Although Mark Rutte might operate fully his party public, Dutch citizens do know who they are dealing with. Rumours have it that Mark Rutte is an indoor closet homosexual. Having lot's of votes right now could change when coming out for his sexuality. Foreigner groups might even change their views and voting. If he would come out he would be gay and a racist for denying the holocaust.
The US president can come over then the economic crisis is solved. I'm not blaiming Obama for the crisis, that's Bush' fault, but we all have other things to do.
He sometimes knows what he says. You clearly don't.
Sure I can blaim him. I'm Dutch and I've managed to learn to speak with a British accent. Currently working on scouse. A lot of Dutch people use English slang in Dutch sentences. Like they have forgotten the Dutch word for things like "issue". It pisses me off and even more so when they mispronounce it.
Why would he have to work on it? You can understand him perfectly, he merely has a bit of an accent. Not to mention that there is no standard English accent. In the UK you'll find dozens of different accents and the same goes for north America. Why would it matter that someone speaks with a Dutch accent?
Because for me being Dutch, it sounds rediculous! I've worked hard to speak English with a British accent and it has sort of paid off. Some people think I'm British.
Who cares how it sounds? He was born in a different country so he will most likely sound different. Do you know how many political leaders need to bring a translator to meetings like this? At least Rutte knows how to speak English and knows what he means when he speaks it
Also, your accent isnt perfect either. It's either a mixture of different accents or the accent of a specific region. So it's either non-existent or the accent of a minority of English speakers.
We Dutch people care because if you learn to speak a language, atleast pronounce it correctly. We don't seem to have that much problems with German or French and even Swedish works so why are so many people having trouble with English? I know that a lot of people bring a translator but that depends on the country culture.
Now I've had enough about this stupid discussion. Mark's English accent is rediculous and he needs to do something about it because he is representing our country.
We Dutch people? Did you suddenly become the voice of the nation? We actually have problems with all languages, we can just spot the faults easier in English.
This discussion is indeed stupid, but that's because he doesnt have to work on his accent. Do you think other politicians give a fuck? No, they come in contact with dozens of foreign politicians and most of them have more problems with their English than they have with Rutte's.
He doesnt look like an ass. Politicians dont give a fuck about the accent of other politicians because they understand that English isnt the only language on the planet. His accent mainly seems ridiculous to us because we're Dutch. Politicians are far more impressed with statistics and reports than they are with pronunciation "issues".
Do you think that Obama will respect someone less because of their accent? Like I said earlier a lot of politicians bring translators along with them. It's probably good enough for him that he doesnt have to speak through someone to communicate with Rutte.
Like I said: it will earn him MORE respect. Is it realy that much of a problem to understand what I'm typing?
Yea the French always bring a translator because they're too stuborn to learn English (which is true, they don't like it). The French have never been appreciated by native english speaking people neither :P
More respect? He'll get more respect by taking on proper legislation. He'll get more respect by supporting foreign policies of the US, he'll get more respect by providing monetary aid to NATO. Getting rid of his Dutch accent will perhaps earn him a pat on the back from his English teacher.
You just seem to have a very warped perspective on global politics. It kinda seems like you're projecting your own wishes onto Obama.
You're done because you lack proper argumentation. You try to pawn of your own opinion as a collective opinion. You made claims, I asked for evidence to back it up and you dodged the question and started talking about something else. Good job.

You haven't heard me talking yet so you can't comment about my accent, moron.
But ofcourse it isn't perfect. And ofcourse an accent is spoken by a minority... What you are saying makes no difference on any level. Now stop crying about what I think is best for my country.
I dont have to hear your accent to know that it's either fabricated or only spoken by a minority. There are dozens of British accents. Dutch-English is just as much an accent as London-English. The pronunciation difference between Dutch-English and the English Obama speaks is about the same as the difference between London-English and Obama's English.
Also, stop claiming to speak for the entire Dutch populace.
Fabricated? If you start out with a language ofcourse it will be fabricated at the start. Later on you'll do so without noticing yourself. This shows you indeed have trouble with other languages and have no knowledge about it.
WHERE WAS I CLAIMING TO SPEAK FOR THE ENTIRE DUTCH COUNTRY!
Fabricated as in it's not an actual British accent but an interpretation of multiple British accents. There are dozens of British accents, yours is either a combination of several of those, or the adaption of a single one. Either way, it's not an absolute pronunciation.
Where were you claiming to speak for the Dutch populace?
"We Dutch people care because if you learn to speak a language, atleast pronounce it correctly."
I wasn't claiming to speak for Dutch people there.
example: Mark Rutte wasn't chosen by a majority. But a majority did get him to become president. I simply say what the majority think. You are part of the minority here :)
Like I said: ofcourse my accent isn't perfect but its good enough and improving and better then a Dutch accent. Now whats th problem?
Oh really? Can you provide me with the statistics in which it shows that the majority thinks what you think?
Oh and what the problem is, there isnt any. You're making a problem of something that isnt a problem though.
And as far as your accent goes, my entire point is, is that there isnt a perfect English language. There are so many different accents and dialects that there is no standard pronunciation for English.

"We Dutch people"
Oh so you wouldn't mind if your president looks like an ass in other countries (J.P. Balkenende for example).
He is the face of your country at that moment so its commen sence everyone wants him to look at his best!
How hard is that to understand.
"We have problems with all languages". No, THAT is your problem, not mine.
Yes politcions give a fuck because in order to get things done you need to leave an impression. Balkenende failed at that all the time.
