Do you like fantasy like this? F-14 is cow in the sky. It is not overmaneuver MiG-29. In real air fight F-14 would suck, because it was created to intercept russian bombers with missiles - and nothing more.
ino this sounds massivly nerdy of me, but that pane is a direct copy of an f-14, it has the f-14 thruster nacells(which are round) unlike the VF fightes of the origional macross (which had square nacells) i wonder why they changed it? they were cooler in the origional
I dont understand how you guys are saying the MiG-29 is similar to the F/A-18. The Hornet is not only a bit bigger (though not by much) but it also has a completely different body structure from the MiG. The only part that even slightly resembles each other is the tail thats it.
yeah a Mig-29 look a lot more like a F-15 Eagle....and I think the Valkrie was based off the F-14 Tomcat.....and Skull one shares the same color and emblem as the Jolly Rogers squadron.....any connection? =D
it is based on F-14 Tomcat and it is also based on the jolly Roger squadron and even share the name of the squadron in the original macross movie under the leadership of an american pilot named Roy Focker...

Well I'm just assuming that because you see its the US Navy (obvisouly) in the middle of some ocean and I don't think a MiG-29 would have the range to fly and and get into a engagement unless it was carrier based
well, maybe the carrier was near the Kola or Kamchatka peninsulas, and soem land-based MiGs came out to play. the F-14 has an unrefueled combat radius of 500 miles fully-loaded, and the MiG-29 could easily extend its range with aerial refueling... of course, we're taking this vid way too seriously, since the Macross people probably only specified that they wanted a MiG-29 in the vid...
MIG-29s are a European Fighter design and are not meant for long hauls like American Fighters.
This is the result of the Cold War.
If it became World War Three, and WMDs were not deployed, it would have been tank battles as the primary deciding factor backed by infantry and helicopters.
Therefore, jets, especially long range jets were of low priority or could be developed during the course of the war.
Only the USA with two oceans between it and all others was the opposite.
That's true, the MIG-29 is rather short legged in comparission with American made Fighters, in fact most of Europe's fighters are short legged, even the Naval Variants a throw back to the Cold War when the mission was to attack Russia over land.

Its called Macross, this particular anime is called Macross Zero. There are a bunch of them though, you should check em out

well the first plane shown IS an F-14 and the VF-0 is the prototype Valkyrie with normal Turbofan engines and BASED on the F-14.

the one that takes off at the start is an f-14 tomcat, and he shoots down an f-18 i think. the one with the white paint is a veritech.
