Vangelis said he was hearing an italian man singing and he loved that sound and decided improvise with the phonetics. It is neither wordpainting, nor pseudolatin, but just an invented language based on sounds. The transcription is in phonetic Italian. So, the people complete the song with the sensations in mind. For the majority, it's a romantic song. To others "una canzonetta"...it's a simple tribute to a language. Creativity. Improvisation.

This is a really beautiful tune. I don't know what the hell he's saying, but I don't think it really matters. A gentleman down the way mentioned some thing about " PHONETIC ITALIAN " I think Gregorian has a chant or more in phonetic Italian. That stuff is really cool and all, but Jon Anderson totally rocks this kinda shit cause his voice IS NOT PERFECT!!! BUT! it is . He pulls this stuff off like nobody's business.God is not done with him,surely his warming of our hearts is a grand adventure.

Jon Anderson - I remember he sang "Loved By The Sun" which is one of the scores in the "Legend" 1985 soundtrack done by Tangerine Dream and he didn't sound like this. Nice smooth flow nonetheless!!! Love Vangelis!!!

Very pretty, but...."So Long Ago, So Clear" this is not. SLASC was on "Heaven and Hell", and, in fact, closes out Side 1. It was positioned on the album right after the close of "Heaven", which the end of was used as the background theme music for Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" on public TV in the USA. SLASC is an amazingly beautiful Jon and Vangelis piece, Thank you for this video, also. Peace !:)
