AAHH..The warmth, the confusion, and that space cadet glow!
Boy can I relate, I had to run away from the space cadet glowers on the floor at an Anaheim concert. I found a nice comfortable seat way up in the bleachers behind a pole where they didn't even sell the seats. Next album was the WALL... NOT surprised! And on the eighth day, God created PINK FLOYD.
Believe it or not this was the begining of Roger feeling alianated from the audience when he wrote the album The Wall. Roger has said he spit at a fan in a concert in Montreal leving him feeling alianed hence there was kind of a wall between him and the audience.
i had no idea a Floyds members could get a chance to spit in front a guy in the audience. I knew audience stood miles away from them in these concerts because the monstruos enormous Floyds machine-stage.
@molspaul Actually, this was a stadium show in front of 90,000 people. But the ditch in those days was only about three feet wide even at those shows. It's not until the last decade that they've been widened to like fifteen feet.
The Sex Pistols? Now that is business; "I got an idea! let's get some talentless retards to fuck around on instruments" says Mr. record company executive "and cash in on the flood of adolescent retards who buy this garbage!"
Don't confuse rock 'n roll with punk rock.
FYI: the whole "punk rock scene" is about as anti-conformist as the SS. You all look the same to me.
i think you're smart enough to refer to Pistols' manager Malcom Mc Laren, yeah that's true business matter. But for the talentness (but Johnny Lindon had some) adolescents was different. Talent at music has nothing to do with being a rocker. Punk was genuine rock'n'roll, back to the roots. Talented Floyds have nothing to do with rock'n'roll. Roger Waters himself will agree with me ;)
Early Floyd had its roots in the blues, just like all the classical rock 'n roll titans; Jimi Hendrix and the like. you could say that rock 'evolved' from the blues.
You can hear the blues influence on the guitar solos provided by Mr. Gilmore, but they were also progressive. I don't hear the blues in punk rock, nor do I hear anything progressive.
I like punk rock when I'm drinking with punk rockers, otherwise, I've got to say no. Punk just doesn't seem like rock to me
Rock doesn't mean ncessairily Rock'n'roll- that it's mostly blues played quicker, as C.Berry stated-. Everybody does rock (Floyds yeah) but not everybody rock'n'roll. You pointed out about anti-conformist, well that has necessairily nothing to do with rock'n'roll, that's a part of single people not a group or movement. Elvis Presley was a huge conformist but without contradiction still revolutionary. Yeah Gilmour is pentatonically blues in some solos. That's from a former Floyds fan.
You should read 'Black Vinyl, White Powder' by Simon Napier Bell. There is a great section about the 'grooming' of the Sex Pistols; had to instruct them to put their feet on the coffee table, stop saying 'please' and 'thank you' etc... Their image was as carefully constructed as anything else from the music business. Hilarious.
Roger Waters also felt it was childish and classless deep down, he felt alianated from the audience, he felt real bad after words, that's when he wrote the album the wall as he felt there was a wall between him and his audience, the Wall is also drawn out of Sid Barrets life as well his own. If he didn't do this he may not have wrote the album The Wall.
didn`t he spit at some 1 in montral???fair play floyds music is meant to be emotianal....these concerts led to him writing the wall and the idea of litteraly having a wall between performers and audiance...like he said in an interview most of the crowd was only there for the beer....fairplay 2 let off fireworks at some concerts but not floyd its too deep and moving music
How could they be so mean? He's using his time to play to these people and they don't even give a damn! YOU TELL EM' ROGER!!! LONG LIVE ROGER WATERS!!!

He left them because Gilmour was pissed at him. The fans thought that album "The Wall" was his solo project. they were fighting about it.

Rock 'N' Roll indeed. Self destructive anti conformist rockers like Sex Pistols. Not stuff for these business men like the Floyds.
