It's recently been discovered that hpv (human papilloma virus) is also a common cause of some head and neck cancers, mostly of oropharangeal cancers - cancers of the back of the tongue and tonsils and the tonsillar pillars and throat.
Hpv is the cause of most cervical cancer cases in women, and can cause other cancers in the genital areas of both sexes including vaginal, vulvar, penile and anal cancers. It seems it's rather easily transmitted by oral sex. (continued in my three posts below)
Both males and females can be carriers of the cancer-causing strains of hpv. The more oral sex partners you have the more likely you are to develop oropharangeal cancer later in life. I know this is a fly in the ointment for oral sex enthusiasts but it's good to know about this information so we can make wise decisions when it comes to oral sex and our long term health. Some good news is that the majority of hpv infections people get are successfully fought off by their immune systems.
Here's how to find two other good media presentations on this topic.
1. an audio podcast from Johns Hopkins Medicine: remove the M from Morg in this link and paste it into your browser, and when the page opens, find and click on "Listen to podcast now"
2. An infographic on the The Mount Sinai Hospital website called Can I get cancer? from oral sex? Remove the M from Morg in this link and paste it into your browser
Hmm, my friends dad has been smoking like a chimney scine he was 12 (he's now 65 I think) and 'likes' a drink shall we say and there nothing wrong with him.
Hum In France, men smoking rate has been divided by 4 whereas women's smoking rate has been increasing. Women make the same bullthits than men. Women smoke more and more because of stress at work. Well, women don't want to stay at home as housewives anymore, but they want to work. Smoking is the consequence.
