  • Superb playing - had me grinning and grooving from start to finish - cheers! :)

  • one more thing.i am planning to go 5 strings and i am wondering which bass would be a good one to buy in terms of sound quality and durability.any suggestions are welcome either from you or whoever read this comment.thanks y'all!

  • man that is nice dude!!i has my own challenges like having hearing loss since bird,i can somewhat hear alright but not normal like normal people do,and yet i am what you can call a player by hear,i do started as a guitar player and went into basses.i dont read music much but,i can hear a song and then play the darn thing almost the same as the song.you got talent dude keep it up.

  • I wanna learn the first melody.. Tutorial please..

  • TURN IT UP MAN YOUR AMAZING!

  • I honestly thought you were holding your hand in a fancy technique until I read the comment saying about your fingers...really great playing.

  • just so you know you were my biggest inspiration to take my bass playing more seriously

i just hope one day ill be half as good as you

    thank you

  • lol damn cant get laid cant jerk off that must blow

  • nice vid&bass man

  • I would say try to make Tony Iommi fingertops but i dont think you would need it.

  • Dude, that is awesome! It's funky. I love it.

  • nice "never seen before" thumb taping technique... great!

  • is he finger missing?

  • ahahahahah funny very funny..............

  • I have that same bass! Had it for 10yrs. My main ax....

  • Damn, short fingers.

  • 0:49 funk time !

  • 4 string, also D A D G .

  • I hate to sound smart ass but

    4-String EADG

5-String BEADG OR EADGC OR EADGB

6-String F#BEADG OR BEADGC OR EADGBE

  • nice bass and playing

  • Beautiful..

    I loved it..

  • tapping with thumb.

    i find it very interesting.

    i'll try it .

  • 4 string-EADG

    5 string-BEADG

    6-BEADGC

  • B-E-A-D-G-C

  • Can some one please tell me the differents between 4 string 5 string and 6string bass

  • a 5 string bass has a lower B string above the E string.

  • or a higher C string^^

  • a five string bass has a low B string above the E string and a six string bass has the low B string and a high c string under the G string

  • string count

    hence,

    slightly larger range

    much more single position options

ease of runs across the neck

  • 4 string bass: 4 strings (duh) E-A-D-G.

    5 string bass: B-E-A-D-G.

    6 string bass: F#-B-E-A-D-G.

  • A six string bass is usually tuned to BEADGC, but it can be tuned that way.

  • hell yea F#

  • After years of using a powersaw with no problems, I went to trim a piece of oak; next thing I knew, my right hand index finger tip was on the garage floor. I think a cat ate it...because it was not there when I got back from the hospital. I am a drummer who dabbles in bass and was really bummed about . My Pirate name is now 'Nine fingers' and chicks dig the new look...but it still bums me a bit. I decided to give the bass a try anyway and am back at it. So glad to see this! VERY good. Keep on!

  • Nice playing, man.

And the Cirrus basses are incredible instruments.

  • i broke my pinky playing Football so it lost alot of power and it was frustrating playing thrash metal..but you are an inspiration......and to think i use to get disappointed over a pinky that still works just isnt strong....keep playing ur amazing!!!!!!

  • What the hell happened to good old 4-strings??

  • they got fucking Destroyed by Us 5 String Bassist Haaaahahahaha

  • Yeah, you've got a point about the four string basses, they seem to have dissappeared. I personally preffer the four string, basically because I'm a traditionallist, but I have nothing against the five string. I would be nice to see some more four sting bass videos on youtube so that us learners can attempt what these people are doing without any limitations. Long live the four string!!!!

  • Screw fads...not that a 5 sting has no merit...it does. But if you wanna play a 4 string (I do)there is no reason to get caught up in the '4 or 5 controversy'. Personal taste...and if anybody gets too uppity about one over the other just remember Geddy Lee(I love Rush. seen them 9 times)Stanley Clarke and many many more who proved that 4 stings are timeless. it is the player not how many strings you have(how long your stuff is or what car you drive or) Reality is other than faddish tech talk

  • mate you are a legend! Ive only been playing bass for 2 months, and im getting the hang of it, after practicing everyday, i really like 5 strings, and in the not so far future (my birthday) ill get one, but i agree too, its about how u play, not how many strings u use!

  • im still debating weather or not i should stick with 4 string or convert to 5 lol

  • didnt even notice the fingers, whatever. solid playing man!

  • Keep on bassin'

  • good playing man. just wondering how long have you been playing and was that before or after you lost parts of your fingers? sounds great, better than a lot of people who have all their fingers! keep playin man. cirrus are nice, i have an ibanez btb 676, can't stand fender anymore...

  • I've had the hand issues for my whole life... You can read previous comments for more details. I never did get hooked on Fender... Thanks!

  • bass sounds sweet

how much do these go for?

  • Man, solid playing, Sweet bass too :D

  • Mad skills dude !

    Keep playin'

  • lmfao dude don't look at the screen then.

  • Ive been playing the bass for nearly 2 years, I'm pretty good at it, But I just cant seem to teach myself how to play slap, so I have to improvise on lots of stuff, which is why I use a pick for most bass lines, and I hate how people think just because I use a pick I'm not a bass player.

  • Nobody ever taught me bass. I learned slap by imitating RYAN MARTINIE of Mudvayne. At first, it was just throwing my hand pretty quickly, but then, you just learn what angles and what movements produce the sound YOU want.

  • its not that your not a bass player or that your bad at it. just that you can do more with out a pick, and it understandable y people would think that your not a bass player because of it

  • using a pick is jst a diffrnt style of playing...

i sometimes use a pick and sometimes jst use my fingers.

    its all about preference.

  • One of my pro bassist friends was saying how his dad (there family likes bass lol) uses a pick, which is what most people did round his time. And that means that he can do things he couldnt possibly do, but then his son can do things his dad cant do with his fingers. Who knows, maybe you could master a bit of both. For guitar I fingerpick and use a plectrum when ever i feel like it. its nice to have the coordination to do both, it just takes time. not that im a bassist but i guess its similar

  • Can you please post an instructional video on that first piece? That was really nice! The rest was great too!

  • Nice Nice, I liked it, but what happened to u is fingers? =(

  • hahahahaha fuckin awesome!! loved it

  • Is the cirrus much better then the grind?

Nice video, good chord work and interesting use of the thumb to tap notes. Nice slap technique also.

  • The Peavey Cirrus came out several years before the Grind series. The Cirrus then was truly American craftsmanship and very good quality. The Grinds are made in Indonesia or somewhere. They are somewhat playable, but they don't hold a candle to the Cirrus basses for feel, playability and sound quality. I've had my Cirrus at least 10 years... Thanks for the comments...

  • I play a grind myself and love it, so I can imagine the cirrus must be deadly.

Thanks for your time, keep playing and take care!

  • i recently traded my grind 5 string and another bass and bought a cirrus...there is no comparison...the cirrus is 10 levels beyond

  • PLus Grinds are passive and use very dense woods creating a thick woody tone...They make great candidates for fretless though.

Cirrus use some exotic woods and active electronics...although just being American doesn't say they are built 10/10.

Just like American Fender's, they are built well and are expensive...but not built as well as they could be.

  • IMO/IME Peavey has better QC than Fender, but i would still agree with your point.

  • Yeah I think your right...but it depends on the area of Fender.

A Fender Custom shop job WILL be near perfect.

American Fenders are good too...just not built as well as they should be for the price.

But yeah, IU think Peavey has it.

That said, Leo sold Fender ages ago and ever since then the Quality went down, whereas Hartley Peavey still owns Peavey.

G&L are Leo's ultimate creations though.

PLease, play one if you find one.

the L-2000 series is a Fender Stingray LOL!

  • All very good points. The cirrus has a custom shop too, btw.

I've been dying to try a G&L , but nobody stocks them around here. They very well may be the only bass company that i haven't heard a single bad comment on.

  • You have good taste then.

    G&L are AWESOME!

Thing Fender comfort and playability with the bad parts taken out, then Add MusicMan HUGE punchy but clear highs tone and a bit of modern flavour and there ya have it.

Leo was happy himself. He never was with Fender other than the first P-bass but he LOVED G&L.

Try an L-2000 or if like me you prefere 5-string, try the L-2500.

  • If i ever see a 2500 around, i'll be sure to give a good test run :)

  • Very grate ahaha

    It's spelt "great".

  • AAAAhhhh man I love the video! Sounds GR8T!!!

  • yeah!!! good sound.. :-)

  • Love the slappin style..let the funk begin..Awesome video sonicman.

  • dude....great playing....but ima go out there and ask it....it kinda looks like your missing a couple fingers...if you are that makes you even more amazing at bass

  • I wonder the same thing about his fingers! Let us be reminded though, the late and VERY GRATE Jerry Garcia had only 9 fingers, and he grooved on his guitars. Don't let a person with a few less fingers make you think they aren't awesome! Sonicman, you rock!

And yes, it does make him even more amazing at bass.

  • What kind of bass is that? I'm looking at a Spector OLP 5 string bass. Do you know if its any good?

  • Its a USA made Peavey Cirrus (Not the Korean BXP model.) You would have to work pretty hard to find a better instrument.

  • Especially for the money, they are amazing sounding.

  • I found the other day that every peavey I ever picked up was pretty good for the cash.

  • really??? i find peavey more expensive than usual basses with the same quality

  • Not the USA made ones the Indonesian Cirrus BXPs and Vietnamese Grinds are cheap for what you get, neck through for both of them. although I have heard some nasty things about the grinds build quality on Harmony central and the like.

  • yea i wouldnt buy a american made bass personally, but im buying the Esp Exp D-5 its also made in Indonesia so im getting it for really cheap, and its better quality :) made from Merbau wood (luxury hardwood (endangered) hah :P

  • In regards to the grind build quality; that has been hugely sorted out, the build quality has really improved. Probably because they read reviews like those posted on Harmony central, always good to see a reactive company.

  • nice

  • you are blessed.i hope you know it.

  • beautiful playing

  • BRAVO!!!! man u are very good keep it up!!!

  • does more strings mean higher pitched? plz answer

  • no it means that you get one low B string ontop of it. and with a six you get a high c.

and with like 8strings etc, you have like octave strings between there

  • ur awesome and i cant wait till i get my 5 string

  • I like it man! great Improv!!

  • That bass sounds pretty badass

  • i don't want to be rude by pointing this out, but it looks like your fingers have been in an accident or something. That is great that you're still playing. You're like the Phil Keagy of bassists. keep it up.

  • ur wicked

  • i have a 5 string bass.

    it Goes

    B

    E

    A

    D

    G

  • Man it's a BEADG, listen the first string it can't be an E string

  • that beggining part was wicked awesome.

  • I guess it's hm,,

    B

    E

    A

    D

    G

  • I'd normally be able to tell for myself by the sound, but my speakers are blown, and even at full volume, I can't here it very well.

  • That's awesome! I've been playing the four-string for eight months with training, and my teacher says I'm doing very well, so for my birthday I'm getting a five-string. I'm curious, do you play BEADG or EADGC?

  • looking at his strings I would guess EADGC

  • im 5'5" and i play a fender bass

  • how different is it playing a five string from a four string bass? is it hard to change to a five string without any practice with it?

  • Not much different. Like I said in an earlier post, it is the same fingering patterns. Also, once you get familiar with five strings, you will not want to go back. Six strings is a little too much for me though...

  • cool thanks man.

  • depends on your posture. if you had many unnecessary motions playing 4s, it'll probably take a little time with 5s to get use to. but not too long, couple hours i'd say.

  • why is it all bassists are big guys? well played

  • my dad is a bass player and he's not a big guy.

  • I'm a bassist and I'm pretty damn big lol, but yeah thats not true at all of course some are but alot are not.

  • I'm only 67 kilos.. So, not true.

  • i ahve a 4 string bass and i am gonna get lessons but can someone tell me wat the differences between how many srings there are?

  • A Four-String Bass Guitar has the following strings: E A D G (Lowest pitch to Highest Pitch). Most Five-String Bass Guitars have the some strings plus another string that is lower in pitch and larger in diameter, a B. If you play by using finger position patterns like I do, then the lower B string fits the same pattern. All you have to do is shift your left hand to a different position.

  • Nice!

  • Nice! Keep up the good work, man.

  • wat key is the 5th cord?

  • Because the 5 string has a low B.....but there are up to 9 string basses.

  • they are sticks, not basses because they have strings from normal guitar and bass so they can't be called bass x_X basses are up to 6 strings, not even more...

  • no. in two different levels.

  • what do some bases have 5 strings and others have 4 can someone message me telling me

  • dude you can get 4 string basses, 5 string, 6 string 8 string and 12 string, maybe 10 not sure.

  • Awesome stuff man!!!

  • dude that was fuckin sweet, lol. nice.

  • Sonic!! am learning Bass and I ve been trying to get the rhythm for long time!! But you are amazing mate..the quality of music you produce is too good and inspires me to play like you...Hats off

  • you are good. you should play funk metal:D

  • pretty good dude.

  • Dang dude you are amazing you don't care your missing a finger you just keep on trying to be better thats great i Admire you

  • awesome man!

  • that's the first i've ever heard a bass guitar sound so good

  • dude, thats nice, sounds great, and its awesome that you can do that with missing fingers...and that was supposed to be in a nice way :\ Haha.

  • Increible!!

  • Missing a finger and still playing? Nice job dude. Keep up the good work.

  • :O missing lots of fingers!!! good work mate!

  • travman102, that was plain awful

  • Beautiful tone.

  • do you have a guitar too

  • lovely job

  • Nice job. I own a 4-string Cirrus and think they are wonderful instruments. You are an encouragement to all who see you overcome obstacles to play bass! Keep the low end thumping, and thanks for your witness.

  • Excellent groove, I like your sound a lot. Much respect! I just had a chance to play the same bass at a local music store and I'm trying to figure out a way to buy it, it plays great.

    Keep it up!

    God bless

  • prly the best playin ive ever heard

  • Best ever? YIKES!

    Listen to VICTOR WOOTEN!

  • does i 5 string have one string lower or higher

  • generally a low B, though a guy i know used to have a five string with high C instead.

  • Really? That must be really rare o.o

I do like 6 stringed.. will put later sum videos :P

  • Did you lower the action, or is that from the factory?

  • are you missing a part of ur finger. great playing by the way

  • i have 10 full fingers, he's better than me....

  • lol :D

  • no dude, its a surgery called fingerology to shorten your fingers, which helps you play the bass guitar.

  • really? that is kinda stupid y would any one want to do that?

  • are you gay? he was being sarcastic.

  • ya i know but i ment if that was a reall thing.

  • ha ha that is the funniest answer i've heard on youtube !

  • dude! ya gotta love that low B, nice.
