  • Hey! What is you Aquarium substrate?

  • @2001naveedpk Shrimp Friendly substrate, for plants. Can't remember name of brand but it's Japanese packaging :D

  • 34skilz. Or whatever your motherfucking name is. Who the fuck asked your retarded opinion. Mother fucker you got no friends you emailing me for Go make babies with your sister.

  • that great work thank you

  • Looks good though I could do with one on my huge tank.

  • One prawn fried rice please. Looks good, why on earth would you need simp specially one that big for some shrps and a few neons. Way to much. All you need is a decent external filter.

  • @powderbluetang321 LOL I'm testing out DIY methods, I know it's a little over kill but it's fun doing it.

  • @powderbluetang321 There are more then just a "few" shrimp, and "few" neons in there... i'm not really sure if maybe you are blind? ignorant? maybe stupid? He has such a huge bioload in that tank with the shrimp and fish everywhere. Those little fish add up quite quickly. You can never have "too much" filtration. The cleaner the better.

  • awsome :D

  • @spankyobi This is taken 2 years back while I'm pretty bad in my confidence level in recording a video. HAHA you are right my English then & confidence level pretty low.

Thank you for commenting thou :D

  • @spankyobi

F*** English, get how to diy.

  • @spankyobi wow, that was a pretty fucking rude comment, maybe you should learn not to be such an asshole.

  • @spankyobi Don't be a prick.

  • @spankyobi . If you don't like his video, piss off and watch something else you fucking prat

  • The Aquarium looks great but, get that dam sump out of sight, it looks terrible. The PVC that's I your display tank doesn't have to go so far down in the tank.

  • disgustoso

  • you're a singaporean?

  • @death0dying Yes I am :D

  • @death0dying Yes

  • did you breed those shrimp?

    location n price pls...........

  • @teluxks Singapore....Clementi Blk 328 Price depends on the species...mine is Cherry Red Shrimps which is the cheaper types but still nice :D When in packet...not very nice looking but once you give it good water & conditions...the red color becomes very nice.

  • I just watched to hear your accent. It intrigued me for some reason. And great overflow. Thanks for the explanation

  • @TheSphistak LOL thanks! :D

  • buy stuff for 5 dollars that clears up the cloudy ness

  • @Heartless9411 that's like many years ago..now it's crystal clear :D

  • why is it that the onl;y huy to try and properly explain this concept i cant understand very well. :(

  • @kurei008 Basically the concept is about pressure differences inside & outside. Anyone can explain it properly kindly help :D

  • Great video. Good job on the commentary as well.

  • Sorry for my inapropreat comment thanks for the video

  • @Manicwensday1 You are welcome! :D

  • I wish you would speak english

  • @Manicwensday1 Thanks for your comments and I will take note of that.

  • so you need to sip the water to be able to start it?

  • @gianolrac You need to fill the tubes with water & cover all openings and then put tube in position before letting the opening go. Another way is to suck the water...that's not going to be good if you drink some.

  • how to start the water to siphon down?

  • fuckin rag head

  • my tank is clearer than that and i dont have a DIY sump

  • Your hand effects are the BEST.

  • for how much gear you got in that 30 gal, it sure is cloudy lol

  • If the power goes off do you have to re start the syphon again when the power returns?

  • @abaneyone it will provided there are no air leakage, use black tape or some things to seal off all the connection tubes. the water will stop syphon when the water level falls below the tube entrance but water trapped inside will still contain the syphon pressure with water.

After water pump back into the tank slowly, the water flows into the entrance ....it will activate back the syphon...but makes sure no bubble get too large in the tubes.

  • great job

  • explained very well thank you, i like your tank and what you have done with it, how do you keep a correct co2 level in your tank???, what would you recommend???

do you think DIY co2 systems work well??? i appreciate your interests in your fresh water aquarium. good luck in the future

  • @koolthing187 Thank you! :D Firstly, I didn't really monitor the CO2 level but I did use a timer to turn on the CO2 tank electronic valve to only open when the lights are on so that the plants breath in CO2 at the right time. ^_^

  • hahaha, hi from ur fellow singaporean mate. beautiful tank btw.how did you get the grass to grow beautifully? has it covered the substrate?

  • @hafizfelix2000 Hey hey thanks! :D The moss is slow growing plants that grows easily with a stable environment with 55 Watt lights :D U can add CO2 to accelerate the growth :D

  • nice diy filtration! singaporean? :D

  • @bakernade Yes! Singaporean I am :D

  • @simontay78 what is the thing that is below ur buckets?what brand is ur pump?looks lyk mine

  • @9912699125 cannot remember the brand ler

  • @simontay78 should be written on the pump, what is the brand?

  • @9912699125 Bro, don't matter the brand as long as it works :D

  • @simontay78 is it atman?i am asking u for the sake of asking,i think mine look lyk urs so....

  • @simontay78 how do you make the water now cloudy?use charcoal?

  • @9912699125 you mean how I make the water less cloudy? hmmm I think it's the multi layer sump filtration buckets :D

  • you can try water clarifier for your cloudy water and you tank looks great i may set up my new tank to look somthing like yours keep it up i sub

  • @dakotab619 Thanks! :3 My tank got cleaner after implementing the DIY sump :3

  • looks terrible

  • dis is fishies da asian way -_-

  • i have never heard of a "siphoning overflow" system. it seems that the only drawback to it is the visual aspect, which can ultimately be hidden with rock/wood. I have a simple siphoning system into a sump where the pump is faster than the siphon.. not good if the electricity goes out. The only thing i have to suggest is for the "jump start" tube,: could you just use a hose to force water through the front opening to jump start it?

  • @twizzlerx25 Interesting idea, the hose supposedly connect to a tap will be in theory filled up the tube & able to top up the water at the same time...& jump start the process...probably work but need more trial & error since the part to fill up must be air tight in order to start the siphon.

  • @simontay78 u are a singaporean?nice teras and tank

  • @9912699125 Yes I am :D

  • @simontay78 can you show the medias and how u made the sump?on the light pls

  • @9912699125 Oh you mean the filter media or medium? Bottom layer is Bacteria rings, 2nd layer is activated charcoal, last top most layer is filter foam cut in circle to fit just nice to the pail.

It's a simple design, simply stack multiple pails with holes drilled at the bottom...LOTS OF HOLES... :D

Maintenance is a bitch but makes sure the holes are not blocked.

  • @simontay78 what is the total cost of the whole sump and overflow(including medias)

  • @simontay78 do you put those kind of tablets for ur plants?i want to setup a planted tank with some shrimp, cherry barb and neon tetras.......

  • seems like a over-complex way of doing something simple.

  • @MrJimbobwae Unfortunate but sadly true LOL but this is a better way compare to other alternatives for shrimp tank :D

Do let me know if you have a better way to do this task of filtering the water with a sump without killing baby shrimps :D Love to hear your view :D

  • @MrJimbobwae but at a much less price and also with no drilling on the tank. i'd like to see more of the diy sump tho.

  • @deeboi619 The sump is a simple stacking of multiple buckets with holes drilled all over the bottom of all the buckets. I put filter medium in all the buckets & the top buckets with filter foams.

A vegetable washing basket on top to spread the water & all the pipes lead to that basket. The bottom is a big Ikea transparent box that have two layers, the top layer I made a hole just big enough for the pail to go in half way but not all the way so that it floats half way.

  • @simontay78 what is the lph of ur pump?

  • how much are you selling them?

  • @TheJbShows Well, Message me direct via email :3 simontay78 @ gmail . com

  • i need help making this can you please show me dimension i am heading to buy my pvc pipes tomorrow

  • @MiniReef17 you can use any pipe size but preferably less than 5 cm in diameter because you need to suck the pipe some how if you are using my method...so the mouth cannot open that wide. when buying the pipes try to fit the elbows to the pipe and see if they fit nicely without white tapes.

  • nice setup... fish looks amazing!

  • @msh464 Thanks!

  • very cool!

  • @reptilefan9000 Thanks! :D

  • wow this is ott.i am sure the water treatmeant on the iss is simpler

  • Do check out the older video of this project :D The sump is explained more on that vid

  • Its hard to explain over comments but if you make the length of the tube on the outer side of the tank the same height as the tube on the inner side (your outer side tube is shorter) you will not have to re-prime your siphon if the water level dips below the top of the overflow. Even in the event of pump failure or power outage when the water level is down for a long time, the overflow will resume as soon as the water level rises again without the need to be primed. Hope that makes sense

  • You may have a point however the siphoning effects might not be strong. Imagine the hose effects with leveled height...the siphoning will trickle down.

Good news is I tried to switch off the power of the pump and find that there's isn't a 100% break in tube with air which instead trapped some water inside making it possible to re-prime it automatically after turning back the power.

Reason is the outer tube have a U shape filled with water trapped the water in tube inside the tank

  • My explaination was kind of hard to understand and may not have come across how I wanted it to. I have a video of my DIY overflow and sump where you can see the type of design i am referring to.

  • i have the same overflow made of 3/4 PVC it can handle my 317 GPH pump, i reduce the noice by inserting airline tubing half way through the intake pipe and it works, it reduces the gurgling sound.

  • Do you have a video on that? :D

Now I just love the sound dripping from the pipes to the sump :3 very soothing hhahaah

  • Nice idea but shit design looks untidy and it's very noisy. It overshadows the aquarium

  • haha the video camcorder microphone recorded the noise too much I guess, if you are 1 meter away from it...you can't hear anything.

Noise or not I'm not sure but some may use the water flowing sound as a relaxing tool...haha

  • very good my friend

  • Thanks!

  • @simontay78 - wow you have lots of shrimp, do they breed easily?

  • 2:50 lol

  • hahaha my early days of filming still inexperienced LOL

  • U needs a pump to pump water into the tank

  • Am trying to figure out how this system works. Is your tank running entirely on siphone? or only the part going from the tank into the sump? Now can this method of regulating different pressures in the tubes be used on a 125 gal? I mean can the same method used to apply a bigger tank like a 125g? Thank you.

  • Make sure your sump is a big big tank if possible get those ikea types that are bigger!

Step 1. Set up the tubes

Step 2. Prepare a pump with adjustable valve connection to limit water intake (cannot faster then the siphone or it will overflow)

  • Step 3. Suck the tubes while at the bottom cover the tube so no water comes out of the tubes, fill the tubes with water all the way.

Step 4. Let go the bottom and let the water go it will activate the siphone

Step 5. switch on the pump to pump water from your sump back into the tank and control the valve so that the water back are NOT faster then the output by the siphone (Very Important! or prepare to have a wet floor)

  • Notice the pump tubes I drilled a hold this is to prevent water siphone backwards if the pump failed.

The whole setup is better because I don't need to pump water out of my tank or tankS (now i have 4) and need only ONE pump back to my tanks

Imagine you can have unlimited number of tanks and just one big pump all of them siphoning water out.

  • The question on if this can be use on a bigger tank is YES, you can use one tube but if you want bigger flow you can use Two tubes however there are other people uses bigger tubes hence faster siphoning compared to mine.

  • Remember to take extreme caution with electricity and I put all of the electrical extension wires into a plastic box with a cover cutting the cover letting the wires out.

This way if there is a "flood" you and your family won't get electrocuted. I'm not kidding here...you MAY get flooding if you did not do the valve right as some pumps are way stronger then the siphoning speed.

try and error and makes sure the water level stays constant by adjusting valves!

  • By the way, although some might think a sump is overkill for a tank this size, it seems to be a great idea for breeding shrimp & such difficult to catch creatures. You can raise them in a very small tank but with a huge amount of water and recirculation. Good idea.

  • Thank you!! :3 I had expanded to 4 tanks & my sump too to a single super huge sump :3

  • holy cow. shrimp explosion!

  • Hahha i got too many of them! :3

  • What size pipe did you use for this?

  • I'm not quite sure but there are only 2 sizes in the fish shop that sold me these pipes for aquarium tank, they don't inter-connect so buy the same size pipes.

  • I envy your tank!

  • wooot thanks!! :D it's a passion to keep these tiny creatures :D It's great to have but sometimes a hassle to maintain hehe but overall I had it easy for now.

  • holy crap thats alot of shrimps

  • yup it's overflowing of cherry shrimps! :D

  • great video man. good job and nice tank

  • Thank you :D :3

  • u are singaporean?

  • Yes I am :D

  • man nice i have now saltwater plz visted my video :)

  • Very Good Video ... Thank You

  • You are welcome! :D

  • nice.. how strong is your pump?

  • The pump can pump upwards 3 meters high which is quite cool I had just moved this tank to a rack with total of 4 shrimp tanks :D more video on that soon! :D

  • nice

  • hehe :D

  • Looks great! Good job.

  • hey thanks!! :D
