This is a great idea. The reason we went into Iraq was for oil and we need energy to run our country. Why not spend the trillion on renewable and sustainable energy sources? That would go a long way to solving the problem. I'm from the UK but it looks like you guys also need to sort out your medical services and spend some money on your infrastructure too, you guys are lagging!
Im don't know all of the major issues in the US, some of that money should go to making sure dirtbags like Bush never get a chance to speak or act in your favors!! He has done nothing but harm to your country and saddly it's probably only gonna get worse, but He won't mind!! Who walks away the winner here?
Let's spend a few hundred billion dollars to nationalize our housing and take housing out of the speculative market. Then turn over title to each and every homeowner, and for vacant homes, turn them over to the homeless and renters.
What about a couple of hundred billion in energy research.. imagine how much money the US would save if it didn't have to pay out trillions each year in petrol costs. Imagine how much cheaper it would be for the elderly to heat their homes in winter if there is cheap abundent energy.. and it would bring a lot of jobs too.
I would spend 100 billion on research for a fuel to burn in cars that is cheap and clean . and another 100 billion on helping people kick the nicotine addiction and another 100 billion helping working families to have insurance on their children and another 100 billion on space exploreing .
I did some math, if you divided a trillion dollers out to every person in the USA, we would all get $3330. If you give it out to all people in the entire world, everyone gets $250 dollers.
If you were to give it out to all the people in the world who actually NEED it...
Renember, a couple hundred dollers goes very far in a third world country.
100 billion on a government operated lab to come up with CURES not treatments for diseases that are currently afflicting the world. Not only will the government gain a massive source of revenue from patents to the cures coming in from other countries but the USA would be known as the country that cured AIDS, malaria, Hepatitis and Diabetes or something along those lines ... how many terrorists could justify attacking that country?
If you don't want to spend that trillion dollars on defense (one of the few enumerated duties of the federal government), then how about this for an idea...GIVE IT BACK TO THE PEOPLE THAT IT BLELONGS TO! That isn't the government's money, that money was coerced from US citizens under the threat of incarceration. What ever happened to the idea that the money a person earns is THEIRS, and that they know a heck of a lot better how to spend it than a bunch of bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.?
Fair enough; it's an interesting mental challenge, I just hate the idea of surrender to the premise that it's legitmate money to be spent in the first place. That aside, I enjoy the videos of yours that I've got to watch so far. Thanks; and here's hoping you had a great Thanksgiving!
I agree on the first 300 billion. Those are the most important aspects in the U.S. Why even spend the rest of it? Just pay off old debts to work toward a more balanced economy.
100 billion should be spent on keeping immigrants out, 100 billion on getting the immigrants here back out, 100 billion on missles to blow up cuba, 1 million on a new mclaren for myself, and use the rest to stop all tax's for every person in america untill it runs out, nicee.
My hundred billion would go to a two-way study abroad fund to let more Americans try to understand people's points of view in other countries, and to give people from outside the U.S. more opportunities to go to college or high school here and develop ties with Americans. It's this sort of stuff that gives us national security in the long run.
I'd put my 100 Billion into health care for every legal "citizen" in the US. I'd use the VA health care system as a model. The other $900,000,000,000 could be used to provide food and shelter for for the less fortunate in America.
when Clinton left office, he was the 1st president in something like 100years to have a balanced budget. what did GWBush do?? give away a bunch of money to buy the taxpayers off, because of the florida fiasco of stealing the election. remember that check we all got in the 1st few months of him being in office?? it' almost criminal
One more thing, I did some research into converting my home over to solar power about 4 years ago and found it would have cost about $15,000 to go completely off the grid. I did some calculating (I'm an engineer) and figured we could probably hook every home and small business in America up with solar power for around $1.2 trillion. I'm guessing it'd probably be cheaper if purchased on such a mass scale but, even at $1-trillion, it'd be worth it.
Another good one. Keep up the good work. One thing tho, did you know that the Bushies don't include the cost for the wars in their budget projections thus, that cost doesn't get added to the overall debt. And, they also do not include the money they're taking out of S.S. Add those two in and the actual debt is probably closer to $10-trillion. Pretty clever, eh?
Education is the silver bullet. Education is everything. We don't need little changes. We need gigantic revolutionary changes. Schools should be palaces. Competition for the best teachers should be fierce. They should be getting six-figure salaries. Schools should be incredibly expensive for government and absolutely free of charge for its citizens, just like national defense. That is my position.
1-5)More federal support for research campuses and projects. We can shed light on every problem we have if we had enough funding. Gene Therapy could solve some problems. Alternate power sources can sever out dependence on other nations, provide subsities for Solar Panel growing companies
But yea so it pretty much boils doing to investing it all in education.
WTF! Southern accent! Baseball hat! Mustache!!! Yet...intelligent and articulate ?!?! Is there really hope for this country? Are there others like you down there? Unfortuntately, insurance and pharmaceutical companies have better marketing ability that youtube so they will list any solutions here as 'socialism'. But good luck, thanks for the effort!
You're welcome. Have you read "The World is Flat"? The author is too 'free-trade' oriented for me, but he gives a great outline as to where the world is heading and how much trouble our debt is going to cause us. Help countries stuggling with poverty and water shortages 11. Research, Space Exploration and stem cell research 12. Fund physical activity and wellness in schools
I really like the idea that you and a few others have hit on for funding physical activity and wellness. We really need help here. Nutrition education is very important, as well.
I see a lot of people doing this Free University stuff... however do you honestly think that with 100 billion dollors, that would be self sustaining? Maybe for half years ~_~. It costs me about 50k for all four years of my education, and at that cost you can pay for 2 million students. with 100billion. Last time I checked america has a little more than 2 million college age citizens :/

6) Restore New Orleans and protect our vulnerable cities.
7) Be on the forefront of developing alternative energy sources. Flexfuel will give our cars 100 mpg and only use 15% gasoline. The Middle East economy would deflate without oil and there would be no obscene oil money to fund terrorism.

I hope those aren't in order, I certainly wouldn't put Space exploration before improving our own earth-bound public transport system, far less cancer research.
Anyway, you raise some good points RR, but i have to agree with my15minutes, the money really should go back to where it came from. I think there are many countries, esp in the 3rd world, that would benefit from this money far more. My call would be to end world debt and give them a fair chance first.
Everyone is equal until I make better choices on my SAT and make a better life for myself. Then you want to steal my money through the govt and give it to warlords in Sudan? what a great foreign policy. Dont stop killing your people, just take this hundred million. Dont stop raping and starving your people, just take this hundred million
GIVE IT BACK TO THE TAXPAYERS YOU IDIOT - and not to people who didnt pay it either. there are NO extra tax dollars. If you have an extra trillion GIVE IT BACK to the taxpayers. Not buying people off - that is national socialism. remember how well that works?
The best single use for the trillion dollars is tax rebates. Let the consumer spend the money and get more bang for the buck. Why give it to government that eats up 50% or more of every dollar with administrative costs.
AT LEAST 100 Billion for research and development of alternative energy sources. Once we can power ourselves, maybe we won't NEED to invest in any more bullshit wars.
Great point! We are supposed to be the greatest country in the world why aren't we desiriing to be at the forefront of this new technology. Think of the jobs that would create and how much it would improve our Gross National Product. We are being fleeced in every way by Big Oil.
Bush has avoided raising taxes significantly, largely by taking out *gigantic* loans from countries like China. They're going to want the vig, to use loan shark parlance.
You don't spend money you didn't earn, unless you don't give a damn what happens tomorrow when the bills pile up.
"Hmm... Government spending problems. I wonder how I can ignore such a serious issue...

As a resident of the great city of New Orleans, it infuriates me to see this city waiting for her aid while we are pouring money into a country we never should have been in in the first place! Here's my list:
glad to see you have a sense of humour.. the comment wasnt malicious in any way.. good luck with your country.. for the record, i was pulling my hair off the last time i read that bush got re-elected..
i think education - and not just for kids - is a main concern there and in all 'rich' countrys...
educate people on how to diet and excersise properly for a start, which in turn will reduce the countrys health / hospital spending....educate some of the young people what the role of a parent is...i see that problem in my country a lot..
for me..it would all start with a level of good free education for all...adults too...
Great ideas in the comments. I've got one that won't cost much, shoehorn it in. We'll need a few billion set aside to investigate, prosecute, convict and imprison the leadership of the Republican Party for the coup d'etat begun in 2000 and kept in power in 2004 by illegal voting interference.

i would do whatevers important to shut down the damned federal Reserve and IRS. please- i beg you all- WATCH THAT MOVIE- "America: From Freedom to Fascism" -- its on google.. please please please please RR and all- please watch it.
RR - See what I mean? That video Freedom to Fascism is well worth the hour and a half it takes to watch. You won't be the same after watching it. I agree - use the trillion to kill the federal reserve should be the first step.
1) Education 2) Poverty 3) Health Care 4) Social Security 5) Farming 6) Industry 7) Housing 8) Defense 9&10) Bribe politicians to make the other 8 possible. I've experienced war and would classify myself as an isolationist, but sharing our self-sufficient technology with the world would be a worthy goal too.
Really? I thought the good reason was that the rich had to spend less money on making their industry more power-effective. Oh well, maybe you're right. But it's better than what we're doing now. The only way I can think of myself of being a humanitarian is by being an environmentalist, and Kyoto sure seems like the way to go.
Conservation of the planet's natural resources is of a VERY high importance, and I'm glad you pointed out that I missed that in my video response. We're gonna need more money, George... (President Bush allocated over $10billion prior to 9/11 for alternative fuels research, namely hydrogen fuel cells...)
I accidently just deleted a comment from jnewyouth. Sorry... I was trying to reply with a thank you and accidently hit the remove link. They don't give you a do-over. Dooh...
well i'm not american as you may guess with my intro, but a trillion dollers to spend in the US?
well 1st stack to education, 2nd to seniors and vets, 3rd to social security, 4th to prision system, 5th to homeland defence policeys, 6th & 7th to new technology/space program and the rest to go toward paying some of that debt off
With the right person managing a trillion dollars, we could actually make progress!
RR, I think you would enjoy a video called From Freedom to Fascism, found at Google video - it addresses the U.S. money situation in exacting detail. THANKS again for a great vid!
We can't invade jack sh**. We are so over extended in Iraq.We are now sitting ducks. Bush is protecting the American people? With a president like this- who needs enemies!
I know that jack sh**, I hate George Bush to, what I meant was that Bush probably wants to do that and if he did so(god forbid), our debt would obviously go up tremendously.
Dude, you are so awesome. We are all southern in my family, and some members think that being a republican is the "proper, country" thing to do. I like to show them your videos to show to them that even people like our friends and neighbors are doubting Bushs ability.

To put that in perspective, this is what 10 trillion dollars looks like.
$10,000,000,000,000 (and no sense)
Put another way:
There's about 300,000,000 people in the US.
After doing the math, each and every man, woman and child in America is in debt $33,333.33.
Might be a good idea to skip the next war (just a thought).

Buy some more weapons and drugs and rum.

Thanks for your comment.

The best single use for the trillion dollars is tax rebates. Let the consumer spend the money and get more bang for the buck. Why give it to government that eats up 50% or more of every dollar with administrative costs.

Good point.

RR - In answer to your question, my 2 cents is: I'd give it back.
Now, these are all good causes. Your Top 3, in particular, are undoubtedly vital to our national interest.
But, it's still a billion dollars this nation didn't earn.

Bush has avoided raising taxes significantly, largely by taking out *gigantic* loans from countries like China. They're going to want the vig, to use loan shark parlance.
You don't spend money you didn't earn, unless you don't give a damn what happens tomorrow when the bills pile up.
my15minutes 5 years ago
I don't think the government "earns" any money.

"Hmm... Government spending problems. I wonder how I can ignore such a serious issue...
I know! An ad hominem argument! Just attack the messenger as a diversion.
Piece of cake. All I'll have to do is call him a hick. Even though he already calls himself a redneck, in a funny, self-deprecating way. I hope no one notices that fact..."

As a resident of the great city of New Orleans, it infuriates me to see this city waiting for her aid while we are pouring money into a country we never should have been in in the first place! Here's my list:
4)Rebuilding New Orleans/Gulf States/Wetlands protection
5)Protection for other vulnerable cities (San Fran, St. Louis, Memphis, etc)
6)End the War on Drugs-rehab program for drug offenders
7)Aid to Africa
8)Home ownership programs
9)National Healthcare
10)Manufacturing

ok...from an irishman...
i think education - and not just for kids - is a main concern there and in all 'rich' countrys...
educate people on how to diet and excersise properly for a start, which in turn will reduce the countrys health / hospital spending....educate some of the young people what the role of a parent is...i see that problem in my country a lot..
for me..it would all start with a level of good free education for all...adults too...
and a good plan to aid third world debt...

1. Forgive all College students who graduate of their debts
2. Create National Health Care
3. Help Inner City schools
4. Fight Global Warming (Kyoto)
5. Fight Diseases
6. Forgive African Debt

I've experienced war and would classify myself as an isolationist, but sharing our self-sufficient technology with the world would be a worthy goal too.

...continuing from yours...
3. Kyoto Protocol
4. Wetlands restoration
5. Raise minimum wage
6. Further subsidize inner-city programs
7. Stem cell research
With the rest, try to ease the debt! Also there's probably stuff I forgot, so yeah those too hehe

Kyoto was a rip-off... too many exceptions for underdeveloped nations... there's a GOOD reason we're not playing the Kyoto game...
RAbbi74 5 years ago

We can't invade jack sh**. We are so over extended in Iraq.We are now sitting ducks. Bush is protecting the American people? With a president like this- who needs enemies!
zoeywine 5 years ago
I know that jack sh**, I hate George Bush to, what I meant was that Bush probably wants to do that and if he did so(god forbid), our debt would obviously go up tremendously.

Dude, you are so awesome. We are all southern in my family, and some members think that being a republican is the "proper, country" thing to do. I like to show them your videos to show to them that even people like our friends and neighbors are doubting Bushs ability.
