The gear ratios in the wrx SUCK, I heard the same for the sti. I can cruise at 80mph in my neon at around 2500rpm in 5th. In the wrx it's around 3500rpm. I can't stand that.
After 100mph the wrx just bores me, The exciting part is 0-100.
I did manage a consistent 12.8 @ 109/110 at the track, I'm happy with that
Your talking crap about the WRX and referencing your neon as the godly platform?
First... 99.9% of anybody's driving is under 100mph.
Second... It is a WRX, not a race car, it is designed to have a lot of low end torque. This car is far more driveable than any neon and that is why people buy them, not for how fast they go after 100MPH....lol.
I wasn't talking crap or praising either car, Just stating that I don't care for the gear ratios at cruising speeds on a highway at 70-80mph on the wrx, I just used my neon as a reference because of the rpm I'm at @ 80. You're exactly correct that the wrx was built for low end torque. As for either car being more drivable that's an owners perference. I'd rather cruise down a highway at 2500rpm @ 80 in ANY car then 3500rpm in the wrx, and I'm sure alot of people would agree.
@BuRd32 Intake and exhaust mods will help with high RPM torque loss, but I was referring to the acceleration dead zone past 100 MPH. They are nasty of the line with 1st and 2nd gear but other cars with comparable power to weight seem to pull much harder later in the gears. I assume it is the less efficient AWD. Still a fun car and looks better than the EVO! A good tune after a few mods should free up some power fly past 100 in the 1/4 mile;)
I just bought a 2011 Sabaru WRX sedan premiun also last week and Ive already put 200 miles on it and I haven't taken it over 4,500 rpm since Its my first manual car and I had only driven manual twice be4. Isnt this to abusive? Ive been kinda babying the car and keep thinking if I try this the transmission will just fail. Why do u say we should rev it hight if in the manual it says to not go over 4k rpm for the first 1,000 miles it even says not to go over 60mph.
@raulgomez902 i have 8,000miles on mine, its up too u if u wanna take it high. many people found new cars will be quicker if u floor them in the first 100 miles, sets the valve seats deeper or somthing. thats why everybody "the car learns how u drive" plus its under warranty , its a new car pretty sure the tollerances are way higher than back in the day when u really needed to brake a car in. Just my 2 cents. Maybe im completly wrong and dumb
@BuRd32 You are correct, the modern machining uses super close tolerances and doesn't need near as much break in. It'll be fine, I have driven my crossfire like I stole it since it had 75 miles and It has never been in the shop for drive train problems at 45k miles! I did get a nasty speeding tick though;)
@BuRd32 I took off down an on ramp and hit 88 mph in a 60 half way down before slowing to merge. A cop saw me and took 3 miles to catch me;) I should have told him I was trying to go back in time;) LOL
you should just drive it how you normally would, I got my 2011 brand new as well and I saw that deal in the manual about not going over 4k rpm for the first 1000 miles. I mostly just varied my rpms and speed alot for that first 1000 miles. I now have close to 20,000 miles on mine. If you got the extended warrenty I wouldnt worry about babying it, it can handle whatever kind of driving you throw at it. Those boxer engines are tough. My other subuaru has 250,000+ miles on it.
@roastedtyres I did get the extended warranty but plan on taking it off and saving those $2500. Did u get the extended warranty as well? Do u think its worth the money? My extended warranty was only for 6 years or 60,000 miles.
08 wrx's are lemon cars. no point in trying to make them go fast. my friend put so much money into his and all it did was break. what kind of car needs a new tranny at 30k miles?
Here is my 08 wrx. It is far from stock and I dont have dyno numbers for my current set up. The car is capable of High 12's I am sure I will get it next time at the track. My best run was a 13.1. PERFECT launch then I freeking missed 4th gear, NO IDEA.1st time ever missing 4th. I have missed 2nd shifting in a corner but seriously 4th in a strait line. Any way I have all the info for each run with each video. One of them IS NOT ME you will know when you watch.
yes open source or protune. i put down 291 awhp and 359 awtq. that was tuned with e85 of course. I am also at 3,400 feet above seal level. At sea level with the rite supporting mods that turbo is capable of 350 awhp.
@BuRd32 E is safer to make power on than 91OCT, Thats the highest we can get here any way. You can safely run more boost and different timing. That is where all the extra torque comes from. At 900 ft you would not be disapointed. I stated earlier that eh torque fals off fast with that turbo. What I didnt say was that the HP curve once it is topped out stays almost flat to redline. Mine did any way. And as you know it spools way fast.
The VF22 runs out of air on top. Produces great torque then falls off pretty fast. Not near as bad as the TD04 on the 08 and before models. With areal Tune not a generic cob tune, that turbo is capable of amazing things.
SLOWWWWW
