it with expressed fury. I think he feels it's time we actually did some thing about it instead of just accepting quitely it's insanely corrupted nature! at least, it was great to me.
You're absolutely right, Dylan did sing subdued and certain. Matt sings with a fury. Both hold a certain strength to them. Both versions do something different, Dylan's states a truth, Embrees shoves it down throats. Love both versions.
Chunk, did you actually hear Eddie do this song? This was by no means impressive at all. More Emotion? More Feeling? Did you hit your head really hard before you listened to this? and for the dude who flew from Milwaukee to Hollywood to see this guy I give respect where respect is due and you completely wasted your f-ing money! I hope you had something else to do while you were there.
Thats Rubbish, this guys having a fit by sound of him. The Quiet subdued way Dylan played it chilled you to bone with the simple stated cold truths that you had always known deep down in the pit of your soul. this on the other hand is over the top and self indulgent.
Matt Embree's Love You Moon is on an independent label, as are the Rx Bandits, and all of their side projects. If they record a song, you can be sure it is their artistic interpretation. If they were worried about being accessible to large audiences, that wouldn't be the case.
And it isn't like Bob Dylan is obscure. I'm pretty sure more people have listened to his version than this one.
Very nice performance. Reminds me of Bright Eyes.

This is not intended to be musically valued so much as it portrays a brutal reality which he does with tremendous passion very well!

What he did to this song is......terrible, but with the Rx Bandits he's great.
rumncoke2009 11 months ago
@rumncoke2009
Why do you think it´s terrible?
He just combined it with his own style.
I even like the rhytmics of his version a little more then the original.
But I guess it´s a question of how long you know an original song.
When you got used to it over a long time, I think it´s hard to cotton to a new version of it.
PEACE
