One of my first few concerts growing up in Pittsburgh. Also featured a band called the Illusion ( from long island, i think). Did a great version of Season of the Witch (donovan). great live band. Bogert and Appice!!
Actually I rather like their histrionics, especially Bogert's. It's so much better than watching cookie cutter performers today showing their navels in front of a stage full of robotic dancers, or angst ridden indies staring at the floor. There's a really blurry Ed Sullivan clip of Vanilla Fudge doing "Shotgun" somewhere on YouTube wherein Bogert's antics are so over the top they go beyond corny and you have to take them seriously -- and he gets the most amazing sounds out of that bass.
The self titled debut album which this song was on was recorded @ Ultrasonic Recording studios in Hempstead, NY about 5 miles from where I lived growing up. So much I was unaware of at the time. Of course I was only 9 Y.O.
bergathron said in German: "It is simply to say that it in this so evil that appears here and there but world twinkling stars to see there. If you only draw attention is.." Huh?
very crazy version of this song! ok, those where high times of LSD, no? Very creative , experimental times (whichs does not mean you have to take LSD or other cracks to get creative...)
@carlolf Well, it does help to stretch the creativity to the max. They all did it at the time, take LSD that is; some more than others. The Beatles were the commercial side of it, whreas VF were avantgarde and also had the musical chops (and the National Health thick-rimmed spectacles) whilst still retaining the psychedelic vein. Groovy!
Es ist doch ergreifend zu bemerken daß es in dieser so böse erscheinenden Welt doch hier und da funkelnde Sterne zu sehen gibt. Wenn man nur aufmerksam ist..
The music of Vanilla Fudge takes me back to my Haight-Ashbury days in San Francisco in 1967 and 1968. I use to listen to a underground radio station in the area that played Vanilla Fudge. They weren't played on regular radio yet. As I listened on my radio as I walked down the street, straight people looked at me as though I was crazy.
I love this band and their style of music which they played. I still groove on them today at 62 years old.

@robertmontag Sorry...hit the down button by accident. Youtube hides these things to the side and you don't even realize you can accidently click on it, then it's too late. I don't even know what was said here.
God, this is great. I've had Vanilla Fudge albums in my collection for going on 40 years now. Such emotion and creativity. It still sounds great. Thanx for posting...
I've never seen anyone put a P bass neck on a J bass. But, hey! Tim Bogert was, and still is, an awesome bass player! And I can see why he did that. He loved the sound of a Fender Jazz bass, but also loved the feel of a neck from a Fender Precision bass. John Entwistle did the same thing with his Gibson Thunderbird bass. The neck broke on it, so he took the neck from his P bass and put it on his Thunderbird, hence, the Fenderbird which sold for quite alot auction! I wish I had it!
very good it is the first time I listen to it completely even if I been a fudge fan since their begeining

Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice....corny? You can't find a better rhythm section. This was the era of hippy psychedelia - cut them some slack.

always thought these guys were excellent musicians, but way corny performers.

This is a superb fusion of excellent music and vocals by these artists ...very nice indeed as they create a fantastic track.

iade38 claims that YES had a big influence on the Vanilla Fudge. On the contrary, this song was recorded long before YES recorded its first album.

This "church organ" sound is missing from today's rock and that's a shame.
ColeHan100 3 months ago 2
@ColeHan100 it is called "percussion organ" or "Hammond organ", not "church organ" (orgel)

@rehpycuol My comment obviously blew over your tiny head. I was referring to the sound not the actual instrument.
