  • Jerry never ceased to amaze. I could swear when he starts his rasqueado, his middle finger disappears

  • nigger

  • The harmonica is amazing.

  • Great song. Look at the version by Mike Brock, he burns it up as well - from his lap.

  • The band's pretty damn good too :)

  • Hope Jerry will be watching us and me from the skies when I blaze the streets playing his cd's in my Yank Chevy.

  • Would loved to have seen him and Mr. Allman on one stage

  • That's it, I quit! Who wants an Esteban guitar? (running for cover).

  • 13 people don't know what a guitar is

  • That looks like a Peavey Bravo in front of the stage; I have one and it's awesome.

Great performance from a true legend!

  • Damn! Crazy harp player! :o

    Respect!

  • Dear Lord I have to wonder what the miles per hour must be on those musicians fingers must be !!!!!

  • Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaa!

  • anyone know what type of guitar that is jerrys playing? i love the cut out on it it looks so cool i wanna get one or at least look them up.

  • @1125112511251125 Jerry was known for playing Baldwin acoustic guitars. Nylon strings obviously. Gibson owns Baldwin now

  • You can't find talent like this in music these days.

  • Holy Shit, very talented

  • holy crap, how does anyone get their hands to move that fast...miss you jerry!

  • Great version of this classic. wwwpeterbanjocom

  • I sit, entranced, alternately weeping and grinning, everytime I watch this video. The Alabama Wildman had talent, personality and integrity and the only thing missing is...well...Jerry...

  • The musicianship from all the players here is faultless ( not that anyone is noticing or caring to look for such things ). Please email this and any of your other favourite pieces of music to people you know, or better still, people you may know directly or indirectly thats credible in film or TV. Jerry's music and sincerity within it must not be forgotten...If there is ever a life story that could be made with a decent director and a great soundtrack, then look no further than Mr Jerry Reid.

  • If anyone could make being a God look easy, Jerry could.

  • Mr. Reed was awesome!

Wasn't he picked as guitar player of the year around 1971?

  • Damn...Jerry rips it up man...

  • He's a better banjo player than he ever was a guitar player. (I'm talking about the banjo player)

  • @capitalismforme what is that banjo players name.. do you know? he's killer

  • @2k9JT Fred Newell. He was the lead guitar player for the Nashville now band on the Ralph Emery show.

  • @2k9JT It might be Clint Strong, just a guess.

  • man i love his guitar the old nylon string Baldwin... -thumbs up if you love it too-

  • anyone know who the banjo player is?

  • What happened to music =/

  • à l'arminica c'est légèrement abusé la rapidité :D

  • read the book the transformation of america and take a look what this man really is

  • The banjo player looks like John Bonham.

  • @dawoool damnnnnnnnnnnnnn your'e so right man!

  • When it comes this effortlessly, it is God-given.

  • Gotta love those bell bottoms :)

  • Why did'nt Chet Atkins make Jerry Reed a CGP?

  • @scrollandkey What's a CGP?

  • @dawoool Certified Guitar Player

  • @scrollandkey

    He did.

  • @scrollandkey he did

  • YOU THE BEST RIP JERRY WE MISS YOU

  • accordion wins.

  • Love ya', Jerry....

But that's quite a get-up you got on there...

  • This is addictive.

  • Man he sure could make a guitar talk.

  • Man! That is what I call a tight band!

  • ''getaway music'' !! XD

  • snowman

  • UNDER RATED....

  • acojonante!!! very good

  • i'd like to see Dragon Force beati Jerry Reed's finger sweeping skills..

  • @KeyOfStrife I'd like to see Jerry play Through The Fire and Flames. I'm not kidding, I would have enjoyed seeing him do that song, on an acoustic guitar. then it might have been a tolerable peice of music.

  • @jessupar Even better: I'd like to see DragonForce guitarists try to play Jerry Reed.. They'd fail. Playing acoustic requires real skill.

  • Wow he is incredible I wish I was half as good

  • Throwin out those 3's&7's for the snowman R.I.P

  • Breaker breaker for that snowman, RIP My friend your music will live forever!

  • R.I.P Jerry Reed. Miss you. You are best!

  • @AlexanderUltimate Iam from czech rep. Jerry was great music men..thak you BIG jerry

  • @AlexanderUltimate BIG JERRY NO.1

  • crazy shirt.

  • OH YEAH. And what a band! See how the FIRST thing Jerry does is turn to his band and let them know they done good. Jerry in his prime for sure.

  • They just replayed this "Pop Goes The Country" on RFD TV last week, also Papas Knee and Jerry and Chet play I'll say she does.

  • Wow. I wish I could do that on a guitar. I'd never be that good in a million.

  • I'm not much a country guy unless you're talking Jerry Reed and Roy Clark. This song is the best rendition i have ever heard.

  • is this the only recording of this song? cause jerry reed (being one of the worlds definite greatest guitarists and musicians) CLEARLY has the best version. too bad i cant find any other recordings than this... can i???

  • The Essential Jerry Reed CD has this song as number 2.

  • Wow, thanks a lot :D

  • @generalserling I was a bit disappointed by The Essential Jerry Reed, to be honest, and especially the studio version of Alabama Jubilee. They replaced this EPIC bluegrass version with a boring (by comparison) country version. The Essential is a collection of slow and very clean versions of his songs. I'd rather hear him rockin' his guitar like only he could. THAT'S why i think he's one of the greatest musicians to ever walk the earth.

  • you can i know he did not make this song I can usally answer these questions but i forgot who did this but this is the best verison i have to dig in my cd collection i have alot of music dating back to the early 20's and i am only 27 i love the older stuff i can get back with you

  • so you have the official recording of this song on a cd??? wow, if u can just give me the name i would be forever grateful, my friend! i too dislike most new stuff, and listen mostly to 20s - 70s music ^^ jazz, bluegrass, ska, rock n roll, blues, funk and reggae mostly ^^

  • red foley is his name i think I am almost sure of it This song came out of the 40's or early 50's

  • found it. it's from the album "country music hall of fame". but that's not what i was hoping for, im looking for any recording of jerry reed's version, which is clearly the best, imo. and he has several versions, and i of course only want THIS version, because it's so unbelievably awesome :)

  • this is his only verison

  • well, he has a slower, boring version on his Essential Hits cd, but its not the same :/ really wish there was a better recording of this!

  • @leirgauk, There is another version more like this one, it's on his Both Barrels album, someone posted the album up here on youtube.

  • @Waymore15 Wow, thank a lot, n man :D That's awesome! xD

  • @leirgauk, No problem, just thought it would help.

  • this song is much older.bands like the skillet lickers were doing this in the 20's.check out document records catalog for this typr of stuff or smithsonian folkways.

  • I miss the ol' boy :) Rest in peace Jerry.

  • they are all displaying unquantifiable greatness with their playing....but we all know who owns this one...:)

    RIP J.R.

  • The harmonica player had to hustle.

    Ron

  • Nice bell bottoms

  • Great melodies,THANK FOR SHARING ;

    greetings from brasil

  • R.I.P

  • RIP Jerry...I'll always love your music!

RIP Jimi...you did good too... even if you couldnt keep up with the Goergia wildman...not many could.

  • "Ma Boy Ma Boy" !

    Jerry Rocks !!

    Ols :o)

  • You know that times had changed in country music when the banjo player has long hair and a beard :)

  • What kind of banjo is this?

    R.I.P Jerry

  • I've got an acoustic guitar and a banjo. But, i still don't know how to play chords like that. I bought the banjo just for the hell of it. LOL To maybe one day get good like Grandpa Jones and Roy Clark. I think....NOT! Too damn hard! The banjo is lots more challenging than an acoustic guitar, Totally! Even though, it's a pattern, it's still difficult...to me it is anyway.

  • yeah I play it and it is quite difficult at first but stick with it.

  • i'm not one to compare guitarists, but Jerry is my favorite. would be interesting if we could see him, chet, jimi and others jam together. maybe throw in george harrison as well

  • LOL... yes, that would've shown who was talented and who was just a showman! Chet and Jerry could've played da blooz but there's no way in hell Jimi could've even strummed with Chet & Jerry. Harrison was better than most give him credit for, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Something" are two of the best Beatles songs ever. Great melodies. He also did great fills and backup runs throughout other songs.

  • His playing was so clean and precise, and wow, was he fast! Awesome band, too. There is just nothing today on TV or the radio that compares to this, or other similar performances from this era. And Jerry was as cool as they come. The Fonz couldn't even hold a candle to him!

  • RIP jerry!!! u were the best picker the world has seen! not to mention your great country accent voice!!! greetings from sweden!

  • As hot as it gets.

  • Jerry was liked for his novelty songs, Like Amos Moses, but he was LOVED for his picking, as in this song... check him out with Chet Atkins, another of the best (probably the VERY best) pickers ever.

  • I've enjoyed the occasional radio song form Jerry Reed for 35 years, but I never ever knew he was a guitar virtuoso. WOW.

  • take a look at lightining rod or City of New Orleans on the tube...Jerry Reed was 1 in a million.

  • I'd say 1 in a trillion.

  • Now that's what's commonly known in the trade as talent.

God bless you, Jerry. Big respect from us over in England. The world is a poorer place without you.

  • Cant believe I just discovered this artist... Wow very impressive! -F

  • sick banjo!!

  • Jerry was just remarkable, Jeeez what a talent

  • RIP Snowman!!!!

  • Anyone who hasn't heard the album "Old Dogs", with Jerry and Waylon and Mel Tillis and Bobby Bare on a set of songs written by Shel Silverstein needs to try to do so. Especially JR on "Old Man (Tryin' to do a Young Man's Job)" and Waylon on "I Don't Do It No More" and "Time".

And all four having a high old time on "You're Still Gonna Die".

  • Haha.. John Bonham on banjo

  • It's bluegrass. That precedes rednecks that you're defining as modern rural people. With that in mind, it's ok to enjoy that BADASS ensemble of great musicians.

While you're at it, Roy Clark isn't "redneck" in the modern sense of the word either and his rendition is awesome too.

  • I know some people who could maybe equal that on an electric guitar.

I suspect Richard Thompson could equal or even better it on an acoustic.

    But not many others could...

  • Oh Yeah?

  • It's ok to be intimidated by these musicians but don't go comparing apples to piles of horse shit.

Jerry Reed used every single one of his fingers to play his guitar. Your boys play a pick for their electric leads. playing with all fingers are superior to a pick.

  • It's a matter of doing what's appropriate for what style you play.

Just because you play with a pick does not make you an inferior musician to one who uses all his fingers.

  • There's some ppl who can do amazing things with a pick, however, if you have a guy playing lead on 2-4 strings as opposed to one then yes, it is superior.

Just listen to that guitar or banjo and tell me that wouldn't jam the fuck out with some distortion on an electric guitar.

    But i respect your opinion.

  • I didn't actually mean in terms of skill.

Yes, it's definitely more skillfull, but skill isn't everything. For example, I'd say Jimi Hendrix is better than say, Yngwie, or Michael Angelo Batio, even though they have far more technical skill.

    Anyways,

Thumbs up for you for being a civil youtuber XD

  • I agree with that. Jimi was the best. touche'

And i'm not really civil, i like to go on the Toby Keith threads and "Praise Allah so i can smite the infidels". It's a laugh everytime.

  • Nice to meet you Negative Nancy.

  • Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins are the two best pickers to ever live. Period. Listen to Red House at Randall Island, particularly the solo. Jerry or Chet could not improvise that on the spot even with a gun to their head. Jimi's brilliance is not in his sheer technical skill, but in his limitless imagination and the fact that he advanced the electric guitar so much in only 3 short years.

  • you sir, have no clue. Jimi could've bent a string, humped his amp and rattled the guitar against the mic stand but when it came to actually PLAYING the damn thing, he couldnt have hung with Chet or Jerry for more than 10 seconds. Jerry could play funky blues, but Jimi couldnt play funky country. It's a moot point, 2 totally different guys.. but Jimi is the most overhyped picker in history. Strip away the showman / circus crap, and you've got a mediocre player.

  • Your right, it is a moot point...it's useless arguing with an idiot.

  • Here Here..I have argued that exact point for years!!!

  • That comment was a reply to Ih8thisshit

  • Glad somebody shares my clarity. Jerry could act the fool for effect, but he could sit still and blow minds. Jimi's career was in decline and he was sucking badly near the end. Had he lived, he would've either ended up a wino or playing street carnivals in the ghetto. Psychedelia was dying, and real musicians like Duane Allman were coming on strong. Jimi would've just been another whackjob had he not died being stupid (a self inflicted drug death).

  • Actually, I disagree. I feel Jimi would have utilized his improv. skills & would have become a monster in other styles had he the time. He learned Sgt. Peppers in 2 days before it was released & shocked McCartney with it at the Bag O' Nails--he clearly had a superior sense of musicality & only needed small help.

He was taking theory lessons before he died & was also considering joining Emerson, Lake and Palmer (no joke! Hendrix, Emerson, Lake and Palmer--imagine that).

  • I wonder if they would have actually called the band HELP.

    *Ray*

  • I disagree. I love both styles, but you (kinda said) don't compare apples to oranges. It's different, nothing is superior... Seeing Jerry amazes me as Zakk Wylde...

  • Exactly Zakk is really talented, but can't be compared to Jerry because of the different styles

  • definately apples to oranges, but i definately agree that jimi is imensely overhyped, and jerry reed, for the most part, unsung

  • hell yeah!

  • This was back in the day when musicians didn't have to be sexy and beautiful to get the attention of the record companies. The truly talented made it to the top.

  • AMEN THAT'S THE TRUTH R.I.P.Jerry Reed 1937-2008 JERRY REED NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jerry Reed, a singer who became a good ol boy actor in car chase movies like Smokey and the Bandit, has died of complications from emphysema at 71.

  • So true

  • That is some serious shredding

  • Jerry was the man Snow Man

  • Awesome picking boys! That banjoplayer kinda look like Kurt Russel. But its awesome picking!

  • He was full of energy! My man, rest in peace.

  • Dang,that Jerry was a son of a gun!

  • Why do all Banjo players have to be so sick!? Do you automatically get that good when you touch a Banjo? Same with a violin, I've seen ONE bad violin player in mi days.

  • The bass and drums aren't so bad either :)

  • absolute SIN at this past Oscars that he wasn't metioned amongst those who we lost in '08

    shameful

  • I haven't been able to force myself to watch the Oscars or Grammys in years so I missed that. That's pretty shitty of them though. They don't make em like Jerry any more.

  • Who plays the banjo?

  • I think it's jesus

  • haha, that banjo player is pretty sick

  • Jerry is simply amazing

  • Hå hå,her snakker vi slengbukser ja!!!!

  • I think I was born into the wrong generation. Need to add this one to the iPod though...

  • don't worry it will come back around. The kids just woke up to stuff like the ink spots because some game company put old tracks in a computergame. The kids like good music regardless of genre, but noone cool is presenting them to it.

  • Yeah..., you'll be damn glad ya did...rip on Jerry!!..

  • You're absolutely right!

  • I love a great harmonica! Anyone know who that guy is?

  • That's the great Terry Mcmillan on the harp. He passed away last year. There's some good stuff on here of him.

  • Awesome! Thanks.

  • isn't that a peavey speciall 112?

  • Indeed! Excelent performance; Jerry Reed hit the jackpot with this musicians.

  • This is the most amazing version of this i've ever heard. And coincidentally, Roy Clark's version is AWESOME too!

  • Yes , can you imagine the Mummers trying to keep with this tempo marching in Philly on New Years' Day? Ferko maybe...the rest, naaah.

    Tom in Utica

  • that cut away is interesting....its flat

  • Is that Jimmy Henley on the banjo?

  • this is bluegrass, not country, right?

  • Probably safe to call it an early version of "Newgrass". Many hardcore bluegrassers say drums not allowed, even though Flatt & Scruggs had drums here & there.

  • hahaha jerry reed from alabama hahaha you kidding me hes from palmetto which is about 15 miles from my house.

  • great!yyhaaaaa!

  • WOW!

  • yeah, last time I checked...

    ATL was STILL in GA

  • Jerry had no equal when it came to pickin'R.I.P. Jerry you rule!

  • Jerry Reed was born in Atlanta GA.. March 20,1937

  • In pure Ralph Emery "screw up in introducing a guest" fashion......"Georgia wildman....."

    Reed was from Alabama.
