I'm sorry that they were treated badly and had to serve against their will, but that doesn't mean they are not ethnic Germans.
Their ancestors were germanic tribes, the language they used to speak is a form of German, and they were part of the Holy Roman Empire before France annexed them to get at their natural resources and forts. They are ethnic Germans who have sadly been assimilated into French culture, and I find that to be a shame, as their culture was very interesting and unique.

If they want to be a part of France, then, as much as it pains me, they should be a part of France. But that doesn't mean they should deny their cultural heritage. They were German before they were French, and they had a proud history long before France annexed them to get at their rich land. They should be proud and not let that fade away into a generic French culture.

I know they are not German citizens. I said they were ETHNIC Germans. I know not all ethnic Germans are citizens of Germany, nor do they all want to be. Their language and culture was German. I cannot help it that I am not European and thus do not live there and see all the subtlties that go on. But, as I have said, I am a great admirer of all German cultures and I study them. And I have always appreciate Alsatian culture quite a bit. But everything I read tells me that Alsatian language is endangered and that Alsatians mostly speak French now. I'm sorry that they were treated badly and had to serve against their will, but that doesn't mean they are not ethnic Germans.
Their ancestors were germanic tribes, the language they used to speak is a form of German, and they were part of the Holy Roman Empire before France annexed them to get at their natural resources and forts. They are ethnic Germans who have sadly been assimilated into French culture, and I find that to be a shame, as their culture was very interesting and unique.

If they want to be a part of France, then, as much as it pains me, they should be a part of France. But that doesn't mean they should deny their cultural heritage. They were German before they were French, and they had a proud history long before France annexed them to get at their rich land. They should be proud and not let that fade away into a generic French culture.

I know they are not German citizens. I said they were ETHNIC Germans. I know not all ethnic Germans are citizens of Germany, nor do they all want to be. Their language and culture was German. I cannot help it that I am not European and thus do not live there and see all the subtlties that go on. But, as I have said, I am a great admirer of all German cultures and I study them. And I have always appreciate Alsatian culture quite a bit. But everything I read tells me that Alsatian language is endangered and that Alsatians mostly speak French now. They have been assimilated into French culture, and that is wrong. The French should not have done that to them :(

Germany started WW1. They declared war on Russia and France first. They massacred civilians in NEUTRAL Belgium. They invaded France. They were the first to use chemical weapons. They wanted to annex vast territories and then cried about the 'unjust' Versailles treaty. The truth is that the allies, France in particular, had every right to weaken Germany as much as possible after the First World War.

The fact that people cheered has nothing to do with the responsibility for the outbreak of war. On September 3rd 1939 the people of Warsaw cheered when France and Britain declared war on Germany. Does that mean that Poland started the war? Maybe the French wanted war in 1914. That still does not change the fact they did not start it. Germany invaded Belgium and France.

Ask historians about this! There are controversial debates about this subject, but no expert says that the question which land started the war can be answered clearly. Most agree that is was a kind of chain reaction involving all great powers in Europe. Therefore the unclear statement in Wikipedia.

Vindictive policies of France were the result of the war which Germany started in August 1914. Had Germany not started World War I, there would have been no Versailles and no vindictive policies. That's pretty simple.

vindictive policies = eg. occupation of the Ruhr 1923/23 with disastrous implications for German economy and people (just to explain a reason for enthusiasm)

I think the hole thematic around the Dresden bombing, and the bombings of the German civilians in ww2, is about understanding the collective guilt. The adult civilian population in the third Reich, had supported and brought the Nazi regime to power, so indirectly they where a part of the guilt, more or less.

This is racist labeling. The Nazis got 35% in the election of 1932, then they usurped the power! And Hitler was never elected but nominated.
The Nazis were bastards, but labeling a whole nation as such is racism.
The "collective guilt" was decided in the Allied meetings and it was a POLITCAL statement, not a Biblical tenet.

Why dont you write in English? The Nazis here should know this: you wrote that 27 mill Russians were killed, 18 mill women, children, elderly (civilians). I think not everyone was killed directly by Nazis - anyway, the numbers are horrible. But not all Germans were Nazis or supported Hitler. And the children who burnt alive were innocent. Instead all the Nazis should have been punished who caused the horror. There is no justice in bombing a city. People are individuals, not nations and numbers.

However, all the big leaders of ww2 used the military for "justice" which could be called execution based on political reasons, though courts would call that simply murder.

In 20 century there was Holocaust of Russian people. From 1917 to 1924 10 millions were killed by Jews, from 1924 to 1953 15 millions killed by Stalin, from 1941 to 1945 27 millions (18 millions women, children, old people) killed by Germans.
