I'm completely carried away by this incredible, genial music and texte(for which I'm lucky enough to have the book, printed in 1967...in French) Thank you so much for
posting it..Such a genius...Ravel...everything he wrote is beyond beautiful...How I'd
love to be able to see Daphnis and Chloe this way,too
This is a joy! My first was Hockney at the Met in 1980 as a kid. One of the most memorable musical events of my life!
I'm in search of a video of Balanchine's 1981 made-for-TV PBS "Dance in America" version from the New York City Ballet. I had/have a video of it somewhere but can't find it! It was co-produced by Balanchine with one of Jim Henson's co-Muppeteers, and it's magnificent. Someone out there must have an old VHS of it.......
This finale, leading to the reconciliation with "Maman" seems to me the part most enhanced by the balletic, visual aspect. Fantastic imagination& skill with costumes to match... One of the most moving & satisfying artistic experiences. Merci mille fois!
It's so great to see this! I'm gonna sing the squirrel, the little chair and the red cat in a opera-course next week, and i'm very happy that i've seen this, so thank you for posting!
One of my faovite operas. I have sung it several times and it is always a treat. I dig the ballet combo for fantasy piesces like this (we opera singers don't usually move so beautifully - heehee).
It's interesting, actually; I feel a little scandalized, yet not really since this would originally ahve been a ballet in the first place.
They used the Maazel recording, didn't they? Man, that's the best recording in French available. There's one with Kegel, but it's in German, so you know where that leads.
Yes, the Maazel recording, in all likelihood. What's the cause for scandal, by the way? Lorin Maazel's version is the best, breaks my heart everytime. Exhausts my tearducts. Pure genius, this.
Is this the final part???

I'm feeling scandalized because it's a good production, but why we never get these kinds of productions on the opera stage annoys me to no end.
