  • awesome shit

  • ahahaha okay thanks

  • those maracas have a beautiful sound!

  • You gotta get the rimba rimba

  • There is something completely ecstatic about the repetition in this music. It's incredible. Some people don't get it... that's too bad for them,

  • why does everyone in Reich's band look like Steven Spielberg, including Reich himself?

  • the drums.just WOW!!!!

  • This made my day.. THANK YOU for sharing this, really valuable and thought-provoking words from the man behind the music. God bless.

  • Reich has a wicked sense of humor, too! Listen very carefully to 9:13. Peace.

  • Haha, thanks for pointing that out. I've watched this documentary numerous times and somehow I never noticed that.

  • @MuzikJunkyAES I don't get it can you explain it to me??

  • A woman walked to the front of the stage, took off one of her shoes and pounded on the stage, demanding that the performance stop. Someone else yelled, "All right, I'll confess!"

Check the book "The Rest is Noise".

  • I was fortunate enough to travel to New York by Greyhound to see the stateside concerts hinted at by the rehearsals in this show. Seeing Reich and his ensemble do "Drumming" and "Music for 18 Musicians" at Carnegie Hall was something I'll probably never get to do again.

(Seeing Kronos do "Different Trains" and Pat Metheny and his hair do "Electric Counterpoint" was also a treat!)

  • Huge props to Michael Tilson Thomas for taking the chance and pushing Steve's work. Far too often classical music leaders resist change and fight musical advancement without perceived peer approval.

  • where im from nobody even heard of Reich, so be grateful that you've got the opportunity to study his work

  • I respect Steve Reich as a musician and composer wanting to push the boundaries and try new things but this music is not fun to study!!

  • oh god, I agree

  • Don't study it then. Life's too short.

  • Hearing Druming for the fist time was such a treat for me.

  • thank you, steve ;) for your music and ideas!

  • ... and if Michael Tilson Thomas isn't a musical hero to you after this, you simply don't know what musical heroes are.

  • He does seem like a fantastic guy.

  • fantastic

  • On the one hand, it's reaffirming that there are people who don't or can't understand because then as a music teacher, I have a job security! (Additionally, it's kind of nice humans all have different "strengths" so that some understand visual art, sports, while others "get" music of different types.) On the other hand, it might have helped if before the concert of say, Four Organs, Reich or Thomas told the audience about the piece they were about to hear. (I wonder if they did?)

  • Reich is so intelligent. Haha. It's so sad people don't understand some forms of music.

  • @zionchild83 I don't believe he thinks he's some kind of 'god'. He's honest about what he has and hasn't heard, what he does and doesn't like, and what has influenced him. He's composing what he feels he needs to compose. He doesn't make a big deal about 'phasing' - he even admits he 'discovered' it entirely by accident. Don't confuse self-confidence with arrogance.
