What a fantastic racer Alan was. It had been said that another owner/driver will never win a championship. It only took 19 years for Tony Stewart to do it! I think Alan is smiling from up on high.
I would really like to have seen what he could have built for himself in this sport. it is a shame we will never find out . He was the one I would watch every Sunday at race time. He was such an inspiration to so many people
It's a shame he died makes u really appreciate how precious life is and how important everything is and for him to win a championship before he died that was truly something wonderful. It's just so sad
What I don't undertsand is, Alan has not had a "proper tribute" a fitting feature film I think I am going to secure his place in history with a movie but who would play Alan???
1992 was probably the most memorable year of nascar racing. 6 drivers had a chance at winning the title at the last race in Atlanta. Alan deserved this title after getting wrecked at the Dover Race putting him in 7th in the points. To come back and win it all (with the old points system) is amazing by today's standards. There will be never another driver like him and i'm happy to say at least I was able to watch the man race. I'm sure Jerry Kuwicki, his dad, is still a proud man of his son.
1992 was a turning point in NASCAR for me....the last race at Atlanta couldn't have been scripted any better...Kulwicki winning by 10 points...or essentially, mere inches on the track by leading the most laps....Richard Petty's last race...Jeff Gordon's first.....best race ever in my mind.....well, maybe not the best....but certainly the most dramatic. RIP Alan....still miss ya, champ!!
I've been looking for this video - thanks for sharing it. I still miss the times at Don's Pit Stop in Kaukauna on Thursday nights. Rest in peace, my friend.
Excellent video, It is unfortunate that I never got to see Alan race but my uncles went to the first Phoenix race (his first win) and said he just picked them off. Alan did it his way and thats why he won a title. Alan was one of the greats and there will never be another Alan
....Indeed, however, people looked at Alan as a darkhorse in winning the title and he knew well that he wasn't the favorite to win so he dubbed his Ford, "The Underbird"...I believe if you view the lower front end of his car at the season finale you can clearly see the wording and it's missing the "TH" in thunderbird! plus the mighty mouse logo is on the side of it. It's drivers like him who made the sport very unique, back in the day! I miss those days..

RIP, Alan. You are forver my inspiration, and the greatest driver ever to walk foot on the track.
When Alan died, the single guy, the team owner/driver, the Dave Marcis persona. It died with him.

Simply epic; I love it! I regret I don't remember much about Alan while he raced, but from what I've learned since then, he is truly an inspiration.

Yes, Alan Kulwicki did it his way, right down to the Polish Victory Lap - in the Hooters/Winner Ford Thunderbird. Class act!
