  • Do you know how the spinning system works? Like what makes it so easy to spin? I'm going to try to build one myself, but I'm not sure how to make it spin properly.

  • ...had Heron taken it(steam turbine) just 1 or 2 steps further and had put a pulley and transmission(which he did construct[ie.Antikythera Device] for various automatons and theatre-devices) ...we WOULD have had our, "flying cars" now...because the, "Industrial Revolution would've began within ancient Greece!

  • can you buy these?

  • fking badass engine design

  • how could u harness that energy to power a boat?

  • How much torque does it have? Can it drive a generator?

  • Hermosa y súper ingeniosa invención del griego Herón usada hoy en día... Saludos desde la República Argentina, país de creadores e inventores...

  • Can you tell me how much water it will hold and how long it will spin for with that amount of water please?

  • Very nice 'model', but that remark would suggest there was a real one ! Unlike like most steam power systems there is no re heat of the steam, to get more 'work' out of it. Great thing to muse on about on the shelf....but 'model', no.

  • It's called Heron's turbine because Heron described it about 2000 years ago! en wikipedia org/wiki/Aeolipile

The Greeks just didn't realize what they had. They considered it a toy.

  • will it blend?

  • I want to but one now......... I wish I could.... Wait is it way old or like super expensive???

  • @RoboticOwl7 Buy one? Why not build one? The design is pretty old, it was built when Jesus was still around.

  • Magnetic bearing?

  • The speaker somewhat sounds like Obama. Preach on Presidente!

  • @chaosawaits Except for, unlike the president, the speaker is telling scientific facts and not thinly-veiled lies.

  • haha i enjoyed it ver much thank you for sharing it

  • This is awesome. Thanks for sharing!

  • uhmmm.... ya- you would prolly put a blade on it... lol

  • Lovely! ^_^

Like Steam Punk Engine... How much Watt`s he has ?

  • thats interesting

  • i wonder if it could spin fast enough to get off the ground like a helicopter (though it would only be a novelty)..

i think that'd be worth a view on youtube :P

  • I doubt it would lift off at any speed as it does not have the lifting ability of a helicopter blade...definitely worth a video if it did happen!!!

  • @IndianaRog

Any high speed rotation can create lift, with the right propeller & weight ratio, simple.

    Have fun.

  • @IndianaRog If you attached strong, soft, rotorblades, and found a material that is reasonably light but highly heat resistant (aluminium, platinum? - probably both too heavy) I think it could easily work.

Although it would be cheating i guess because the heat from the flame would cause it to rise as well

  • @IndianaRog ...if you put a blade on top and figured out a way to counter the torque effect like a helicopter..but still really heavy

  • @oostermanju

Of course you can do that, just make one on a large scale, Very simple.

    Have fun.

  • THIS turbine never could. It has been designed to look awesome and spin very fast. You'd have to come up with a drastically different design with flight being the design goal from the very start.

  • @oostermanju watch?v=CGcRgEuCocQ

It runs on the same concept

  • Oh man .. this just gave me an idea for an even simpler version of this ... ooo ... gotta get into a small machine shop one of these days. :)

  • @Jesus45U

Now this man the right idea,

    do your thing playa.

  • I love it. Kind of like Hero's engine.

  • he said shaft... lol.. but that is really cool

  • Heron was so close to the industrial age, he just needed to attach some gears!!!

  • wowo it is pretty quite very nice , what is the efficency? I am loking at tesla turbines right noe

  • dedicate a otra cosa

  • Heron of Alexandria was the first gent to use this concept that I am aware of...maybe Archimedes dabbled with steam as well?? Heron made his version as a novelty, a toy...he didn't see the tremendous possibilities of using steam to do work.

  • Didn't Archimedes make something similar way back?
