i love how all bike maintenance vids use brand new bikes... when you come to fix something on your own bike, it's usually impossible to see what the hell's going on for all the muck and grime covering everything!!!
I am soon in need of changing out my pads. I have read that after you remove the old pads, you will need to push the pistons out before installing the new pads. I didn't notice the mechanic doing this in the vid. Is it necessary?
Need to push the pistons in the caliper back out. The easiest way to do this is with a broad screwdriver or similar. If you prise the pistons apart with the old pads still in place there's little risk of damaging the pistons themselves. Owners of brakes with manually-adjustable clearances (like Hope C2s and most varieties of mechanical disc) will need to wind the relevant adjusters out.
i did just this, but the pistons won't reset and it's left a gap far too narrow, i've tried levering the pads back out and all but nothing works! :S what can i do to fix this?
How comes my new pads still in full contact with disc?? I even pushed calliper fully out before installing new pads...(elixer R 2010).
I will try again next month when my SIDEBURNS fully grow...
