dean cain was by far the worst Superman ever not just because of his size being too small, but also the wrong colouring which certainly didn't honour the tradition of Superman in any way shape or form, which stands to reason that those who like it, have'nt got 1 clue about Superman what soo ever...that was what made Smallville not only unique but 10 year smash because it was ''ALWAYS'' loyal to the mythos..not like this shit lois & clark, im glad it finished thank God...utter pile of crap
Also I got mention this Lois is so lame compared to Margret Kidder or the Lois portrayed in Smallville. This one is just a doe eyed cheer leader which I suppose is appropriate for a ex football jock; however both are lame for Superman and a real woman behind the man of steel. But there are people out there locked up in there own insecurity that would like Superman to be weaker than the great vision of what he is suppose to be; it makes them feel better about themselves rather than be inspired
Why the hell I ask would Superman break a sweat on a lousy subway train when he was able to lift the wing an engine less wing on the huge Air Force One plane in The Original Movie or totally stop a diving 747 from a full free fall into baseball stadium in Superman Returns with less struggle. Sorry...but this scene makes absolutely no sense and has no reference point with past Superman or future. This was the worst in history of Superman portrayals; Cain doesn't have the stuff Reeve had!
@zenjim007 agreed, but this series was supposed to portray Clark as an important character - much more than a simple disguise for Superman to get info and save the day - but as a way for Clark to "lead a normal" life as he himself puts it. I too like Superman being reeeeeeeeally strong as in Superman: The Movie or in Superman Returns, but I feel that this series gives Clark the importance he deserves...
@mrraamsridhar Well I think it just made Clark look stupid. And to sum up my feelings on Terry Hatcher; every time she walks in a scene I always expect the music score to change to porn and Ron Jeremy to grab her ass. Well "Desperate Housewives" is a more fitting role for her anyway. To sum up my feelings; if you like this show and "Smallville"; then more power to you; personally I am ready for some serious ass kicking full blown Superman action! Keep Superman strong!

@mcfuson37 Smallville is entertaining, fun, and a rip-snorting good time, however, Tom Welling's portayal is just too powerful. He could just leap up into the air and skim along the Earth's upper-atmosphere as if he didn't even break a sweat. Smallville is mostly computer-generated, repetitive, and it's the story of the "Clark Kent" persona, instead of the actual "Superman" ego.
Not really. Being super strong and super durable doesn't mean that you go through objects when they hit you. That's juts smallville style physics. What really should have happened (if we're being realistic) is that he should have been forced under it.
Well, the "Lois & Clark" adaption of Superman (Dean Cain, of course), was my favorite and still is. This scene is a perfect example of how Superman still has his limitations, but is still skilled and powerful enough when he needs to be. Also, we've seen this Superman fly much, much faster and use his strength to far more powerful levels in various episodes. I think this scene was just an example of respecting hero limitations, while keeping the "badass" meter in-check, yet at a good level.
@superstarwarsrocks Thanks, Super. I also think that build-up and suspense was a reason this scene was done the way it was. I think that's why they didn't just have him swoop down the line, 'cause there'd be little suspense. Lois mentioned in one episode that Superman could fly so fast as to not be seen, and we know he's much, much faster than what's shown here. So yeah, suspense may have been a reason.
@superstarwarsrocks Also, I think that if he would have met the train head-on with his FULL power, it would have stopped the train so hard and fast, the impact alone may have caused the following train cars to topple over and derail. Possibly injuring many and/or killing a few.
@superstarwarsrocks So, the way he stops the train, as shown here, which is gradually and a little at a time, could have been not only a key factor for suspense, but also showing that Superman actually plans out how he saves people to prevent unnecessary damage. Sorry I responded in so many comments. Man, I hate the text limit. xD
@WeAreBorg359 You may have top comment but Superman is SO much more powerful then this scene displays. I mean even in the pilot, if a man can lift an entire space shuttle into space with zero effort, stopping a subway train should be like flicking his wrist. I love the Lois and Clark series, and I love Superman, but this scene is a disgrace to Superman. This makes Superman look weak as hell, and pathetic. Its also not consistent with the power he's displayed in the series. Terrible scene.
@YuJaYu1 Well.... Yeah. This was a Superman based off the John Byrne/Post Crisis Superman who was heavily de-powered from the Silver Age Superman who could push planets out of orbit. It makes things more challenging for him.
Smallville's version is way too powerful IMO to have any serious threat to him if he can push Apokolips away from Earth. I mean that was just ridiculous.
@superstarwarsrocks What're you talking about? The Post-Crisis Superman is perhaps the worst Superman. L&C did a great job of making it entertaining, but as a comic-book fan, John Byrne really ruined Superman. This scene reflects some of the times I disliked the show.
Pushing planets should be capable for Superman IMO. Also, the whole chasing the train thing was kinda ridiculous. "Faster than a speeding bullet" after all.
@Superman13195 The "worst" Superman? Well, okay. I respect your opinion but I must wholeheartedly disagree. Some of the best Superman stories came from the Post-Crisis Superman IMO and the whole idea of weakening him from the planet pushing Superman of the Silver Age was to actually make things more challenging for him. Because unless his villains could do the same as he could, there is not much of a threat. As for the train scene, yes, inconsistency in powers but all shows are like that.
@superstarwarsrocks Make things more challenging? There are plenty of ways to do that than just depowering him. For starters, kryptonite (though an overuse of it can get annoying like in Smallville), Red sun radiation (which makes him powerless so long as he is exposed to a constant stream) and I guess magic, even though it's not a legit weakness.
There are also other ways. For instance, have you read Batman: Hush? There's a great fight between Batman and Superman in it.
@superstarwarsrocks CONTINUING- The fight between is just amazing due to the fact that Batman exploits some psychological weaknesses of Superman in order to beat him, and Jeph Loeb did an excellent job of doing so without depowering the Man of Steel (unlike stupid-ass Frank Miller). You really should read it if you haven't.
I always wondered what if the show had effects like Smallville. IT WOULD HAVE DESTROYED OTHER SHOWS. Too bad it was the 90's. It could have been the greatest thing ever to be on television. Still my personal fav Live Action Superman though.
@Faiz1990 Actually, L&C's effects got better and better each season. By Season 3, the FX were just about on par with the earlier seasons of Smallville and Season 3 was also the highest rated season of the series. It actually averaged over 10 million viewers per episode. That is until the fake marriage pissed people off and then it was downhill from there and the rest is history.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
